Founded in 1965, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History showcases the world's largest permanent exhibit on African American culture. My visits there are always educational and profoundly moving. The museum has an incredible perspective on the past and the present journey of African Americans. At the same time, it takes us on a comprehensive journey of the African American contribution to the world. Today, I will take us on that journey and paint a vivid image of Charles H. Wright Museum. The 22,000 square-foot exhibition space contains more than 20 galleries. This museum showcases over 30,000 artifacts. The exhibitions are set up as a time traveling experience that takes visitors across hundreds of years and across the globe. The journey begins in Africa, the cradle of human life and continues on to the slave trade, and the contribution to African culture. In the end, the journey discloses with remarkable triumphs in medicine, …show more content…
It was overwhelming and made me strikingly emotional. First, I walked into a dungeon where a slave was imprisoned. Afterward, I passed through a ship en route to the New World, where I actually stepped down into the "belly of the beast" on the slave ship. There were about a 100 or more life-sized replicas that are presented as slaves and how they were stored in chains. Several were showcased as dead; the accompanying sounds I could hear moaning, crying out, and different languages being spoken. As a result, I was left awfully impacted after feeling the sense of horror on how they were treated. Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is immensely knowledgeable on African American contribution to the World and American History. Spending at least an hour or two into the museum, the exhibits have guides to educate yourself. I recommend more people to experience the journey in person, so they too can be left very much
I visited the National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center in Wilberforce, OH and inside this museum there are four different exhibits. After walking around for a while I came across this exhibit that talks about the History of Wilberforce University. It was very interesting to hear about the area from back then until now. It was very different back then but as laws began to get passed it changed. The exhibit on the History of Wilberforce University explores the start of Wilberforce university, the making of Central State University, and the uprising of Wilberforce University.
Florida’s rich history often spotlights two distinctive groups; the plentiful Hispanic population, or the conventional Caucasian syndicate. What most people tend to overlook are the copious amounts of esteem found in Black History; a chronicle furnished on centuries of symbiotic suffering and triumph. Thousands of individuals have contributed to this amorphous embodiment, but there is one woman in particular that has succeeded in evolving our world’s views on art at
There is a period of time during the twentieth century that has been given an abundance of information: if one were to inquire about the World Wars, just about any person could give some sort of cohesive answer. However, if one were to ask about African Americans throughout the twentieth century comments would be rather scarce, and would probably center around the Civil Rights Movements in the South. This is only part of the narrative that African Americans experienced in the last century in the North. Unfortunately, these people often faced more struggles in terms of economic, social, and political equality- de facto segregation was more prominent. This narrative however, is often overlooked and the testimonies on paper only give so much information. Thus, oral history is needed
The Cleveland Art Museum is a prominent art gallery that is found Cleveland, Ohio. This museum from the states carries a large array of artwork (paintings, drawings, photographs, sketches, sculptures, etc). Though, these works of art do not focus primarily on one time period. This particular museum holds creations that stem all the way back to Ancient Egypt. From this particular art gallery (that can also be found online), a work of art from this gallery will be looked at. However, there will be a certain specification. The reason behind this specification is based around the book Tender Is The Night. Being one of Scott Fitzgerald’s outstanding books, this novel was set in the early 1930’s. Hence, I will be focusing on a painting made/done in the early 1930’s.

The Bowers Museum is a historical place where multicultural diversities are exhibited through the arts. The museum was founded in 1936 in our lovely city of Santa Ana. This museum is here today because of Charles and Ada Bowers who submitted the bequest to the city of Santa Ana. This museum is one of the largest museums in California and the go to place for Orange County Residents. It was closed down for a period of time and reopened in 1992 as a cultural center. Now they have expanded and added a Kidseum made just for kids. As you walk through the hallways your mind is taken to other parts of the world, as if through magic, we get to see through other cultures eyes. This was my first time stepping foot in a museum so I did not know what to
The Sun 'n Fun Air Museum is a Lakeland based museum dedicated to educating the public on the future of flight. My visit to the museum was an educating experience filled with enthusiasm. This experience taught me a lot about the history of aircraft, pilots, engines, so on. The air museum is not only filled with facts and information; it is filled with donated planes and replicas. Walking inside the museum was almost breathtaking, left and right there were airplanes, engines, models, and replicas. However, it wasn't all fun and games, the museum educated the public on the achievements and the progression of humanity.
The The National Museum of African American History and Culture opened on september 19, 2016. The museum has five floors. The first floor theme is slavery which included many exhibits such as a slave cabin, Emmett Till's casket, and a railcar from the segregation era are just a few of them. The second floor focuses on reconstruction and the third floor features segregation and beyond. The third floor shows exhibits such as women and movement which talks about how women helped in the civil rights movement and also displays exhibits on entertainment which included one on Oprah which had Oprah Winfrey’s couch. Therefore the African American history museum was a good way to learn about African American history.
It is appropriate to say that the conditions of Blacks in the past have improved since various Black power movements. The twenty first century generation of African Americans continues to be content with the accomplishments’ of our ancestors, instead of becoming more aware of our heritage and culture in order to understand the present. Renée Stout’s art develop from Black movements such as Garveyism and the Pan-Africanism movements that aimed to instill racial pride and racial unity. Just as these movements made Blacks around the Diaspora aware of the conditions of other Blacks, Stout’s exhibit, Tales of the Conjure Woman, unveil the oppressed culture of Africans and African Americans while instilling racial pride and unity.
In history there is a part that everyone wants to change and make it better. That is slavery and treatment that was given to the people. But it is history and can’t be changed, the positive is that African-Americans made great contributions to history, which many of them took place in the Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance name given to the cultural, social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem between the end of World War 1 and the middle of the 1930’s. When many of the men went to world war 1, a few African Americans from the south moved to New York. A specific white community called Harlem.
The initial purpose of the Coleman museum was to provide a welcoming setting to appreciate the art in it's cultural and historical benefits as well as it's successive generations of Fannel County visitors and citizens. By spanning both history and art combined, the Coleman museum offers a unique perspective on both ends. A person and/or visitors can truly appreciate the museum's collection of art and history, especially if they're open to a historical literate challenge.
Audiences, as they walk through the Civil Rights Movement exhibit, will walk alongside the activists of the movement. Through this room, observers will experience an intimate and raw perspective of the adversity and the push to persevere the Civil Rights Movement experienced in their fight against injustice. The goal of this room is to exemplify the immense historical importance this movement has, as well as seeks to create a full-bodied experience that allows observers to empathize and understand the plight and severe and persistent opposition members of the movement were faced against.
