Matt, the main character of the book, The House of the Scorpion, goes through his life being criticized and tormented because of one thing that sets him apart from most people. He is a clone, but not just any clone, all the other clones minds were wiped and destroyed and they were called eejits and they only do things on command. Matt is the clone of a very rich man named El Patron. El patron wanted Matt to have a normal life as a boy but Matt found out why El Patron really did this for him. All of this happens at a big house in a country called Opium. El Patron dies because Matt does not and can not have a heart transplant with El Patron. Matt is then appointed death because they have no use for him. A bodyguard/ assassin/ terrorist lets him go and Matt wants to find his best friend and love, Maria, and her mother. His journey doesn’t go as planned but he finally gets there and meets Maria and her mother. When they go back Matt finds out that at El Patron's funeral El Patron had poisoned the wine and everyone except for three people lived. Matt is probably one of the most toughest characters I have read about. He is tough throughout his whole life, as a little kid, and a pre-teen, and as a full grown teenager. He is first put into a small little room as a child. The were very mean to him and they talked very poorly to him too. Sometimes they even forgot to give him food for the day.
