The Progressive era was a movement that expanded economic and political freedoms for many. In
1911, a fire broke out at the Triangle Shirtwaist Company, it revealed how the abuse on both men and women from industry needed to be corrected to improve the lives of american workers. Progressive social reform gave citizens more power and influence on political process. During this era the Seventh Amendment was introduced, which let U.S senators be chosen by popular vote rather than by state legislators. The largest expansion of democracy was allowing women to vote.
The Progressive era had changes which resulted in the expansion of individual freedom; however, throughout Roosevelt's presidency federal regulations of the economy was pushed forward.
