In the persuasive essay “Carry Your Own Skis” by Lian Dolan, she talks about what kind of person you are if you carry your own skis. She tells stories of what it was like for her when she went on family ski trips. Her mom’s rule was if you couldn’t carry your own skis, you were not allowed to have fun. Lian Dolan explains how she took this lesson with her throughout her life and how she believes everyone should live by this rule.
Lian Dolan is a writer from New England. When she was little her mother and her mother’s twin sister would take all of her siblings and cousins on family ski trips. Her mother’s rule on these ski trips was that if you couldn’t carry your own skis you were not allowed to participate in the fun. Lian took this with her throughout her life. She knew that if she wanted to have fun and be respected she had to work hard first. As she grew up she realized that many people did not want to do the work before they had fun. These people, she came to find, did not get to have fun after all because they did not do the work first. So she wrote this essay to persuade her audience to carry their own skis.

Anyone could read this article and think about their lives in a new light. Her audience might have some bias towards the, play hard now and work hard later concept. This bias could be caused by being spoiled as a child or maybe even just not having that work hard
