What has changed after the death of Narciso? Do we feel the novel building to a climax at this point?
After the death of Narciso, Antonio starts to questions a lot of things for example why wasn’t Tenorio being punished but Narciso was.
We can see the climax building up after Narciso’s death starting with the death one of Tenorio’s daughters then he lost one eye by Ultima’s owl then Narciso’s death and to top it off another daughter starts dying so that why we can see the story building to the climax.
4 Where does the end of the novel leave Antonio? What has he learned? How has he grown older and wiser through the course of the events?
At the end of the novel, Antonio loses his innocence and start to transition from a kid to a young man.
He learned between good and evil, witnessing multiple deaths, learned that life can sometimes be unfair, the dangers of life and the tragedy of life.
Antonio has grown wise after spending a lot of time with different people also learning about some of the mysteries of life that sometimes they can’t be answered not even by God and now that he has lost his innocence he now start his transition from a kid to a young
A curandero is a Mexican-American folk healer that heals physical, mental, and spiritual illnesses. The folk healer uses prayer, faith, and herbal remedies to heal. People associate repeated healing with healthy relationships between people, culture, and the environment. Mora and Anaya portray the curandera in different and similar ways. The literary works consist of common characteristics and qualities that the curanderos possess irrespective of the different genders. In both poems, the curanderos are knowledgeable. Besides, they have a close connection with nature, and the people from their towns respect them greatly.
As a consequence of the brawl between Tybalt and Mercutio, Mercutio ends up dead which then develops the theme because of the pain Romeo feels after hearing about his friend’s death.
To start off, Antonio is always under pressure from certain people that want him to do specific things in hopes of him securing the future of his people. This ties into conflicting cultures, which plays an important role when it comes to Antonio’s early life since his actions are defined by the conflicts between the Luna and the Marez. The Luna are the devoted farmers who worship the earth and the moon, while the Marez are very free-spirited vaqueros who are extremely devoted to their lifestyle and horses. Being a Marez is what causes Antonio’s three older brothers to go into the world and leave there family behind. “It was true, I thought, it is the Marez blood in us that touches us with this urge to wonder. Like the restless, seeking sea” (40). His brothers chose a path that Antonio is struggling to pick and cannot seem to identify with. This is a big deal because Antonio is only in the first grade and he is being pressured into growing up faster than he should be.
In this book some of the examples of conflict Antonio faces include his innocence versus the people in his life, Antonio’s reality versus the dreams he has, and his faith, whether it be to the Golden Carp, God, or the magic of Ultima. In this novel, one conflict is Antonio’s innocence versus some people that have affected his life in major ways. For example, Antonio’s mother wants him to be a priest, however he feels he cannot because he has seen so many bad things in his life, for example someone being murdered, his brothers beating him up and making fun of him, them going to “whore houses” and being very inconsiderate towards him. Antonio also had to witness many deaths, like the death of Lupito, Narciso, Florence, and Ultima and her owl, which all made him feel less innocent and not worthy.
My reflections on the orginization of the novel ended with me loving how the book came together. Alex started off as a normal teenager that does normal teenage activities , but then in a blink of a eye his
In the novel a pathetic situation was created when Tenorio kills Ultima’s spiritual owl. Actual life was created when Antonio was stuck in a dilemma to choose what path he was going to take when he grew up.
As people, we understand the world through our own perspective. When people do not quite understand, or do not want to, they often misunderstand situations and other people. Humans tend to label each other as one thing when they can be something else completely. In Bless Me, Ultima, by Rudolfo Anaya, Narciso is misunderstood as just a town drunk when he really is a hero.
This was quite an interesting story. There were three sections to the story which broke the story in three different times in one day. The characters were all very nonchalant except for the priest who showed some emotion when he found out that old Teofilo died. The story kept our interest, however, it did not lead a very clear trail to the end, and there was no real climax where we felt there was a good peak. The story needs to be read more than once to really be appreciated.
The ending of a novel can be evaluated by the reader in several different ways, however to properly analyze the work is to further explore the logic of how everything has come to be. The ability of the author to show the reader that the ending is reasonable from the preceding action and the character’s nature is what should truly be examined. Not only is the ending of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz both happy and unhappy, it is logical in the sense that it follows logically from the climax of the novel all while the character’s have been constant throughout, except Oscar. Oscar, the protagonist experiences a life-changing transformation that leads to his untimely death. However, the ending is convincing because of this
Parental pressure and religious ambivalence play a big role in Antonios life. In this dream we can easily see both of these themes. The divided world of his mother and father, and Catholicism and the religion of the Golden
CHAPTER 1: Main characters have a race, Maria hurts her leg. Barbara forced to complete a forfeit, Michele does it instead. Michele completes forfeit. Most of the main characters are talked about. Papa brings them a present of a model Gondola; Acqua Traverse is revealed.
I thought that in the end Philip would realize what a big mistake he made and then help Miss Narwin get her name cleared. The way the book ended did not satisfy me because I wanted a happy ending for Miss Narwin. I was amused when Philip started crying because he didn’t know the words to the national anthem. Although I do feel bad for him, I feel like he deserved what happened to him. He chose not to do extra work so he could pass a class. Instead, he chose to make a big deal about it, ruining a good teacher’s career. Also, he had to give up his dream of being on a track team and he had to switch schools. I think that if his parents hadn’t listened to everything he had said, and talked to the teacher, they would not have pushed him to talk to Ted Griffin. At first when I finished the book, the ending ruined the book for me. Later, I realized that any other ending would not probably show the moral of the story, which is if you spread lies instead of taking responsibility, you hurt yourself and all the people involved. The ending was realistic, because even though Miss Narwin didn’t do anything wrong and the school knew it, everyone else wouldn’t know the truth and they wouldn’t have listened to the school. So, they had to fire her. It also made sense that Philip would switch schools, because from the beginning of the book, Philip avoids his problems rather than facing them, and he didn’t want to face everyone’s hatred at
According to the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting system, in 2011 there were 104, 236 children waiting to be adopted in the United States (p. 4). Adoption is the legal process an individual or family goes through to gain legal custody of a child in foster care. This child’s parents have lost custody of their child because they have been deemed unfit to raise the child, either because of neglect or abuse. After the child is removed from the horrible situation, he or she is taken by child services and placed in a foster home or with a family member. This system is in place to protect children from further abuse, neglect and trauma. Today, children in foster care are in the system for a very short period of time; there is a
Acne can be a huge confidence-buster amongst people of all ages. Both fresh breakouts and scars from previous acne flares can make a person feel conscious about their appearance. While topical treatments, medicines and ointments can greatly reduce the number of fresh breakouts, one needs to deal with the scars left behind by acne as well.
Individuals with mental health illness often experience direct or indirect stigma from their community, friends and family members. Upon the completion of a community assessment of the 90804 zip code, one of the social problems revealed was the stigma towards individuals who have a mental health disorder. This information was provided by two local mental health service providers and both interviewees paralleled in their responses as they indicated that the local community is generally unfamiliar of the needs of people who are diagnosed with a mental disorder. Both added that community members directly mistreat them by often ignoring in the community; treating them uncaringly. During these interviews, it was learned that individuals who perceive mental health stigma (MHS) resist beneficial treatment to address their symptoms.
