1. In the Mystical Body of Christ, we are united intimately with Christ, the Head. Paul was aware of the radical change in his life. Under the aspect of the law, he was the controlling factor of his life, but after encountering Christ he gave that up for Christ and became dependent on him. Christ has replaced that self of Paul. By the same token, when we are alive with Christ, which means we cooperate with God's grace, we become members of Christ's Body, and are intimately united with him. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, “In that body the life of Christ is communicated to those who believe, and who, through the sacraments, are united in a hidden and real way to Christ in his Passion and glorification.” The sacraments instituted by Christ, therefore, will serve to bring members …show more content…

When the Church communicates with Christ, I do as well, because I am also a member of that body. As the guiding and protecting principle of the body, Christ leads and protects the Church on earth. Saint Dionysius suggested that analogously Christ is the head of the Church just as her “royal citadel”. All the members over whom it is placed for their good are naturally guided by the head as being endowed with superior powers. Christ, as Mystici Corporis reflects, “holds the helm of the universal Christian community and directs its course.” All the members of his Church therefore are called to move together with his guidance and by his strength. Furthermore, as Mystici Corporis goes on reflecting, “Christ also provides for our growth. He makes us grow towards Him because He is our head. He provides gifts and assistance to His Body, His Church, so we help one another along the way to salvation.” It is through Him that the supernatural gifts have their fullness and perfection and it is of
