Sarah's Key, written by Tatiana de Rosnay, is a parallel account of two different characters. The first character is Sarah Starzynski, a ten-year-old Jewish girl who lived in Paris during World War II. The second character is Julia Jarmond, a 45-year-old American journalist currently living in Paris. Julia found that her life connected directly to Sarah's once she decided to move into an apartment in Paris. From examining the novel, Tatiana de Rosnay imposes a successful thesis that avows an account of a Jew during World War II and presents the effects it had on others during and lastingly after the war.

It is often considered that outward appearance will be the first thing notice when establishing a first impression of you, but some may beg to differ. When evaluating the impression someone has left on someone else, it is important to note the personality of said person and how they present themselves; what tone of voice they’ve used towards another individual. Sarah in the Heretic’s Daughter begins by presenting herself in a way which many people dislike and find to be rather annoying, but as the novel evolves, so does she. In the Heretic’s Daughter, Kathleen Kent establishes a sensitive, yet dramatic and opinionated character through characterization and tone in her vivid word choice to create the character of Sarah and allow you to see her evolve as the novel plays out.
The film I choose to watch for the chapter 16 essay was “The Last 203 Days of Sarah’s Life”. I previewed some of the films available from option A and then previewed Sarah’s film. Sarah’s film touched me at a personal level after I realized what the film was about. My maternal grandmother has reached the age of 101 years this October and although she is not sick like Sarah was I realize that my grandmother cannot have too many years left.

Iris Lich Essay Prompt: To what extent do prior ties from the time of Sarah or PrLacey affect the modern setting of the story? Prior ties from the book ‘Two Can Keep a Secret’ by Karen McManus influence the modern setting of the story greatly. Past occurrences are necessary with the context they give in relation to more recent events, and they also add more complex developments to characters we are familiar with in the current storyline. Without them, the story would also have a dull and disengaging conflict rather than a complete plot drawing both the characters and reader in.
The theme of the book is to be patient. Being patient has a lot to do with Sarah who is the only girl on the football team. It took a while for Sarah to get on the football team, but her impressive kicking skills really showed why she should be on the football team. Sarah is the type of girl who workouts everyday and wants Vanden High School to win the state championship. At first Sarah had to wait for a week to get on the team because she disguised herself as a boy, which wasn’t the smartest idea, but a way to show off her talents.
The Vel’ d’Hiv is a sensitive topic for many individuals. In the book Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay, the stories involved in the novel are associated with the Vel’ d’Hiv. The novel, Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse takes place in the Netherlands during the German occupation of the Holocaust. A young girl, Hanneke, who is involved in a black market operation is faced with an unusual and presumably impossible task; she had to find the young Jewish girl that mysteriously disappeared from hiding, while in her neighbor's house. Throughout the novel, Hanneke learns many valuable lessons, which can also be applied to the readers lives, making the novel meaningful in my opinion.
"On July 16 and 17, 1942, 13, 152 Jews were arrested in Paris and the suburbs, deported and assassinated at Auschwitz. In the Vélodrome d' Hiver that once stood on this spot, 1,129 men, 2,916 women, and 4,115 children were packed here in inhuman conditions by the government of the Vichy police, by order of the Nazi occupant. One morning, when I shook Sarah’s hand, she didn’t wake up. Her hand felt cold, so I pulled her yellow blanket up around her shoulders. I crawled back into my own bed and waited. Every few minutes I called, “Where’s Sarah?”, but she just kept on sleeping.
