Adding a picture or a graph to an essay or story can dramatically change how the reader views the writing, it also may change how your reader understands the idea behind your writing. In the Newsela article written by PBS Newshour called “Wild Hurricane Season for Atlantic Seaboard: Irma to come Calling” there is one picture of a hurricane, however the picture doesn’t explain anything about it. If I were to add a diagram to help the readers better comprehend I would add it in the section called Major Hurricanes could form in Atlantic. The 1964 Atlantic hurricane season featured Hurricane Dora, the most recent landfalling hurricane along the First Coast of Florida. The season officially began on June 15, and lasted until November 30. These dates conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic basin. The season was slightly above average, with twelve total storms and six hurricanes. All of the hurricanes strengthened into major hurricanes, which had not occurred since 1930. The first system, an unnamed tropical storm, developed on June 2, almost two weeks before the official start of the season. Striking Florida on June 6, the storm brought localized flooding to portions of Cuba and the Southeastern United States, leaving about $1 million in damage. The next storm, also unnamed, developed near the end of July; it did not impact land.

Greshko explains that this hurricane season has been so active because atmospheric conditions and surface seas temperatures have been warmer than normal. There have been other major hurricanes to make landfall on the continental US over the years but this season has still been unusual with two category 4 storms hitting land in a small space of time. It seems as though the longer it goes, the more severe it gets. Finally, Greshko concludes this article by talking about the cause of this catastrophic hurricane season being climate change. The climate plays a big role in weather and the warmer conditions will make for much worse tropical storms in the Atlantic. In the future individual will drop more precipitation in the future, since warmer air can hold more water vapor. Over the years, there has been over a handful of these hurricanes that have been both costly and deadly. It was between August 24th and the 26th of 1992, when the second costliest hurricane to take place in the United States of America history. The name of that expensive storm is called Hurricane Andrew. Hurricane Andrew affected the areas of the Bahamas, Louisiana, and South Florida.

Hurricane Irma was an extremely powerful and catastrophic Cape Verde-type hurricane, the strongest on record in the Atlantic region. Hurricanes are very terrifying and dangerous. They can destroy pretty much anything, it was about 425 miles long. It began around August 30 near Cape Verde Islands, In Florida keys it started to reach Florida on September 9, 2017. The average wind speed was 185 mph, that is recorded the longest because it stayed the same for 37 hours.

He begins by demonstrating the uniqueness of this year’s hurricane season with a few shocking facts. Firstly, he writes, this month will likely be the most energetic months for hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean ever recorded (the month isn't over yet so this isn't official). Secondly, it's only the 6th time since hurricanes began being tracked in 1878 that there have been two Category 5s forking in one year; thirdly, it's only the second time that two have made landfall in North America.

Hurricane Matthew came about September 25th, 2016 when a tropical wave leaves the coast of Africa and move westward to the Atlantic (Drye). September 28th, 2016 the tropical storm began to become stronger as well as moving in toward land. This storm one of the 13th hurricanes in 2016 was most deadliest and severe. At this time, Meteorologist were all over this storm tracking to see where it was leading to. The storm was moving toward the coast of Venezuela along with Colombia at 75 mph winds (Drye). At this time it was still labeled as a Tropical storm and was yet to become a hurricane. Within hours the winds were moving faster and faster, from 75mph to 100mph within 6 hours (Drye).It hit an all time record at 160 mph winds. It finally hit the United States coast October 5th, 2016.

First, the horrific events of Katrina were devastating to the citizens who were affected by this massive hurricane. Many people lost just about everything they owed and some even lost their lives. The federal government could have implemented a better strategy on how to take care of those affected. Before the hurricane made landfall, the state government should have put martial law in affect and deployed the National Guard to force people to leave their homes and seek shelter outside of the city or area that was going to be hit the hardest. The news networks should have sent out better information and outlined the hurricane evacuation routes more effectively. Hurricanes form in the late summer and early fall when the sun heats up the surface of the ocean, this change in the weather along with a few other important factors help produce the storm.

Did you know that Hurricanes have killed approximately 1.9 million people worldwide over the past 200 years. (Karen lenhardt said in her 2017 article on facts about hurricanes). We are seeing more and more of these occur, this year we have already encountered 13 named storms, 7 of them being hurricanes. Only four other seasons since 1995 have had that many by Sept. 18. Just two more by the end of the year would put 2017 in the top 15 since 1851. Maggie Astor stated in her New York Times news report about the 2017 Hurricane season . We must take notice and learn about the hurricane process so that we are able to understand the stages that hurricanes go through to get to be so fierce and devastating to get the strength to kill that many people.
