The community issue I choose to write about is the horrible drug problem in Johnstown, Pa. Throughout the years the problem is continuing to grow with lives continuing to be lost due to drugs. The community is standing together to fight against the problem and take care of it.
Johnstown is in the middle of a horrible drug problem currently with heroine being the main cause of it. They are saying this drug is also causing a spike in crime level with it rising drastically with the level of heroin users in the area. Some suggestions to helping this problem are requesting a prohibition on housing vouchers, expansion of neighborhood watch programs, getting businesses and nonprofit organizations to offer financial support to the Johnstown Police
The rate of substance abuse in New Hampshire is astoundingly high. In a survey conducted between 2009 and 2010 by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 12.15% of New Hampshire residents reported past-month use of illegal drugs. The national average during this time period was 8.82%, significantly lower than New Hampshire’s average. Likewise, the most common drugs of abuse during this time included other opiates, heroin and marijuana. More recently, data on drug rehab enrollments in New Hampshire during 2013 show heroin as the leading substance of abuse. As well, drug and alcohol rehab programs enrolled 1,520 individuals (36.7% of all treatment admissions) for heroin addiction treatment in 2013. The average

I am writing to you today regarding the recent outbreaks of Hepatitis A Virus (HAV) and the importance of hand washing. As you might know San Diego and Santa Cruz Counties are now experiencing outbreak epidemics, and our own county of Los Angeles declared a week ago, its own HAV outbreak.
In my community, we have a bad case of drugs. In the community of Chambersburg, there is lot of heroin. Not only is there heroin but there is many other drugs that the people of Chambersburg sell and make. A few of those drugs are marijuana, cocain, and meth, ect. But it is very difficult to find out who is dealing, and who is using. Here are some article I found about drug use in Chambersburg.
In conclusion, drugs are a major problem in our community and surrounding areas. They can affect your community greatly, in a negative way. Individuals who are infected by this terrible addiction are losing friends, loved ones and ones who want to help them get better. People need to come together to make the community great again, helping those around do good, helping them live a greater
By resolving the panhandling issue, the major issue, you can also start eliminating some of the smaller problems. Panhandling is a serious crime because they start to harass the residents and steal money from those that have sympathy to there lies. When residents give the panhandlers money, more and more panhandlers will come in the neighborhood to seek out the same opportunities. One thing that police officers can do is meet with the residents so that they can voice their opinion about the rundown homes in the community. At this time they can also seek any suggestions on how to correct the problem. The first thing for officers to do is search these homes for squatters and criminal. They should be check to see if they have any warrants. If no warrants they are
Studies show physical evidence that college athletes deserve to be paid. Many studies were conducted to prove that athletes deserve to be paid. If student athletes have to balance their school work with their sports, they deserve some type of award. Some athletes do not go to the professional league and will not always get an award for moving on to the next level, some have to find a job, instead of still playing sports. Athletes deserve to receive money because they work harder than some professional athletes to get the recruiter's attention.
This dissertation will study a number of issues surrounding drug intervention programs, gen-der and mental health issues but first I want to introduce female involvement within the crimi-nal justice system (CJS) in the context of their drug addiction and will look at theories which have helped shape criminologists perspectives of female offenders throughout the years.
The usage of heroin in the Oswego area is visible to law enforcement, but not noticed as much by ordinary residents. Due to the unseen interactions between buyers and sellers, it is easy to believe drug use is non-existent in a community such as Oswego. The truth of the matter is, this is not true. In retrospect, many of the residents use drugs in part because the neighborhood they reside in is expected to be free of such activity. The people who recognized drug use was a problem became advocates to stop the issue. For instance, there is Tim and Shannon Ryan, who are the parents of a son who overdosed from heroin. Tim Ryan, introduced his son Ryan to the world of heroin, would spend $400-$500 a day on his addiction, causing his family to lose their Oswego home and forcing his wife to file for divorce. Hoping to save her family, Shannon Ryan videotapes her husband and son while under the influence believing if they viewed the tape while sober it would cause them to quit the drug. Unfortunately, this was not what happened. The Ryan’s lost their son Nick to heroin usage. Consequently, Tim and his now ex-wife publicly speak out against heroin usage. Tim who is now clean runs a non-profit organization called A Man in Recovery.
Hilliard as well as the country, is being ravaged by the growing heroin epidemic. Heroin overdoses have become the leading cause of death in the United States, killing 43,000 people annually. Heroin has a devastating effect on the individuals, and families of this community. Leaders are few and far between in Hilliard, and I believe that with enough leaders, heroin can be overcome through effective and intentional leadership. Leaders who care will help this community by helping heal the relationships between the addict and their family and community. I believe if this community stands up, not only can we rehabilitate addicts but heal this community with practices discovered in the Rat Park experiment.
Heroin addiction is one of the leading killers of adolescents and adults in the United States. In recent years, addiction has skyrocketed, and “the rate of heroin-related overdose deaths increased by 286 percent between 2002 and 2013.” In 2002, “100 people per 100,000 were addicted to heroin, and that number has doubled by 2013” (The National Institute on Drug Abuse 2013). The most affected populations include low income males, adolescents, and those who have a family history of addiction, due to their increased susceptibility and crime-ridden environment. While it may seem as though heroin addiction is “just another drug problem” in the U.S., it is actually a problem of major public health importance because there are numerous physical, economic, and social risks associated with heroin dependence. Heroin dependence in the United States accounts for brain damage, increased homelessness, crime, and incarceration rates, as well as economic decline.
If one traveled through the small quiet community of Monroe, MI you would probably never think that this town has a drug problem. From the outside it seems like a nice middle class suburb that might be ideal to raise a family. For those that reside here however, they know that there is a growing problem. There aren’t many families that haven’t been affected by heroin addiction in this small town. The drug has literally swept through this county like an angry mob of rioters bringing crime, death, and destruction with it, leaving many people in the community asking, “Why?”
Both locally and nationally, the opioid and heroin epidemic is greatly affecting communities everywhere. People should care about this epidemic because it is changing the way you live more than you think. As drug use increases, the average income decreases, as that person can no longer hold a job. Opioid addicts cause psychological problems, which doesn’t only affect the person with the illness, but communities as a whole, as often times they no longer keep up with personal hygiene, or function as well as a healthy individual. Drug abuse also affects the child of the user. Children of drug abusers are more likely to become users in their futures, becoming a never ending
Throughout the Riverton interactive case, there was many beautiful and unpleasant aspects that made up Riverton. The beauty came from the art museum, friendly neighborhood, and etc. However, the downfall of the town occurred during the night when homeless individuals slept in bushes and left beer cans all over each neighbors yard. So, this social worker and county commissioners wanted to provide an alcohol impact zone.
