Overall I felt my time at South Shore Elder Services as very informative and helped me gain a greater understanding of home health and geriatric health care. It also helped me see if home health is a setting that would interest me as on occupational therapist and how my interventions could help this population of clients in my future practice. Overall I think that South Shore Elder Services is a great organization and is doing great work for their clients.

P3: Explain ways in which health and social care workers support the independence and wellbeing of older people. M2: Assess ways in which health and social care workers support the independence and wellbeing of older people. D1: Evaluate ways in which the sectors work together to support the independence and wellbeing of older people. Doris has stayed connected with her friend Frieda who lives on her own independently but recently she has had a fall and she has been referred to the local authorities. P1& M2 When promoting independence and wellbeing in older people it has to be done in a way where the person feels that they are able to do what they are being asked to do and if they say that they don’t
A vast majority of the population that is nearing retirement age tend to experience a feeling of "unfinished business" and begin planning their golden years around accomplishing them. As retirees, many may start a new hobby they've always wanted to do, write a book, traveling or even going back to school in some cases. So one method a retiree can maximise the time available to accomplish all of those things is to enter a senior housing facility, and be free from the burden of caring for a home.
These services help prevent the progression of my health problems. They have enhanced the quality of my life. This results in better clarity, giving me more of an ability to take care of my affairs. Regularly, I invite family and friends to my home. I have been more consistent in my exercise classes and walking my dog when the weather permits. Since starting the service, I feel stronger and can walk further than I used to be able to do. Also, I have resumed reading novels, this winter. Recently, I started taking a computer class, too. Receiving this kind of assistance has given me a new lease on

Overall, I think it was a good idea for this firm to expand and help as many individuals and families as they can since attorneys that specialize in elder care are often only located in larger towns, it was nice to have a firm that was locally owned and operated on my case.
The United States Department of Health has an overarching goal “to eliminate health disparities.” This term has no absolute definition. It is most often defined as “health differences that occur by gender, race or ethnicity, education or income, disability, living in rural localities, or sexual orientation,” or “population specific difference in the presence of disease, health outcomes, or access to care.” Many factors cause health disparities. Older adults face challenges in one or all of these disparities. Depending on their living conditions and life-time health problems, they may be in double or triple jeopardy, increasing their risk for serious illness and need for eldercare.

Prior to 1935 there were no social programs in America for the elderly, and those that were not able to work. Those who were unable to work relied on friends and family or local charity for help. (Quadagno, 2014) pg 95. During the Depression in the 1930’s, banks failed and many people lost their savings and retirement money. Many older workers especially were let go from their jobs and unemployment among people over 45 years was high. Unemployment was about 25 percent for all workers and 37% for all non-farm workers. (Smiley, 2008).
