The word honor means high respect or fulfill with great respect. I think the word means trustworthy or being able to trust somebody. Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 at The Mount, Shrewsbury, United Kingdom and died April 19, 1882, Down House, Down, United Kingdom. In that time span Charles had made many different accomplishments such as the Theory of Natural Selection, laying the foundation for evolutionary biology, and he did groundbreaking experiments on the evolution of plants.
In 1859, Charles Darwin set out his theory of evolution by natural selection as an explanation for adaptation and specialization. He defined natural selection as the “principle by which each slight variation, if useful at all, may be preserved” …show more content…

Also, it was believed that species were unchanging parts of a designed hierarchy; and that humans were unique and unrelated to other animals. However it was not until the 1930s and 1940s that full significance of Darwin’s work was realized. At the time of Darwin, the widespread belief was that species either existed from the beginning of the world or were created over the course of history and they were believed to remain the same throughout. Also it was believed that species were unchanging parts of a designed hierarchy; and that humans were unique and unrelated to other animals. Darwin’s work had the greatest impact on changing that belief and overcoming scientific rejection of earlier concepts of transmutation of species. However it was not until the 1930s and 1940s that the significance of Darwin’s work was realized. His theory of evolution has now become the unifying theory of the life …show more content…

The first in a series of books he wrote on the subject was Fertilization of Orchids, which was published in 1862. It demonstrated the power of natural selection by explaining how complex ecological relationships resulted in the co-evolution of orchids and insects. Though it was not a financial success, it established Darwin as a leading botanist. Other books by Darwin on the evolution of plants include The Effects of Cross and Self Fertilization in the Vegetable Kingdom. Published in 1876, it was the first to provide overwhelming experimental support in favor of the idea that inbreeding may have severe detrimental effects on progeny. Darwin wrote many books on this subject and proceeded to study this investigation in other species or
