Long before the star in the sky gave us warmth and the rock in the sky gave us it’s luminous presence, there were two people. The sun and the moon. Sun was a fierce warrior and proud to his merit. Moon was gentle, soft spoken and often vague with their words. These two polar beings lived in harmony with one another for centuries, that was until Moon felt the pang of hunger. Sun could sense disturbance in the air as Moon began to speak “I’m hungry”. Sun knew what was about to arise, these two words conjoined in sentence would be his undoing. Reluctant, knowing the outcome, he asked “What do you want to eat”. The three words in response would send a fluster of annoyance and agitation towards Sun, these three words would be “I don’t know”. On May 25, 1961 President John F. Kennedy paved the way for the world’s first lunar landing when he announced the US’s ambitious goal to place an American on the moon before the end of the decade. Planning for the Apollo Space Program began in 1957 and the program ended in 1972. The Apollo Space Missions increased our understanding of the moon. The goal of the missions was to land men on the moon and return them safely to earth. This goal was achieved with Apollo 11. On July 20, 1969 man walked on the moon for the first time. This was a huge step in space exploration and much preparation had gone into it. Apollo 8 orbited the moon, but did not test a lunar lander, and Apollo 9 tested a lunar lander while orbiting earth. After achieving the goal of getting man to the moon, the Apollo program continued to enlarge our understanding of the moon. Apollo missions 12 and 14 installed seismic stations on the moon’s surface. This led us to the discovery of “moonquakes”, which are essentially earthquakes on the moon’s surface.

The 1976 book, “We Never Went to the Moon”, by Bill Kaysing attracts a different type of audience in comparison to Sibrel. The title of this book has a more serious tone as it making a clear claim that “we”, the United States have never been to the moon. The audience of this text is targeted towards adults who have a deep understanding of science, specifically science related to space objects and their interactions, along with those are very curious about the moon landing. In the beginning of the book, the author specifically mentions that only thirty percent of adults believe that the landing was staged, meaning the author is trying to convince the rest of the adults in the country, who are the audience of the book. Also, the book contains historical context detailing how rockets originated to give the readers information of how space rockets started before diving into the moon landing speculation. Next, many pictures of the laboratories used to construct and test space rockets are shown so that reader understands the process it took to get there. The "Moon Hoax" has been around since 1835, when the New York Sun printed an article about this whole ordeal. The New York Sun used and credited Sir John Herschel, who was a British Astronomer. Herschel claimed that he had tried out a new type of telescope on the Cape of Good Hope in January of 1834. While in Cape Town, he said he'd set up an Observatory. Using this, he claimed to have observed what he thought of as the "Real" Moon. He claimed to have seen vegetation, bodies of water, and living creatures. He also said he had seen "Bat People" who were described as being furry winged men. This took the People at a shock, and the "Evidence" and science astounded them. So many began to believe this is true.
