Natural Bridges
Natural Bridges State Beach is a beach known for its viewing points of shore birds, migrating whales, seals, and otters. Its tide pools, which give a glimpse of colorful ocean life such as sea stars, crabs, and sea anemones, can be explored, and large area of coastal scrub and grasslands bring native wildflowers in the spring. Natural Bridges is named for the naturally occurring mudstone bridges that were carved by the Pacific Ocean into cliffs that bulged out into the sea. They were formed over a million years ago when silt, clay, and diatoms were solidified into a mixture of stone that originally formed three arches on the beach. However, of the three arches, only one remains to this day as the other two collapsed during two different storms.
Natural Bridges is known as a “hotspot” for monarch butterfly migrations as it is home to over 150,000 monarch butterflies between October and February. A eucalyptus grove provides habitat for these monarchs and they migrate up to 2,000 miles to the park in order to escape cold weather. The
Silvershell Beach is the home to many different aquatic species and other forms of wildlife. Last lab block the class and I went into the ocean at Silvershell beach and took seven different seine net samples. With each sample we took, we noticed a variety of different organisms. As we moved around different areas of the ocean, we would come out with changing species and number of species that we did not find in other areas of the water. Species we found included sea robin, hermit crabs, moon jellies, minnows, shrimp, eels, and more. Sample one and two were taken from around the same area in the water and there was a reappearance of three of the species. In sample one we found hermit crabs, minnows, moon jellies, and a sea robin. In sample two
Woman have always been held up to certain standards when it comes to their femininity; standards that can determine their success. In an essay called “Pink Think”, Lynn Peril expresses her own opinion on this mindset, shedding down a negative light onto the ideas and outlines created in pink think. Peril ends up mocking and pointing out the realistic ideals about the pink think mindset as well as expressing that pink think never had an intended purpose. Throughout Peril’s essay, she ridicules the standards of pink think harshly; expressing this belief through ironic statements.
Apalachicola Bay is wide estuarine system located in Florida panhandle and covers an area about 539 km2 (Figure-1). The bay is relatively shallow with an average depth of 3.0 m. It is one of the most productive natural systems in North America and highly recognized by the state, federal and international organizations for its pristine water quality and unaffected estuarine habitats (ANERR, 2008). Apalachicola bay and its barrier islands were formed by deltaic processes of Apalachicola River, which is one the unpolluted alluvial system left in the United States. The bay is surrounded by four barrier islands, St. Vincent Island, Little St. George Island, St. George Island and Dog Island. The water exchange
The mixedwood plains ecozone extends along the Quebec City-Windsor corridor, including the densely-populated region of southern Ontario. Toronto is the most populated place in the mixedwood plains ecozone with a population of 5, 203, 600.. Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa, Hamilton, Windsor, London are also some major urban areas in this ecozone. It is also covers the least amount of ground compared to any other ecozone.
Earth is always constantly changing and developing, especially the organisms that habitat on Earth. As a result, Earth is very biodiverse and has many different types of ecosystem. For instance, Earth has eight ecosystems (Tropical forest, Savanna, Desert, Chaparral, Temperate Grassland, Temperate Deciduous forest, Coniferous forest, and Tundra) and seven biomes (Wetland, Lakes, River and Streams, Intertidal zones, Oceanic pelagic biome, Coral reefs, Benthos). In these many different areas on Earth, there are many organisms, life, and valued nature. For example, Santa Cruz’s ocean are immensely important and valuable to the Cruz community because of its beautiful cinematic views and sea animals. Therefore, there are environmental justice
In the middle of nowhere, in that vast expanse of trees, lies The Bridge. Nobody knows it as any other name. It stretches across the Dead River, just sitting there waiting for someone new to find it. At one time it was driven over constantly, a way of travel for the inhabitants who are crazy enough to live out there. But now it is just there, a giant chunk of metal, rusting away into nothing. Occasionally it is used for things like fishing, or as a
A chaparral biome is a plant community shaped by a specific climate characterized by hot, dry summers, and rainy winters. This climate is known as the Mediterranean climate and it occurs in regions located within the Mediterranean Basin. Although Mediterranean climate is common within the Mediterranean Basin, it is not exclusive to this area. It can also be experienced in many other areas throughout the world including Cape Town located in South Africa, the western coast of South America, and the western coast of the United States of America. These area’s specific climate are what allows them to be categorized them as chaparral biomes. This essay will focus on the latter of these aforementioned chaparral biomes, specifically the chaparral biome found in Southern California.
