The Addams Family Musical was performed by the Brickstreet players at the Wills Point High school. They performed on November 11, 2017, at 2:00 pm. The major conflict of this production was that Wednesday Addams wanted to marry a normal boy named Lucas. Neither set of parents were happy that their children wanted to get married.
The dominant tone of the play was cosmic. There were many ongoing jokes throughout the play, for example, the character Lurch who is an undead butler is always two paces behind everything such as when Gomez said a joke, and everyone laughs it took until everyone stopped laughing for Lurch to start. Another example would be the grandmother, even though she was not on stage for very long when she was hilarious.

All the actors were required to sing and for being a high school production they did really well. The director did an excellent job casting the group of actors. The performance space was in a cafetorium and the stage was on the smaller side. The back of the stage was set up as if it was an old abandon graveyard, with dead trees, old crumbly headstones, and a large black entry gate. Then when it was time for the scene set in and out of the house they had movable walls, and door set on wheels. This gave the illusion that we were now indoors or outside of the house depending on the scene. When we were inside they had furniture such as tables, chairs, and a couch. When we were outside they had trees, bushes, and dead plants. The lighting of the play was on the darker side to help create the Addams Family come to life. The loss of the scenery would have completely destroy the whole story. The costumes fit the personality of each character perfectly. For example, Gomez Addams costume was just like the one we are all use to. He wore a black and white pin striped suite, with slicked back black hair and his signature black mustache. Another example is Uncle Fester he wear a black moomoo looking gown with a bold hear and a sickly appearance. Next would be the Addams dead relatives, they were all dressed in white from head to toe. They all had dark dead eyes and sickly sunken in cheeks. The makeup and costumes helped set the
The technical aspects of the production such as scenery, properties and costumes also played a keynote in the productions success. The scenery was fabulous it truly made the play. It was very realistic and extremely vibrant. Almost the entire play was performed in one setting, except for the railcar and dance scenes. The house, the main setting, was magnificent with painstakingly placed detail in every corner. All elements in the house matched wonderfully, for example the furniture, the photos on the wall, the telephone and even the trash can. Little bits of detail were everywhere adding to the beautification of the set, for example the lace decorations on the chairs, the etched glass above the front door and even the Christmas tree.
My favorite accessory was the hats with the big feathers on them. I felt that it gave the audience a better feel of the time period. I also loved the tight dresses that the woman wore with the puffy bottoms. The woman also wore the big earrings, had the long tight curled hair, vibrant makeup, and elegant dresses. The men had the long curly hair and the facial hair. The men wore capes and had swords that they carried everywhere. Along with the pointy toed shoes.
The first thing my eyes were drawn to was the show poster because of it’s scientific look. It led me to believe that the play’s focus was on science and theories. The designs used also led me to believe that you needed to know about science to watch the play and the title on the poster seemed to me like it was handwritten which made me think that this play was going to be a play that had elements of a lecture and that one of the characters would be a teacher. Going into the house and sitting down the thing that stood out to me was the set. It looked very spacy and galactic which gave me a feeling of excitement and curiosity. I believe that the set played a huge role as far

Although it is known for being over dramatic and corny it has become very popular and is still has a spot on T.V shows in the 21st century. The Characters of this show dressed in a very different way the fashion in the 70’s
A character’s costume is much more than the clothes they wear to play a part. These clothes help us venture into the author’s world and help us connect with this new place and believe in its reality. They help us capture so much more than what the character looks like. We are able to see, feel, and experience the characters personality and purpose in the story. In a play or movie, we immediately make our fist connection with a character based on what they are wearing, this is the first step in drawing us in and making us believe in this new world. This first impression gives us the first glimpse at the characters style, background, and social class. All of these things are meant to immediately draw us in.
In the month of September, I watched Emory 's production The Boys From Syracuse. The show itself displayed an array of characters with distinctive characteristics and acting. I think the actors exhibited vocal power, variety, and range through the course of the story by altering their voice to express pride, uncertainty, and raucousness among other moods. The singers, in particular, were good at displaying power through their voice and were expressive in their singing. One character that had excellent vocal control and ability was Minka Wiltz who played Luce. Throughout the play, she displayed good control over her expressiveness with her voice and had a wide range of tone from very low and deep to high pitched exclamations. I think that the vocal choices supported the script and the characters ' actions pretty well. I was able to understand what was going on and the emotions the characters were going through.

Now, I am not a great actor and I can’t sing beautifully to save my life, but I did anyway. I love it so much it doesn’t matter whether I can do it or not. I met many people during that production and we all shared the same passion of theatre and music.
Sounds like the fireworks going off in the basement helped the audience get immersed into the show. The lights were usually had the whole stage illuminated and was kind of boring, but the way that they brought the lights on when a character would flip to turn the lights would add realism to the show. Props were used throughout the show and were well placed. In fact, I saw a radio that looked exactly the one that was in the show Annie performed by the Palm Springs High School Theatre which makes sense since they both take place during the same time period. The set looked very realistic and included nothing that was created in modern times like iphones or printers. Costumes were chosen very well in my opinion with my favorites being the police ones. Also, none of the clothing looked very modern. After taking a deeper look into the things that occurred to improve the show and how the actors looked, I think that the Palm Canyon Theatre improved the show and made the audience feel more
“We’re all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that’s all.” This is a quote from one of the main characters from this film. This film is an older one and came out in the year, 1985. It centers around five high school students who spend their Saturday in detention. Each of the five students signifies a stereo type, that are displayed in schools. The characters are John who is known as the criminal, Claire as the princess, Andrew known as the athlete or jock, Brian as the brain/nerd, and lastly, Allison is known as the basket case. We are also introduced to Richard Vernon the school principal and Carl the janitor. It helps us to remember that no matter how I may observe a student to be, there could be a very good chance, there will be some darker parts that are just waiting to be shared with others, they could be just waiting for someone to ask.
However, with the amount of absurdity going on stage, anything happening could be passed off as part of the production. The final scene was done 75 years later, and at this point, the play had evolved into a musical with all the initial characters acting as the Simpsons. All I hoped for was that this musical could be the saving grace of the terrible play, but to my dismay, with horrible musical numbers coupled with a nonsensical plot, the play just went
The costumes resembled a traditional idea of Death of a Salesman costumes, but with a twist. Willy wore a white collared shirt but the upper sleeves were ripped off, so when he was wearing his blazer during the flashbacks you could not see the missing sleeves. Linda wore a outfits resembling a maid or a housewife. Both Linda and Willy wore masks when they acted in present time to create a separation from the audience and the appearance of old age. Biff is the only character who wears shoes, does not wear a mask, and is not completely represented by an object.
The lighting of any production is the most important part in my thought. the lighting puts you in the mood that you have to be in, in order to fully understand that part of the show and to actually live it like they do. For example, when they were in the park and it was raining, they had their umbrellas, and the background effects of rain made it really seem as if it was raining in the theatre. The lighting was always focused on every part of the stage, especially on those who were the main parts in that scene.
I thought the play was fantastic! The genre of the play is children literature and this play in particular the actors were all kids, none older than 17 years old, preformed in the show. The kids were the ones who were doing everything in the play from moving the set, lighting, and wardrobe changes all by themselves.
The actors and actresses did well in their assigned rolls and I wish I could congratulate them on finishing the run. They worked together very well in all of the group musical numbers regardless of how hard they can be to coordinate at times. If I had to rate this performance of the musical it would get a 9/10. The acting, singing, costumes and costume changes, scenery and of course, the plot, are all wonderful and this is a must see. The only thing lacking was the cues and lighting, the use of the gobos was lacking and there was not as much color change as I would have enjoyed
