A study in 2013 found that social isolation increases the risk of death by 29%. It is a proven fact that human beings are created social creatures and can never exist in isolation because of the incompetency of fulfilling owns needs. According to Aristotle, the ultimate goal of a person’s life is to flourish and if one wants to flourish, the community needs to be flourish as well. The 9 principles of Catholic Social Thought provides a guideline for human race to recognize their duties within the community and strive for human flourishing. For instance, common good encourage the transformation of self-interested to community-interested. Common good does not just happen, for example, one person cannot clean up the pollution that everyone causes. It is a cooperative effort and requires every individual in the community to do their duties and maintain the social conditions where then the whole community can benefits from the common good. …show more content…
How can a person flourish when he/she knows that their fellow human beings are not entitled to freedom, dignity and equality? Women’s March is a result of community awareness and an example of participation, global solidarity and promotion of peace. Every individual join force together, fighting for women’s right, assisting the helpless victim to defend themselves, closing the gap and restoring human dignity. Additionally, every individual needs to follow the golden rules in order to promote human dignity. If one wants to be respected and accepted, he/she first need to respect and accept others as a whole despite their sexual preferences or economic status. Community that caters and welcomes diversities is constructed by individual that tolerates
Social isolation is a social issue where people avoid contact with one society. They are commonly seen nowadays preventing people from interacting with another as well as creating reliable relations, abating any chances for one to realize their destiny. This negative spiral immensely affects the opportunity for people holding a feeling of love and community toward others.
With over five million women, men and children united in all seven continents, the Women’s March was by far the largest and most peaceful protest in history. Washington, Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, Sydney and Paris are only a few out of the many cities world-wide that all groups of ages, genders, races and religions merged together on January 21st, 2017 to send a clear message to the brand-new government of the United States. Accumulating no arrest, the protesters conveyed that all rights are women’s rights, making the demonstration a successful act of civil disobedience. Although the Women’s March has yet to force the Congress to reform civil policy, the protest, along with all peaceful resistances, continue to positively impact free societies.
After Donald Trump won the last past elections, people have felt treated and insulted. Millions of Americans are still in shock, and many others fear to lose their security and peace. With all these events, an organization named Women’s March in Washington appears to protect human’s rights;, the group is also dedicated
The Women’s March was a protest that took place in multiple cities across the world on January 21, 2017, the day after President Donald Trump was inaugurated. The march was organized for a number of issues going on surrounding the Trump administration. The participants advocated human, LGBTQ, reproductive, and women’s rights along with other issues such as immigration and healthcare reform, racial equality, religious freedom, and workers’ rights. The march took place because of the current social and political climate surrounding the inauguration of President Trump. This date was chosen because the inauguration of President Trump, who was threatening the rights of all the different groups. It gave everyone a new drive and force to push towards equality and freedom. This march shows how feminism has changed greatly over the years and it is a strong example of intersectional feminism. Feminism served as a unifying force in the past and it still is, as shown in such a large protest. Even more than basic rights and equality for oppressed groups, these protesters fought for reproductive rights, something falling under feminism and women’s rights. Trump’s campaign outlined the defunding and/or takeaway of healthcare and Planned Parenthood, two events sparking much debate and controversy among the citizens of the United States. Many different ethnicities, races, and religions have been targeted ever since Trump’s campaign began.
“Humans beings are fundamentally social.” (Weigert and Kelley, p. 59) Even interacting with God and church is a social activity. Therefore, one cannot simply isolate her or himself from everyone and think about only his own good and interests. Communion is an important part of Catholicism, and it is a social intercourse of people with Jesus. Likewise, a lot of Christian sacraments involve interactions between different individuals. Moreover, another key understanding of common good is that by being social human being, which is inevitable, we have moral obligations and responsibilities. “The task of humanity is to “work on earth”, is to embody harmony of God and God’s creation.” It can be achieved many different ways, but it is important that all of them would do this according to the common good. All human individuals are different in all sorts of ways, race, gender, social and material status, upbringing, and much more things that make us not like each other. However, we we all created in God’s likeness, and therefore, we all should be treated with dignity and according to social justice’ principles.
For centuries, women have been oppressed and degraded in a patriarchal society. With the election of Trump, a sexist president, communities from all over the nation have participated in a march to demand respect and equality. This movement has potential to advance society and better the quality of life for women worldwide. Without protests and movements like these, women would still be under a man’s power not receiving suffrage and other basic rights. To them, equality is a priority over their safety, because advocates desire for change and freedom for those women who do not have a voice.
