Why Gun Control in the United States Has Failed
Gun control in the United States is an issue that has drugged for over several decades ago. The government has refused to pass serious gun control legislation. Despite the government hesitance to pass the gun control legislation gun violence has vastly continued to manifest itself. Many innocent civilians have lost their precious lives. Recent mass killings in Las Vegas. The mass killings in Las Vegas in not an isolated case as many people have been killed as a result of people holding guns. In United States, at least 40% of Americans say that they either possess a gun or reside in premises with one. In 2016, eleven thousands deaths were attributed to the fact murder or even manslaughter because of involvement in the firearm. There is need to put an end to the death of people as a result negligence of the government to pass gun control legislation.
Mass shooting of people have been reported in columbine high school in Littleton, Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia; a movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado, sandy hook elementary school in Newton, Connecticut as well as attempted assassinations of U.S representative Gabriella Gifford as well as accompanying mass shooting in Tucson, Arizona. Despite such mass shooting activities there has been no serious gun control legislation that either the congress house has passed regarding the assault weapons to the people of United States.
More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day. Gun Control is becoming a huge problem in the U.S.. Numerous people have died due to terrorist and criminals who have guns. The rise of gun casualties has created a debate on whether or not you are allowed to own a gun. The amount of restrictions on owning a gun has recently made it hard to get a gun. If no one is able to have a gun, then people will not be able to protect themselves. There needs to be a limit on the amount of gun laws, however there needs to be stricter background checks so that criminals can not get guns easily.
The US government must introduce stronger gun laws in order to make American society safer, there are over 15 000 people killed annually by firearms in the states which is unacceptable. There is a direct link between the number of incidents related to guns and the restrictions imposed on them. For this reason, it is necessary to introduce further regulations and laws.
Gun control should not exist at all in the United States. Mass shootings have almost become seen as normal event in the United States. What people do not understand is that gun control is not the answer; there are countries with little to no control that have fewer shootings. According to The Washington Post,Finland is ranked number 4 in countries with the most guns despite that they only had 24 homicides by firearm (“Gun homicides and ownership by countries” n.pag.) . In the article Did Gun Control Work In Australia “it is shown that gun control has reduced the problems but it still has not completely got rid of all firearm deaths”(Matthews n.pag.). The number of murders, homicides, or suicides do not go up due to people just owning more guns. Clayton Perry, a staff writer at the University of Maine, even points out “Stricter gun laws were in place during the Assault Weapons Ban between 1994 and 2004, but that didn't stop the shooters at Columbine in 1999 ”(Perry n. pag.). In Iceland, thirty out of a hundred people own a gun and they have zero homicides caused by guns a year(“Gun Homicides and ownership by country” n. pag.). In this day and age, everything is unpredictable, guns are a form of protection for everyone and there should not be restrictions on protection. The U.S. Department of Justice released a data brief that states, “ On average in 1987-92 about 83,000 crime victims per year used a firearm to defend themselves or their property”(Rand BJS Statistician n. pag.). The National Sheriffs Association released that the average police response time is at eighteen minutes while the average school shooting only last twelve minutes (“Embracing Technology To Decrease Response Time” n. pag.). Gun control should not exist because other countries do fine without it , high gun ownership has no link with increasing death rates , and guns are not harmful when instructions are followed.
Many people around the United States are victims of shootings, whether they be school shootings, mass shootings, or Terrorist Attacks. There seem to be two common ideas either support or oppose gun control. In the United States, many gun control supporters believe that guns are the reason mass shootings happen while gun control opponents believe that people are the cause of mass shootings. But they both want the people in the United States to be safe, whether that is from government tyranny, mass shootings, gun violence, or mental health.
Gun control is a very controversial topic that has has a huge impact on the United States of America. One side believes that if guns were taken away as a whole, the country would see significantly less gun related crimes and death, while the other opposing side thinks that taking away guns is not only against the Second Amendment but would lead to an increase in crime and death because the government would take guns away from people who are legally registered to own and conceal guns. The ongoing debate will continue until the foreseeable future but their are plenty of reasons why more gun laws should be made. Taking away guns is not the answer, learning how to deal with gun violence is the key.
