Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka (MBSL) was incorporated as an Investment Bank in March 1982. Later the company was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1991. Initially the Bank provided financial consultancy services, corporate advisory services and IPO services to large and medium businesses. In addition they were pioneers in Intermediating Investment Underwriting and Management. Also they actively participate in Capital Market activities catering to both local and global clients as well.
MBSL is also a registered finance leasing company, later introduced 24 Hour leasing Services to the Sri Lankan Leasing Market for the first time. MBSL is a subsidiary of Bank of Ceylon which holds 72.5% of their total share capital.
In 2012 MBSL celebrated its 30th successful year and they came up with the 30x30 concept. Overnight 16 Branches were opened and this was a highlighting incident that took the attention of the Financial Sector companies which reminded them that still MBSL is active in the market.