More than 600 of these marches took place all over the world, the largest being at the nation’s capitol in Washington D.C.. Those who participated did so for a multitude of reasons. Marching for not just equal rights for women, but for equal rights for the LGTBQIA+ community, for Black Lives Matter, for raising awareness about climate change, and much, much more. The hashtag Why I March has garnered up millions of Instagram posts, Tweets, Facebook updates, and articles, all from men and women standing up for their beliefs. The coordinators of the Women’s March on Washington put together a document outlining their guidelines and principles, and illustrate modern day feminism very well. They go over the basic principles that human rights are women’s rights, and women’s rights are human rights. It also demonstrates intersectionalism, calling for an end to police brutality, reformations for the criminal justice system, an end to human trafficking, rights for immigrants and refugees, among many others. Just as the first women’s convention in American history drew up a doctrine, the guiding vision and definition of principles of the Women’s March is eerily similar to the Declaration of Sentiments and Grievances written 169 years
I marched in the Women’s March in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 21st. I longed to be with men and women in Washington D.C, but could not make the journey. After attending the Women’s March on Washington panel, I learned you did not have to be present in our nation’s capital for your voice to be heard. The atmosphere of the marches was indescribable and filled with love. Prior to the march, I was nervous for the marchers across the world. It was interesting to learn that the students on the panel, did not feel caution toward this march. For some, it was overcoming the judgment and ridicule they received from family and friends. Yet, this march was one of the largest protests in history, but also one of the most peaceful.
This is due to the fact that some of the points being protested don't make sense and also were gone aganist by those protesting. For example, the protesters want equality for all, men, women, and also those who are LGBT, but at the same time call the march The Women's March. Excluding, men and those who have crossed over from female to male and are part of the LGBT community, in the fight for total equality of people. This may part in the shift that feminism has been taking, where it used to stand for equality of all and now can be argued signifies equality to women and minorities.1 Another topic the Women's March brought up were voting rights. Women have had the right to vote since 1920, and in 2016, more women, 83 million, than men 73.8 million registered to vote.2 Meaning this is a problem that doesn't need fighting for anymore and more attention should be going to the bigger issues. One negative of this march was the immense amount of litter caused by the marchers. This goes against one of the issues that is facing all humans and one they brought up in their protest, Climate Change. Kate Ziegler, founder of BrashFeminism.com, her blog, wrote “Not only does this delegitimize our words and our stance but it makes cities wary from hosting other large social initiatives.”3 Protests can indeed shape society as long as they include everyone and fight for the benefit of
The Woman's March on January 21, 2017, was a historic event that brought men and women together for one cause, for a purpose. The world wide protest focused on the issues of women's rights, immigration reforms, health care reform, worker's rights, among other issues. The peaceful protest was aimed to the laws and policies President Donald J. Trump proposed during his campaign and at the time of his Inauguration. The Woman's March showed that people can live without hate and can come together to fight for the same goal despite their differences in ethnicity, religion, and gender. Peaceful resistance to laws is a positive way to unite people and have their voice heard over many common social issues.
I picked for you shall treat other as you wanted to be treated because, I think it's an important rule. Some people want respect when it's not given to the
Social isolation may be measured by the strength of an older person's existing social network. The absence or weakness of the social support network forms the basis for identifying individuals who are socially isolated. According to Krishnamoorthi (2011) social isolation of the chronically ill and elderly is a costly problem. When the unmanaged chronic illness of the socially isolated becomes acutely worsened, mortality rates are higher and serious functional and mental debilitation requires total care from the system. Data indicates there is an increased risk that social isolation silently has for acute and chronic disease. Researchers have found that the absence of social relationships or those of low quality are independent predictors of all-cause mortality, even when controlling for baseline health status. Animal studies have found that social isolation lead to stressful biochemistry, through elevation of the
As we see that the number of males used to outnumber of females in law enforcement and in the military and the number of women used to higher than that of the number of males in child care and social work occupations (Little, 2013:107). This sense of inequality exists because women were given less access to opportunities than males as they were not give much more access to job opportunities than what males received and women were also not able to vote at all. The reason I have chosen the Women’s Liberation Movement that took place during the 1960’s and 1970’s is based on an empirical reason, I have always heard and seen articles about many different women’s marches which most of them marched for equality. But this particular one stood out for me because they demanded abortion on demand and even though I do not full agree with the idea of it because of my religious views, the message behind it of having women being able to make their own decisions that involved their well-being has interested
With the advent of protests one would think that rights would come quickly to prevent violence and more uprisings. Sadly, this was not the case. Women’s rights were slow to come and it would still be many years before they achieved even a semblance of equality to men.
According to some studies such as health, show a health triangle. One of the major components of good health is a social life. A social life includes hanging out with friends and doing many activities with them. As a health teacher once expressed in class, having friends around boosts your happiness level and reduces depression. Being alone allows one to over think and eventually takes away the social part of the health triangle. In many textbooks, communication is necessary in order to be a proper functioning human being. A person can solve their problems better with the help of friends and family giving their input on the best way to tackle the problem. In other words, being surrounded with people gives individuals a better mind set and keeps them going in the right
