Gallstones: Maintaining a Healthy Diet Will Maintain a Healthy You
Gallstones hold a very close annoying factor in my heart. As a registered nurse in a very busy Emergency Room, I find myself dealing with at least 2-4 gallstone/pain ER admits on every shift. I believe that one of the main reasons for the recurrent visits is due to the lack of education regarding their diet. My goal with this Outreach Project was to provide education regarding a healthy diet along with quick references to both the inappropriate and appropriate foods needed in order to manage the diagnosis of gallstones.
My main target with this project was towards the hispanic population. I prepared a handout in both English and Spanish with quick education and suggestions for those affected with gallstones. I used more pictures in my handout because it has been said that “Research has shown that we remember visual images much easier and better than words. Using imagery can make learning more fun and interesting. Especially when compared to repetitive learning by rote. We can take advantage of the brains inherent preference of remembering visual imagery by visualizing information we want to remember. The better you are able to visualize something the better you

Unfortunately, not only is education a problem with my patients but their ability to understand the language, I would say that approximately 50% of all my patients do not speak english. Again, this is why I choose the picture format versus more of the written content. I was not able to found out exactly how many of our patients are seen in our facility for the gallbladder attacks but according to the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, there is some research indicating the amount as stated “the prevalence of gallbladder disease ranges from 10% to 15% in adults and is the one of the most common digestive diseases requiring hospitals admission and financial resources.”
Coders has to make sure they are putting the decimal in the right place for proper ICD-10 codes in order to get the correct diagnosis. Example Pain in gallbladder K82.9 If it looked like K82 as a coder we would know this not correct and would cause a issue with getting this paid,or the computer kicking it back with error.
Should the Galls complaint be dismissed? The circumstance between Stephen Gall and McKeesport Municipal Water Authority is whether or not the UCC still applies if under the condition of contaminated water. McKeesport claims that this will not apply because water is not considered a sale of good. However, I believe that under the UCC this case will not be dismissed because McKeesport is promising a good, which is water. I believe the UCC applies because McKeesport was in charge of maintaining water that is what they are in charge of selling; water is their good. However, in Oklahoma they have their own version of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). That is if it is "governed “transactions in goods,” with “goods” being defined as” all things (including specially manufactured goods) which are movable at the time of identification to the contract for sale (Breach of Contract)." I would believe that the UCC would vary depending
The cat's gallbladder is a small, balloon-shaped organ that is located in the lobes of the liver. Its primary function is releasing bile into the digestive tract to aid in the digestion of food. Cholelithiasis is a condition that causes small stones, or choleliths, to form in the gallbladder. These stones are typically made of calcium carbonate mixed with other secreted substance and minerals.
The pancreas and the gall bladder are two of the most important organs of the digestive system. Together they help with the digestion process. The pancreas and the gall bladder work together with different functions, the gallbladder stores bile that comes from the liver so that it can be used for meals later on and the pancreas produces pancreatic juice that contains digestive enzymes that help break down food. In order to maintain the body stable and healthy, we need the help of the gallbladder and pancreas to function correctly. Which is why, we, as humans should take care of our organs. It is also advised that patients add their intake of unrefined whole grains for their gall stone diet.
If you have gallstones or an infected gallbladder, your doctor may advise you to have surgery. Gallbladder removal is one of the many surgical procedures that can be done laparoscopically. That means recovery is usually much quicker and the hospital stay is shorter than surgeries that require a full incision. Here's a look at how laparoscopic gallbladder removal is done and what to expect as you recover from it.
The gallbladder and bile ducts along with bile juice perform significant functions, including digestion and fat absorption and excretion of various metabolites from the liver.
