There are many challenges that supervisors face but over the years I have learned that the most import challenges are the employees and their personal feelings. Many employees have a problem balancing home and work because of the current impact of societal and demographic trends. Employees have a tendency to come to work with attitudes and take it out on the other employees. As the Program Manager at MCIA, the first thing I had to do was to be able to deal with the different personalities on a day to day basis because no matter what, as the supervisor you are always in the middle of any incident. Whether it is the perfect employee or the troubled employee your responsibility is to keep things moving on the job. Other challenges that a supervisor face are ensuring that your employees understand your expectations, establishing a positive relationship, delegating work, keeping your employees motivated, determining ways to reward employees with company guidelines and by me having a solid relationship with my manager. An employee will respect you if you set your expectations from the very beginning. The first thing I did as a supervisor was to get the position description for each employee, ensure they had a copy, read it, understood it, and set up a one on one meeting to discuss their position and my expectations. The position description contained specific duties that can lead into the expectations. If one of the duties is that you need experience in performing tasks and
A good supervisor is firm and yet gentle with the employees. Providing continuous and constructive feedback to employees is a must for a person in any supervisory capacity. Supervisors who are helpful and appreciative of good work are much better in their capacity as
I want them to feel as if they are part of the team. I must listen to them and be open minded to their viewpoints. I need to be able to respect those viewpoint as well. Second, I feel I need to be fair as a leader. I cannot be bias to one employee over another. I understand that I will have employees that will do more for me and they are the type of employees that will get the recognition they deserve however I cannot favor them in a way that it makes others resentful. As a leader I also think it is my duty to serve and help those within our work community. Meaning that I need to have my employees back and I should have their best interest in mind over what is best for just myself. If I do not have happy employees then they will not be doing good work and that all comes back on me and reflects how I am as a leader. You can either, take the bull by the horns and lead or you can ride on the back of the bull and be bucked off! The last thing I feel I need to be as a manager is to be honest. If I am not an honest person I will never have the respect of those I work with. No matter the situation good or bad I need to be upfront and just let them know the truth. (Heathfield,
Becoming a supervisor in any position is a big responsibility. The former way to reach a management position was to perform the duties of the job and climb the ladder so to speak. As attending management college classes, I have learned that just being proficient in all the task is no longer the only requirement needed. Many leadership positions require one to understand motivating employees to enjoy their position and thus perform better. You read in the paper how a new CEO of a different business can just jump into a position and the next company. The new articles show that the right person can find that right direction and all of a sudden, you read that IBM is on top again.
I have a respectable amount of expectations of my supervisor. Foremost, I expect my supervisor to be comfortable and confident in counseling. I would expect my supervisor to have their own style of counseling; however, I feel it would also be beneficial if my supervisor understood and respected other counseling styles. I expect my supervisor to have her own set values, which will eventually be shared with me; as well as, recognizing others’ values and have the ability to work with them. My supervisor is expected to thoroughly follow her said values. I expect my supervisor to help me make the correct decisions when law and ethics do not agree. I expect my supervisor

Appropriate interactions are based on this definition of respect. A senior noncommissioned officer recognizes the boundaries and limits of their
I expect everyone to treat each other with respect no matter what the situation is. I am both fair and impartial when recommending rewards and punishment as needed and observed. The one thing that you will always see me do is encourage creativity, inspire to promote, and develop future leaders for tomorrow. I have an open door policy and encourage all to use it after exercising your attempts to mitigate through your immediate supervisor. I employ you to give it your all.
Respect is something that we all want and it's a major aspect of esteem. Getting respect from people requires behaving like a respectful person. This means showing dedication to your career, your sobriety, and treating them with the respect they deserve.

Employment relation is one of the vital and critical parts of HRM. For making an effective and healthy relationship between employers and employees, it is important to understand the perception of employment relations along with its importance in an organisation (Wang & Chen, 2005). Thus, if an organisation fails to understand its significance of employment relations and unable to manager employer and employee relationship efficiently, this might lead to impact on the organisation power and will deter its strength and profitability. According to Singh (2011), employee relations is basically a study of regulations, agreements and rules through which employees are accomplished with collective and individual group, importance imposed to individual
While labor can and is often seen as work that is done physically, it is also seen as an act which necessitates using mind and soul. Depending on the area in which an individual works, it can lean towards using all three – body, mind, and soul – to be successful. It is at this point that Emotional Labor (Hochschild, 1983) begins to take its place in the work environment. Emotional Labor is using self to perform work where an employee creates a pleasant atmosphere by giving good customer service. The ability to use self as a means to perform better on the job may have larger implications than we know of. This paper will look at different ideas which contribute to Emotional Labor as a workplace construct and the effects it has on the
Do what they ask and do it well. Treat them kindly and use proper language. You still must take into consideration the person’s emotions, needs, preferences, thoughts, and ideas. Do what they say and do it quickly. Do not ask questions, do not smart off, and do not do anything to jeopardize your own self in regards to the situation. It is important to complete the job task and complete it well the first time. Show the person you respect them. Get it done, and get it down the right way, the first time. This is how you show respect. This is how you earn respect.
A good supervisor will inspire, challenge, and motivate their employees. In addition, a supervisor has the ability to stay focused and is able see the big picture. However, one could possibly argue that the best quality that a good supervisor must possess is the skill to recognize the potential in others. Nevertheless, the most important skill a supervisor must possess is the ability to help those around realize their own potential.
The truth is that, these traits are becoming rare in careers. Having respect and the right attitude at work wil help a person to develop not only at work but in life as well.
Many organizations and establishments have philosophies in how an organization is to be functioning and which positions are necessary to execute the plan. One of the crucial positions that make the establishment function is that of a Supervisor. The term supervisor is a word with Latin roots which means “to look over,” however, a supervisor is viewed as a person who is an immediate overseer to an employee at a workplace. The supervisor is the person an employee would directly report to for any work related situation. A supervisor plays an essential part of the management team that gives an organization purpose and leadership by being responsible for employees’ progress and productivity (Bittel & Newstrom, 1992).
Dissatisfied and satisfied employees in the workplace can affect their productive and job performance. The work place, promotions, advancements, and supervisors are things that can cause an employee to be satisfied or dissatisfied at work. In my workplace some of my supervisors have driven my attitude. Robbins (2007) states, “attitudes are evaluative statements-either favorable or unfavorable-about objects, people or events.” (Robbins and Judge, 2007, p. 75) When I was first promoted to Sergeant and transferred to supervisor the Criminal Investigations Unit, I was excited about the new opportunity and the knowledge I would learn and give. My attitude towards the workplace and towards my employees was high and willing to help or produce a positive work environment. As a Christian in a non-Christian workplace, a great attitude towards job satisfaction can be found in the Bible. In Ecclesiastes 5:18 (New Living Translation), it says, “I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun and during the short life God has given them.” The workplace can be stressful but when you have good leadership they can effectively change the attitude of the people they serve.
