After watching the Carol Marcotte and Sally Biggs video, I decided to respond to the topic of budgeting to meet the needs of our students. Specifically, how we can validate what we say in one of our belief statements. That belief statement reads, “we believe that learning and living abroad facilitates a cosmopolitan world view” and as such, it is the desire of the school to have each student have an international travel experience. While the word “cosmopolitan” has become a running joke among our faculty conversations, the premise is that we are able to see beyond our rural campus and have a positive impact on the greater world. Mercersburg has raised funds in order to provide financial aid to students who qualify for these break travel programs that will expose students to various cultural, educational, and community service oriented experiences. Ideally, we want …show more content…
Flock before he died, it is an arduous process to award aid to students and meet Flock’s bequest requirements. Flock’s bequest included that trips must have a price tag of no more than $4,500, that aid awards go to students who have completed their eleventh grade year (this is to include seniors who have just graduated for summer travel after their senior year), that a student who has already participated in an international trip that was fully funded by the school will be last in line to receive aid in future years, that the trips maintain gender balance when possible, and that exchange trips in each of the modern languages remain a priority. We also have a committee made up of the Sr. Associate Director of Admission and Financial Aid, the Director and Assistant Director of Summer and Extended Programs, the Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs, the Associate Head of School, and the Assistant Head for Finance and Operations who will vet ideas and situations before final decisions are made and relayed to the students and their
“St. Bonaventure and Ithaca have both offered me scholarships,” Hillen says his words drifting off as he wanders into his thoughts, thinking about the adventures that await him. “I spent two weeks visiting various colleges this past winter break,” Hillen says as he recounts his travels to Ithaca, St. Bonaventure, Buffalo, and
A good reaction arises in me when I see the union of society as you can clearly see in these videos analyzed; For example, in the video the movie Holding Ground part 2 About the Dudley Street Initiative in South Boston and Cabrini Green in Chicago, clearly see as a culture is work of a neighborhood in a way that reaches social neglect and harms the community general because poor hygiene and poor services become absolute owner and harm the good development of that community.
His foundation also awards twenty to thirty students each year with scholarships to the Berry College in Rome, and through its Leadership Scholarship Program, Chick-fil-A has contributed millions of dollars in college aid to restaurant employees. WinShape Camps is another component of the foundation, providing two weeks of summer camp at Berry College for boys and girls. (” New Georgia Encyclopedia”)
In the small town of Libby, Montana, teamwork is necessary. Teamwork relates to this video because of what they are trying to do. The citizens of Libby are trying to get the asbestos problem to be looked at as a national issue and emergency, but some higher up authorities are not giving in. They use teamwork to try to make this a bigger issue. If one or two people say something or to stand up for something, it is never a big deal as a nation. However, more people can make this problem noticed. Knowing this, the people of Libby that are going through this issue join together as one town and one unit to try to make something happen. They had large

Alena Hall is the associate healthy living editor from the Huffington post. She writes and publishes many stories involving health and wellness. This particular story, is about the effects of eating organic foods. There is a video about a family who goes through an experiment. They are tested prior to the test, in which the results came up with some shocking results. They were then only fed organic food and tested, they were overwhelmed with the difference these products had. Watching this video has such an impact on the way the public views organic living and also represent why it’s important for our health. This video is not only intended for adults, but also to show children the positive aspects of a healthy life. Overall, the main purpose
Acts of violence are detrimental when regarding its effects on human emotion. When exposed to too much violence, a person’s perception on society and even themselves begins to be altered. Nevertheless, just as violence can be disadvantageous to people, it can also be seen as an advantage as it causes citizens to realize that change needs to occur. In “Great to Watch,” the author, Maggie Nelson, discusses how society, especially Americans, have become desensitized to violence. Nelson also goes into depth to explain how society has become accustomed to violence due to the fact that people are exposed to it on a daily basis. In addition, Beth Loffreda discusses and explains the effects that a violent hate crime had on the town of Laramie, Wyoming
Frontlines video “Separate and Unequal” brings up two differing sides to an on growing concern within Baton Rouge. Both sides have one common goal and that is to better the education of their own children. However, with this mutual desire comes conflict with both parties due to the fact that some parents believe that their child is not receiving the best education they can get and thus limiting their child’s future. Frontline though does not choose to focus on this important issue throughout the video and instead alters the situation so it becomes a racial conflict instead.
Despite the new discoveries in medicine whether it is a new vaccine or antibiotic, the most basic components for disease prevention and death in humans depends on a good nutrition and access to clean water. The RX for Survival: Back to the Basics video depicts how both an inadequate nutrition and malnutrition can impaired a child’s physically and developmentally. It is estimated that over 100 million children in the world are undernourished and causing the death of more than “one third” of the children (WHO). Furthermore, the consumption of contaminated water, which carries disease organism, exacerbates the mortality rate among children.
This was an interesting video, this is also the first I have ever heard of Julie Butterfly. I enjoyed watching the video and learning about her experience and the environmental cause she stood for. I have an understanding of her compassion and fight for “Luna”. I believe there is a fine line between using resources responsibly for production and improvement of society as a whole and the abuse of those resources. Typically the abuse comes from greed and the need for money or finances. In the documentary video it did not touch on the financial desperation of Pacific Lumber through a number of their years. The company itself ceased to exist in 2008, it takes a few years for a company to go under, and so I believe that several of their decisions
The Anna Dale Dalton Competitive Scholarship Award on behalf of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated would invigorate my determination to change the community around me. I always strive to serve my community in four tiers. The first tier, Scott County High School, is the most immediate to me. In the past year I have established a library of resources solely dedicated to Advanced Placement, SAT, and ACT review materials that any student has access to. I have done this because Scott County High School has the largest Advanced Placement Program in the state of Kentucky, one that I have helped nurture for the past three years through my position as President of Advanced Placement Advisory Council. When the school board refused to allow the
When watching this video of Jenna Kanell, she believes as human beings we are born to concord the universe. In some point of life, we as human beings we are either dragged down by our piers. In watching this video, we are capable to anything that we put our mind to. In the video, Jenna Kanell talks about her brother Vance. Her brother Vance was diagnosed with autism. She said that one that one of the most important that her parents did for her Vance was to never let him know what he was supposed to be able do. The answer to that was to be limitless. Jenna Kanell ended up making a movie with her brother called the disability challenge. In this she had to come up with a film within forty-eight hours about kids with disabilities. She ended up

Throughout his presentation, Hans Rosling shows that the rich and wealthy release the most carbon emissions, but they are often the ones telling Africa or another developing country they shouldn't begin using fossil fuels and other technology because it's hurting the environment. Rosling claims that the rich end look down at the "poor" people and say, "You cannot live like us, you will destroy the planet." Technology, however, is key to progressing out of poverty and developing. As shown in his graphs, the wealthy release the most emissions, but shake their finger at developing countries that are starting to use technology and/or burn fossil fuels. An example used in the video is Africa and the coal available to them to provide warmth and light.
An advisory committee will be formed consisting of no more than an 8 member sample of the major stakeholders group, parents of currently enrolled high school students, contributors from the local community, and administration from the school district.
