Concert Report
On Monday April 10, 2017 I had the unique experience of attending the Chamber Music Concert. I found out about the event through the moodle page and it seemed like a good fit for my first classical music concert. The venue for the concert was Bezanson Recital Hall where the concert promptly started at 7:30 P.M. It was a free event and so therefore the seating was first come first serve or general admission. As I arrived at the concert, light illuminated from the center stage where the first musicians eagerly awaited to perform. As I looked around I witnessed many people in the auditorium which seated about 200 people. The crowd ranged from middle-aged men and women to students supporting the arts and their friends. As everyone

It was originally composed by Ludwig Van Beethoven that went by the name of Trio Op.11. There were three artists that the piece consisted of with Alex Wang playing the clarinet, David Look why playing the Cello, and Jane Hua playing the piano. Just like the first piece there was no director and the musicians were left on their own. This was the piece that I found myself enjoying the most of the three. The variation of the three instruments made it the toughest to follow but I kept me very intrigued. They provided some interesting sound and were playing at an upbeat pace and happy mood that I am accustomed to enjoying in music. The short quick notes kept the attention of the audience but the duple meter made sure the music was going at smooth pace. Variation in the music was probably my personal favorite and it got my attention along with ensuring that it was kept. For this reason I really appreciated the switch when the clarinet played the cellos solo back after it was finished. The piece continued to go on but went on to end smoothly with a slow …show more content…
As I mentioned, I had never been to a classical music concert before and for this reason did not know what to expect. I have not listened to much classical music in the past and was honestly slightly skeptical about how thing would go. Typically the concerts I attend are very loud and with a lot of crowd noise as they are more mainstream. This classical concert contained very interesting works of music and was different in that the audience was silent as the musicians performed. Everyone seemed to be more intrigued to simply listen and hear the works of art that these musicians were putting on display. I found the event to be very relaxing and interesting with some of the background knowledge I have acquired throughout the semester. I was able to grasp and take in the experience more due to the knowledge I have progressively gained about music throughout the semester. It allowed me to listen in a different way and focus on certain things rather than just the overall sound. All in all, this was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to take in and appreciate the art of classical music along with the skills these musicians
I thoroughly enjoyed this concert recital overall. It was awesome to be part of the orchestra's last concert of the year. This was the last, ever concert for the senior members of the orchestra, at KSU. It was special to be part of that. I would definitely attend another if given the chance. I am thankful for the wonderful opportunity to attend this musical performance and I am looking forward to the next orchestra concert I
Following the few words was the Cello Concerto of Sir Edward Edgar. Structured with four movements rather then three opens with slow and poignant music. It reminded me of the music that you hear when someone is mourning from loosing someone. It had its ups and downs in-between and the third was like energy broken down with mourning while going into the forth was the longest and most overly dramatic, it brought the audience to its feet. The performance was soothing and relaxing and amazing to see that each one of those people on that grand stage added something to make the piece special. With that being one of the first symphony performances I
On Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at eight o’clock in the evening in Longmire Recital Hall, The Florida State University presented the Faculty/Guest Artist Recital which included David Kalhous and Jihye Chang both pianists, the two collectively performed 20 pieces during the concert. I have never been to a recital of this sort, I assumed the venue would be large and there would be people singing and playing different instruments. The venue was actually small and there was only a piano. I was surprised that the crowd was so small being that the concert was at Florida State University, I assumed there would be a great number of people. The Longmire Recital Hall was small and the seating was arranged like movie theater seating. The lighting was very low; there was only enough lighting to see the pianist. Since this was my first time attending a recital of this sort I was confused as to why the pianist had to bow before each piece, or how long the audience applauded after each performance. Performers for this event were David Kalhous and Jihye Chang. David is a brilliant pianist, who is now gaining recognition in Europe and the United Stated for his elegant musicianship. Jihye Chang is also a pianist, who serves as an adjunct professor of music theory at Florida State University.
