For most of high school, whether I should study business or engineering muddled my college search. I have always had the people skills of a successful salesman or businessman; however, I also understand the importance of learning a technical skill in one’s professional success. I finally chose the engineering school at Texas A&M because, among other factors, the challenge of learning the upper level math and science required to earn a degree here piqued my interest.

While attending Liberty Univeristy, I started out as a Business Major, but after a few accounting classes I decided to be an Accountant. Not only did I find a career path at Liberty, but I also found my life's mate. We have been married for 34 year and our proudest accomplishment in life are our three children. Nathan, recently married and lives in Wisconsin. Both are clinical pharmacists in the hospital setting. Nathan published his first article for the Pharmacy Journal which started sibling riviary. In the fall of 2012, I enrolled in North Hennepin Community College to pursue an Associate’s Degree in Accounting consequently awakening my thirst for learning. My goal when I first enrolled in North Hennepin was to acquire an Associate’s Degree, and join the workforce, however, as I progressed closer to finishing my course there, I realized I wanted a Bachelors’ Degree since I enjoyed challenging myself and learning material that was critical to my career.

On May 2, 2012, the National Football League lost one of its elite players to suicide: Junior Seau. Seau played for the Chargers, Dolphins, and the Patriots during his professional football career and was a 12-time Pro Bowler before retiring in 2009. I had certainly heard of Carnegie Mellon before, but it was actually my interest in a different college that lead me to want to apply to Carnegie Mellon. I was in fact visiting the University of Pittsburgh, when I was simply astounded by some of the architecture of the Carnegie Mellon’s buildings. I would be walking through Oakland, and would tell my dad how much I loved that University of Pittsburgh building, only for him to inform that we are no longer on the Pitt campus but instead seeing many of Carnegie’s buildings.