Gun control has become an increasingly controversial topic in the nation due to the continuous debates relating to gun control and whether or not laws should be passed to make it harder for guns to be obtained. Guns serve for a variety of purposes that range from good to bad. Guns are not for everyone. Some individuals cannot handle guns properly, and some choose to use guns inappropriately. Lately, guns have become more of a problem in our society. There has been an increasing amount of shootings that have taken many lives and have wounded people emotionally, not just physically. Although guns are used for protection, firearms are reportedly used more in crimes. More and more shootings are breaking out across the nation. As a result, the
There have been over 360 mass shootings in the United States between January and October of this year. An average of around 1.2 shootings a day should make it alarmingly clear that something must be done. Many people push for gun control due to their strong belief that it will solve the issues that come from people having the capability to murder others, and terminate the mass casualty situations, which are deemed as multiple people being injured and/or killed during a single shooting. They want the government to make it illegal to own a private gun because of how murderers and ill people put them to use. There is no doubt that gun violence and the safety of citizens is of great significance in society. There are several proposals and sides,
The topic of gun control in the United States is not debated enough. Every time a headline reads about an incident that happened where guns were involved, powerful politicians and everyday citizens alike turn the other way and choose to be ignorant instead of being upset about these awful current events. Clearly, with so many occurrences and deaths that are caused by gunfire, the United States needs reformation about its current gun control policies, essentially, the United States needs more gun control. It need gun control because several United States citizens take the Second Amendment too literally, and the amount of gun-related crimes, such as mass shootings, suicides, and homicides is too high.
The need and want for gun control has been a big issue that has constantly been brought up do to the recent massacre in early October. On October 1st, 2017 at the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada a gunman named Stephen Paddock, opened fire on a crowd of concert goers at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival and ended up killing 58 people including himself and injuring over 500 more people. This has been the deadliest mass shooting In the United States in all of history. Due to the amount of damage that was done by one man and over 20 guns people are looking for gun control laws to be put into effect in hopes of preventing crimes like this from happening in the United States again.
There have been a major increase of deaths by guns in the U.S. The numbers have increased since the late 1900s and has kept on accumulating today. Research has shown that there are many guns owned by people in the U.S than any other country in the world ( ("U.S. Gun Violence: The Story in Graphics"). The government has tried to control the gun violence, however there have been debates about that being wrong and it would take away the citizens of America’s rights. Though, there are still gun violence present; the government revoking the privilege of people owning guns, they would starts rebelling against the government and there would be more gun violence. Still, if the government doesn’t do anything about the issue families are going to flee
Gun control in the U.S has been a highly talked about topic the past couple of years. Through the development of technology and social media; many people across the country have been more involved in voicing their opinions about this issue. America is known as the land of the free, many people take pride in being able to bare arms. However, this right has been abused by not only civilians, but law enforcement as well. The United States has the 31st highest rate of gun violence in the world and it is not decreasing anytime soon. The phrase “America's largest mass shooting” has been reassigned to numerous occurrences that have taken place over the past decade. It is apparent that through these tragedies it is time for a serious change, innocent lives are being lost for no reason.
The United States of America is facing a very important problem with guns. This problem has been brought to light recently by mass killings. Weak gun laws allow criminals to get their hands on deadly weapons capable of ending many innocent lives. There are many automatic weapons being sold in the U.S. that don't belong in civilian hands. While the U.S. government is pouring money into military spending, innocent lives are being lost due to mass killings across the U.S. In just 2015 alone, 22 mass shootings where more than four people were killed have taken place. Most of the shooters were either mentally unstable, connected with militant organizations, or had extremist views on race, religion, or nationality. There were also hundreds of smaller
In the year of 2016, gun violence dramatically increased in the United States in cities such as Chicago, which experienced nearly 800 homicides, 91% of these were committed with a firearm (Awr Hawkins and Chicago Tribune). Many questions arise as to how can this even possible and its answer, is simply the fact that Chicago’s gun laws can be considered the strictest in the nation. But, states such as Texas, Vermont, New Hampshire, etc., have some of the laxest gun laws in the nation, and the lowest crime rate (Tucker Carlson). The negative effects of gun control vary from the fact that gun violence will continue to increase and law-abiding citizens will
Every day in the USA, people wake up to news of a shooting, and sadly often than not, people wake up to news of a mass shooting. After the tragedy people across all around the USA call for stricter gun control and at times for an outright total gun ban. Guns are not the cause of all this violence, rather people are the cause. Americans need to understand the real cause and have some common sense about this issue.
There are an abundance of causes and effects in the way guns are used, purchased, and sold – legally or illegally. A few causes include how guns are kept (with a safety and locked away or not), and in the way guns are obtained. The effects of these acts are, peoples state of mind, and the criticisms law enforcement may receive. Thought of as technical and firm, the laws about guns can easily be bypassed by criminals and people who are not in the right frame of mind.
