The non-profit organization, A Call to Make Advancements using Mentorship and Advice, also referred to as Call Mama, focuses on helping low-income minority women in North Charleston, South Carolina. The organization was founded by Dr. Ernestine Barnes-Smalls in 2010. Her personal life struggles involving the death of her father and growing up in poverty ultimately led her to create the organization. Barnes’s extensive collegiate education also made her in expert in the field as she obtained a graduate level degree for Springfield College and a doctoral degree at Capella University in the School of Public Service Leadership. She also works within her community educating troubled youth and those stricken by poverty at programs at Trident Technical