Gallbladder carcinoma (GBCs) is a highly lethal but relatively rare neoplasm of the digestive tract. Most of GBCs are adenocarcinoma (AC), and squamous carcinoma (SC) or adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) is a rare histopathologic subtype, which accounts for an estimated 1.4 - 10.6% of all GBCs cases [1]. However, the clinicopathologic characteristic and biological feature in SC and ASC of the gallbladder have not yet been fully clarified, due to their lower disease incidence. The previous studies indicated that their tumorigenesis might be induced by the gallbladder mucosa squamous metaplasia, or the pluripotent basal cells from mucous membrane of gallbladder, which may be associated with chronic inflammation of gallstones [2-4]. In addition, other investigation found that SC/ASC of the gallbladder might be result in some carcinogens, including bile anthracene and methyl anthracene, from long-term bacteria or chemical reactions [5]. Moreover, the histologic morphology of SC/ASC is differed from AC, including grater proliferation capacity, high-grade malignancy, and the aggressive invasion of surrounding organs, and less metastasis in regional lymph node and distant organs [6]. Notably, there is no detectable symptom in the
The patient faces various cultural, economic and lifestyle challenges based on the analysis. It also indicates that language barrier is a key factor that prevents the formation of a collaborative relationship with health experts. Therefore, medical specialists should seek to address the patient in simple language. The specialist should also focus on the patient’s feelings and attitudes. This will enable him to provide credible data that will facilitate a comprehensive treatment plan.
In 2004 my grandmother and I moved from Haiti to United States without a speck of English in our language. After few years living in the states, my grandma started to get ill and she had to seek monthly medical assistance. At the time, my mother was working multiple jobs and I was a full time undergrad student that lived on college campus. Our busy schedule posed a challenge for us to bring grandma to her medical appointments. Most times it was hard for us to find someone to go with her and assist her with language translation. When it was time for her to go by herself, the health providers would have trouble finding a professional translator on the spot to assist my grandma. This became a repetitive problem and my grandma’s case was not getting any better. If she had the ability to communicate with her provider using her own language, she would have been able to be more expressive about her symptoms and the doctors would have assisted her to her needs. Just like my grandma, many people that speaks little to no English, are having trouble interpreting their medical diagnosis and communicating with their healthcare providers.
A current pressing matter in the healthcare field is making sure that older adults understand their whole healthcare continuum. Older adults being illiterate on their health care is preventable reoccurring issue. There are many different angles for individuals in the healthcare field to limit this issue. This is sometimes not only related to a language barrier, processing issue, but sometimes a cultural barrier as well. Not all cultures understand widely held American medicine beliefs (Center for Disease Control, 2009).The Department of Health and Human Services, ( all of the D.H.H.S citation is from the article you sent me, still deciding which source to use.) article suggested a few options promoting more accessible information, addressing
Many individuals learn using a combination of styles. After considering all aspects of my patient I created my teaching plan to benefit visual, auditory, and tactile learners. My plan included an informative brochure that I created at a reading level suitable for my patient and visual aids consisting of tables such as “My Plate,” nutrition labels, and certain foods to avoid. The visual aids were necessary for my patient’s literacy level
I see many challenges in regards to providing care to patients that do not speak English especially in the healthcare realm. From the very beginning we need to know what is wrong, what happened, how long it has been going for, what medical history they have, allergies, and medication taken. How can we treat what we do not know is wrong? In order to probably do some root cause analysis you need to drill down and see what is going on, which cannot be done if you cannot communicate. Also, you do not know what I making things better. These non-English speaking individuals will have unmet needs because of my inability to
In the 18th century, the Age of Enlightenment began in Europe. The Enlightenment was a philosophical movement that caused many philosophers to think differently. The new goals of these philosophers were liberty, reason, progress, tolerance and the end of the church and state conflicts. During this time, there were many wars between the Catholics and the Protestants which forced the French monarchy to choose in between them. Finally, it was over and the Catholics controlled most of the power and the Protestants were given the freedom and started becoming an important aspect of their
Issues gained from this data collection, such as language barrier is one example how this process of care benefits the patient. A patient who does not have a strong understanding of the English language may need an interpreter to assist with their understanding of their illness, and explain informed consents for procedures, maintaining the patient’s autonomy and respecting their cultural differences is important throughout the care process. This data is electronically documented and can be retrieved for use by other healthcare professionals.
