Duck Quacker Qualities
Duck calls were invented to mimic the sound of a female duck and to lure flying birds to hunters’ decoys. They were developed by waterfowl hunters desiring to create the most efficient tool possible and were originally made of metal. After too many hunters’ lips froze to the metal call’s mouthpiece, inventors turned to wood and acrylic plastic. Duck calls mimic female ducks because they make the loud quacking noise people associate with their species. Childhood rhymes such as Old McDonald highlight this sound. The classic quack is made when ducks are hungry, separated from the flock, or courting. Female ducks usually make the sound in a series of two-ten quacks that begin loudly and get softer. Male ducks, on the other hand, do not create much of a sound at all. Instead, a male duck gives a quiet, rasping, short call. The louder, longer sound is the reason duck hunters want to mimic the female duck. Using duck calls to entice birds to land improves the odds of having a successful hunt. Although wooden and acrylic duck calls share many common characteristics, acrylic is a hunter’s best choice.
One similarity of both wood and acrylic duck calls is their design. The design consists of two parts: the barrel and the insert. The barrel is the large end of the duck call and is the mouthpiece. It is basically a tube that acts as the duck call sound generator and handle. Since it is the largest piece of the call, it is the end that is artistically designed.
One key way that cuckoos mimic other animals is by copying their physical appearance. Cuckoos’ striped bellies look quite similar to the feather patterns of the Eurasian sparrowhawk; a fierce bird of prey. Other
His mom thinks he got the first feather from a chicken hawk. Lane used turkey feathers as well. He always changed the feathers over the years when he would find one that was cool and unusual.
I have shown a variety of both livestock and general projects in my ten years as a 4-H member. My first livestock project was Mallard ducks and since then my waterfowl project has expanded. I showed my Mallard ducks for five years. Unfortunately a mink killed my entire flock. After I lost my flock, I was given a set of Giant African Dewlaps from a family friend which I named Linus and Lola. A few years later the same family friend offered to give me his pair of Giant Toulouse Dewlap geese. He was having difficulty finding someone to take care of them when he traveled and felt they could have a better home with me. I have shown these geese at the Illinois State Fair and have won Best Heavyweight Goose and Gander and Reserve Best Heavyweight

When you think of invasive species possibly common invasive animals like the goby or zebra mussel comes to mind, the last thing you would think of as aggressive, habitat destroying, and invasive is a large beautiful bird the mute swan. That was a long time ago before they started to overpopulate. Mute swans are very large birds and they raise many cygnets (baby swans) every year and the cygnet survival rate is very high that is just

These ducks symbolize Holden in that they are unable to stay where they are. Holden has been expelled from several prep schools. The ducks have to leave when the pond freezes over, and Holden has to leave when he gets himself into trouble.
In possible hopes of making himself feel better towards the idea of change, Holden would ask his cab drivers about the ducks in the pond. He would ask where the ducks go in the winter, do they stay? Or do they leave. In other words, Holden could be characterizing the ducks to a person, and to relate them to the concept of change. Within the text, Holden takes a cab ride and asks about where the ducks go for the winter. ""The fish, they don't go no place. They stay right where they are, the fish. Right in the goddamn lake." "The fish, that's different. The fish is different, I'm talking about the ducks." " what's the difference?"" (Salinger, 82) Holden's curiosity gets the best of him when he asks where the ducks really go. The ducks represent the concept of change. He asks his cab driver’s and other secondary character throughout his journey about the ducks and where they
