McKenna Lang (3d hour) Prompt One Randy Pausch. Who is he? What does he stand for? The day he gave the last lecture... His last lecture he only had months to live. He packed a lot of lessons into his lecture. The claims he gave that stood out were to be optimistic, to be determined, and to take risks. Being optimistic was important to Randy. He could live his few last months depressed and stuck in self pity or he could be optimistic and make the best of the time he had left. Even after he was diagnosed he still was optimistic. Even on the first page Randy states that he was optimistic for his survival. One morning long after he found out he had cancer he stated "I was still fully engaged. I still knew life was good. I was doing OK." He staed this in response to a friend emailing him about seeing him driving. At first she didn't know who it was and just observed that that man- Randy and that he was appreciating the day and was in high spirits. Randy knew that his cancer diagnosis was grim and yet was content with life. (Pg 65) This shows that Randy, even when he is overwhelmed with negatives can find a positive. Randy never seems to quit. Whether it's on a childhood dream or not giving up hope Randy always seems to be determined to complete whatever task he has taken on. An example of this is Randy wanting to get into Briwn University. He kept calling the administrations office until they saw how much he wanted to get in and he was accepted (pg. 171). Randy had this goal as he has reached others throughout the book (being in zero gravity, becoming an imagineer) A quote that Randy once said was that "Brick walls are there for a reason.
