The Other Wes Moore introduces the lives of two boys with similar traits that would one day have different outcomes in life. As one begins to read the novel the clarity of their situation becomes evident, it is to an extent appropriate to conclude that both Moore’s lives were similar during their childhood, but certainly it was their mentors that guided them to different paths. Although growing up near each other and both being residents of the Baltimore county their influences were shaped from early on. Although Wes Moore was born to a family with both professional and caring parents his friends from the outside influenced him to share the same mentality such as not caring about school or the popular belief that they follow “live in the present.” He was also facing a rough patch in his life because he was confused in what world he was living in, and it was a mixture of witnessing poverty and affluence. A confusion that made him upset and want to give up. His friends teased him about attending Riverdale High a rich school reserved for the affluent. Furthermore, the other Wes Moore was also living through the same moments although with a higher degree of influence from his “buddies” he began to hang out with his friend Woody and together they did unlawful acts. From selling drugs at a young age to already becoming a parent by the age of sixteen. But, what is really interesting about all this is that they were both influenced by bad people and were both living in bad environments, it was not so much their decisions that effected their fates, but it was the mentality they cultivated throughout the years from their surroundings that made them think that everything they did was
