Growing up, I did not have a personal cell phone. The only technology in our house was a television, located in the living room. My parents were extremely strict and even put restrictions on the use of our television. Most of my time was spent reading books instead of using technology. I got my first cell phone, a flip phone, when I turned twelve years old. I was only allowed to use my phone during the day to make calls in case of an emergency and before going to bed, my parents would take it away from me. In today 's technological age, children as young as eight years old receive cell phones. Cell phones have become a basic need due to their remote effect on communication, organization, convenience and entertainment. A cell phone enables individuals to communicate with others easily. Without cell phones, a person has to meet at a specific location in order to communicate with others. They have to go through the nuisance of dressing up and driving to a location in order to meet and have a conversation. With the click of a button on your phone, you can communicate with others multiple times a day. You can use your time more efficiently and multitask while talking on the phone. A person can cook in the kitchen, or vacuum his or her carpet while talking on his or her phone. The various applications offered by smartphones offer people different methods to communicate with.
