McKenna Lang (3d hour) Prompt One Randy Pausch. Who is he? What does he stand for? The day he gave the last lecture... His last lecture he only had months to live. He packed a lot of lessons into his lecture. The claims he gave that stood out were to be optimistic, to be determined, and to take risks. Being optimistic was important to Randy. He could live his few last months depressed and stuck in self pity or he could be optimistic and make the best of the time he had left. Even after he was diagnosed he still was optimistic. Even on the first page Randy states that he was optimistic for his survival. One morning long after he found out he had cancer he stated "I was still fully engaged. I still knew life was good. I was doing OK." He staed this in response to a friend emailing him about seeing him driving. At first she didn't know who it was and just observed that that man- Randy and that he was appreciating the day and was in high spirits. Randy knew that his cancer diagnosis was grim and yet was content with life. (Pg 65) This shows that Randy, even when he is overwhelmed with negatives can find a positive. Randy states throughout the book the value of being optimistic. Being happy in sad times won't always make it …show more content…
Randy never seems to quit. Whether it's on a childhood dream or not giving up hope Randy always seems to be determined to complete whatever task he has taken on. An example of this is Randy wanting to get into Briwn University. He kept calling the administrations office until they saw how much he wanted to get in and he was accepted (pg. 171). Randy had this goal as he has reached others throughout the book (being in zero gravity, becoming an imagineer) A quote that Randy once said was that "Brick walls are there for a reason. And once you get over them-even if someone has practically had to throw you over-it can be helpful to others to tell them how you did it." (Pg.

We all change whether good or bad. It is in us to make decisions that shape the way we act towards everyday occurrences. In this cases Chris Theodorakis changed immensely. Chris went from a unconfident recluse to an outgoing professor. This just shows how fast you can change to become a better person for yourself.
Daniel from Daniel's story won’t give up because he is hopeful, strong, and most of all a risk-taker. Daniel needs these traits to survive his terrible journey that keeps getting worse. The first reason that he won’t give up is because he is hopeful. One example of him being hopeful was when he couldn’t go to public pools or restarunts he remanied strong and hoped it that it would end.

But, Randy Pausch, who has 10 tumors in his liver, does not want people to pity him for having cancer. Rather, he wants to teach people how to follow their childhood dreams. Looking at the seven elements of communication we see how he is so effective in his last lecture.
Many people seem to think that successful people possess extraordinary qualities that set them apart from the rest. It is little known that their “[…] success is not exceptional or mysterious. It is grounded in a web of advantages and inheritances, some deserved, some not, some earned, some just plain lucky-but all critical to making them who they are. The outlier, in the end, is not an outlier at all" (285) just normal human beings who are given extra tools to work with. These tools are the components to success. Three of these components are putting in ten thousand hours of practice, having negotiation and communication skills, and being in the right place at the right time. With these components, an extraordinary person is born out of an
Have you been ever asked the question if you were stranded on a island what or who would you bring? What did you say? I have been asked the question, and I would bring Les Stroud from the show survivorman with me. There are many reasons he would be a amazing person to be stranded with. These include that he's a survival expert, knows first aid, and he would be able to keep me company. Les is someone that would actually know how to survive unlike me. He is someone who knows what needs to be done when trying to survive.

In Kevin Hart’s stand-up comedy show titled “Let Me Explain – Witness the Rise of A Legend,” Kevin Hart goes on a comedic rant about the changes he went thru doing his marriage and before, during and after his divorce that led him to become the person he is today. One comedy bit that stood out to me the most was entitled “Help Me Nigga.” Kevin begins this bit by stating that cheating was the reason why his marriage failed, but immediately after stating this turns around and states that is was actually “lying about cheating” that was the reason why his marriage didn’t last. He proceeds to give examples of the many times that he lied about when he was cheating – even bringing his best friend into the web of lies and somehow always getting

Memory, symbol, and pattern are tools that professors use to analyze literature and draw connections—furthering their understanding of what they are reading. An awareness of patterns makes it easier to read more complicated literature because books fall into similar patterns and become more recognizable and easier to breakdown. If the reader determines the patterns, routines, and archetypes at work in the background of the story, then the complicated plot becomes a little simpler to understand. A great example of this is the play Into the Woods. Into the Woods is a crazy mismatch of multiple fairy tales—the first half of the play is all of the positive aspects of these fairy tales, and the second half of the play is doomsday
The term of events of the movie August Osage County blew me away. Personally, I think Meryl Streep is a brilliant actress and the way she takes on a character amazes me. Seeing this film for the first time in class just reminded me of how great she is on the big screen. Not only was this movie dark and twisted but so was her family. She played a sick mother suffering from Oral Cancer and a heavy drug addiction, Violet Weston.

Although I am only a “Freshy” at the high school I walk around like I own the high school. Through all of junior high years I was always a kid to look up to, I am that kid that is athletic, but is still friends with some band geeks. I have intriguing style and exceptional foot apparel, whenever I’m in the hallways, I always see eyes looking down at my feet. Transitioning over to a classroom setting, I am a hard worker, once I get shouted at a couple times, but mostly I’m a neat character. I ask a plethora of questions, I’m always so confused in class that's the reason I ask, and just out of common courtesy, I’m asking questions to test your sharpness on knowing your instructions. I firmly believe that comedic teachers are amazing,