The concert was performed on the Southam Hall stage at the NAC; this is a large hall with extremely good acoustics. It is a nationally known stage, so the quality of the hall is very good. Generally, the audience was very receptive as it was composed of adults, who were all silent. The acoustics were very good as the hall spread the sound throughout the hall without making it echo. This had a positive effect on the performance, because it was possible for the orchestra to be clearly heard from any point in the entire hall. I was impressed by the large number of students that I saw that night because the show deserved to have been heard by many young people.
On December 3rd, there was a chamber music recital at Juilliard School in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts at the Morse Hal. The Juilliard School is one of the world's premiere performing arts conservatories located in New York. It trains in the fields of Dance, Drama and Music. Its an extremely competitive school and very difficult to get into. Walking into the Julliard School also had a unique feeling, seeing how students were dressed very formal and also didn’t feel like a school environment. My experience was good overall. My expectations were that there would be a small audience, time would pass by very slowly, also that I wouldn’t really enjoy it. Instead time passed by fast, very relaxing, the room was full and I enjoyed the experience.
The concert was very good overall. I am not interested in the classical music concert, but this concert made me thing different towards the classical concerts. Also I learned about the instrument called organ, very interesting instrument. I strongly recommend going to the organ concert. Especially if Dr. Carol Williams and Martha Jane Weaver are starring, you should definitely attend. No regret
The students and professors exhibited fantastic talent, while it was equally great to have Joan Tower present to introduce her pieces. Incidentally, I am very excited to brag to my friends and parents that I was in the company of a grammy award winning composer. Lastly, although this was my final concert report, I do not plan to halt my classical music experiences. The music is extremely soothing and a great alternative to the widely distributed hip-hop and rap music of our generation. With that being said, in the future I hope to attend and listen to many more classical concerts
On March 15, I decided to attend faculty recital at the Walker Recital Hall (WRH) which stared pianist Dr. Nathan Hess. The WRH filled up pretty quickly and almost every single seat got taken. The audience represented people from different walks of life, starting from the very young and leading up to relatively old.
Overall, I really enjoyed the entire concert. I recognized many things that we discussed in class as well as the assigned text book. Some things that were related to class discussions were the various changes in lighting, use of motif, and in the importance of how costumes can reveal style, set location, and establish
My first concert experience turned out to be very different from what I expected. Even though I would not choose to listen to classical music normally, the concert has made me enjoy this type of music more and made me think about how much more there is to music than just lyrics and a
The second concert I attended was the Shepherd school of music collegium concert at Rice University. The program featured music from the renaissance and was a little bit different then the orchestra concert I attended. For one there were fewer musicians. It had a more intimate setting, not a big theater but rather a small rehearsal hall. The musicians exchanged in and out after there part of the performance was over and there was some singing as well.
On Sunday, May10 2015, a concert was held in The Broad Stage. The concert was played by Santa Monica College Symphony Orchestra, whose conductor is Dr. James Martin. For this concert, I would identify myself as a referential listener at this concert. I say this because I am not an expert in music, therefore it would be hard for me to be a critical listener. I wouldn’t be able to tell what went wrong with a performance even if some incorrect notes were played. I was more of a referential listener because the music was soothing and brought my mind to peaceful thoughts. This essay will tells my experience of the concert in order to persuade my friend to attend a classical music concert with you in the future.
The third piece was “Duo for Violin and Cello” by Kodaly and performed by Bing Wang on the violin and Ben Hong on the cello. The fourth composition was “Three Madrigals” by Martinu and performed by Dana Lawson on the viola and Johnny Lee on the Violin. The final piece was “Sonata for Violin
For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the concert was particularly awe-inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that much of the audience consisted of friends of the composers and/or performers. I went with three friends, who I convinced by telling it would be interesting to see
On Thursday night, October 27th 2016, at 7:55 PM I was outside The Verizon Hall, The Philadelphia Orchestra, waiting for Symphony No. 1 by Brahms concert. On that day, I was kind of scared and worried about what to do and what to wear; as this is the first time I attend such concert. What made me more nervous that night, that I was alone; as almost all my classmates went to the free college concert, which was a month earlier than mine, on Wednesday night, September 21st. On that night, it started to rain with those cold wafts between time to time, so it kind of got along with the mood of the concert and made me feel like I am attending a concert in Paris or Rome and forced to attend the concert until the end. Even the vibes of the concert;
