The Past Unfolded to Reveal the Future It takes learning from life experiences for someone to grow up and for someone to find who he or she is. Carson stands up for what he believes in and does not get distracted by other people’s opinions. He is confident in his own choices and is able to differentiate between right and wrong. Feelings and emotions always play with someone’s state of being, but with Carson, he holds them back. Through the support of his friends and their relationships, he makes those feelings become more visible.Values and morals are two things many stand by, but for Carson trust is a big thing for him. Meyer portrays him as an honorable person, and someone who always tries to see the best in belittling situations. Carson is straightforward in his answers because he believes that his own option and beliefs are more important than others. Determination drives Carson, on the fact that only he can control his life, and he is able to determine what counts in life. Meyers portrays Carson in this way to show that he stands by his opinions no matter how harsh it comes off, to other people; “I don't want a win the lottery. I want a ranch. Far as I’, concerned, this ain't somethin we oughta even think about” (Meyers 309). Through using this quote, Meyers is able to show the significance of the entitlement Carson develops along the way.