The following section provides general descriptions of each of the major biomes on the Reservation. Biomes are communities of plants and animals that are typically expected to be found together on the land. For example Gila monster lizards, jack rabbits, creosote bushes, and prickly pear cactus all might be expected to be found in the same place. Natural resource managers would probably classify such a place a “desert scrub” biome and expect to find it in the southwest United States or northwestern Mexico. Climate, geology, and topography are major factors in determining the occurrence and characteristics of biomes across landscapes.
There is a population of more then eight million residents in this region and millions more congregate there every year for recreational purposes (Tedesco). The commercial opportunities of the Long Island Sound are vast. It has been estimated that about ?$5 billion is generated annually in the regional economy from boating, commercial and sport fishing, swimming, and beach going? (Long Island Sound Study). There are many other benefits from the uses of the sound, cargo shipping, ferry transportation, and power generation are just a few of them. In addition, recreational and commercial fishing provides a generous living in the Sound. Shell fishers bring in plentiful harvests of clams, oysters, and lobsters from the waters. The ideal clamming conditions provided by the sound are world renown. These conditions provide Long Island residents with an essential economic resource (Tedesco). The Long Island Sound provides some crucial components for these Long Island residents that it is considered among the most important and valuable estuaries in the world. Moreover, it has been remarked ?The Long Island Sound?s intrinsic value as a natural value and a natural resource is worth protecting and preserving for future generations? (Long Island Sound Study).
There are four pillars of the National Honors Society:character, leadership, scholarship, and service. All of these pillars can be applied to every job there is to offer, but it takes a special person being able to manage all of those at once. Out of many, some will succeed and find that managing all of the pillars can be rewarding. I have witnessed this in others, and I have witnessed this in myself.
This biome is large community of plants and animals..Also, biomes, such as the forest, freshwater, and marine, may have more consequences . The most imports biomes are the freshwater and marine because those biomes help us get water to drink and for the crops and the marine biome is also important the study of the between people and the physical environment of the sea.
Mexico was once the locations where large colonies of monarch butterflies migrated to. However in the recent years the size of the colonies have began to shrink. The monarch butterflies tend to hibernate in the winter in reserve forests. It is believed one reason for the decline of monarch butterflies migrating to the reserve forests in Mexico is because of the number of insects in these forests had increased along with the destruction of these forrest. Another reason for monarch butterflies migrating to these different areas is to follow their food source which is the milkweed. The milkweed was at one time found in large numbers through out Canda. However due to climate changes throughout North America which included freezing teperatures and
Through the Biology 124 Lab class on the spring 2016, my classmates, professor, and I went to Maunalua Bay for initial monitoring. I had never been there, so I surprised the difference between the real bay and what I expected. The Maunalua Bay is cleaner and more beautiful than I expected. I thought that there are more rocks, but there are more algae and sea animals than rocks. I found Asparagopsis taxiformis, Avrainvillea amadelpha, Gracilaria salicornia, shrimp, crab, and hermit crab. There are Avrainvillea amadelpha the most. I enjoyed finding many algaes and sea animals, and counting the algaes in Maunalua Bay.
Thousands of animals every year are euthanized due to animal testing. Animal testing is cruel and an inhumane way to torture animals for mankind’s own benefit. Because of our selfish, millions of animals suffered a vicious and painful death in the name of research every year. Animals are frequently used in biological and medical research, in the testing of drugs and commercial products, and in educational exercises in the sciences. So, can we ask ourselves, deeply in mind, that is it worth to use animal as an experiment project to enlarge our knowledge and save human lives? People are using animal on experiments is because they are trying to provide a better life to all human-being. This action stirred controversy involving the benefits
