Canada played a critical role in World War II, and because of Canada, Britain was able to defeat the Nazis. The most important support that Canada provided to Britain was air support. Canada was able to provide air support in the Battle of Britain because of the BCATP that they started at the beginning of the war, and many of the soldiers in this program fought hard and gave their lives for peace. Canada and Canadian pilots were so significant to the Allies and especially to Britain during the war. Hitler wanted to make Britain surrender; he also tried to negotiate with them, but he didn't get any answers, so he changed his strategy. Hitler said before the start of the Battle of Britain: “Since Britain still shows no sign of willingness to …show more content…
Overall, at the start of the war, no one thought Canada would play a significant role in the war, but as the war continued, everything changed. It was all because of the brave pilots that Canada had. Canada did a significant job in the air in World War II by defending the allies and helping them win the war. As the bomber command of Canada played a vital role in the Battle of Britain and Canada's battered fleet made it possible to defeat Hitler's alleged plan for surrender of Britain and, in the same instance, averted invasion of Britain, the strategic air support of Canada in the Battle of Britain was of great significance in maintaining the defense of Britain. Undoubtedly, the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan was the most expensive initiative undertaken by Canada during the war; however, it was also arguably one of the most important. for the British Commonwealth and the allies in strengthening the British and Commonwealth air forces' staff. In the process, Canada was acknowledged by all involved as an imperative partner in providing air
To say Canada played an important role in World War Two would be an understatement. Canada’s significance in the war will forever be remembered as one of the greatest, and the Battle of Hong Kong is a prime example of just that. The fact that Canada provided troops even with the optional not to, and the struggles the troops endured not only on the battlefield, but as prisoners of war, and the amount of physical and moral support the Canadian soldiers gave to the British soldiers in Hong Kong is proof that Canada was a major contributor in World War Two.
Canada's contributions to the war were extremely significant. They made many sacrifices and lost a great amount of lives, but for those who sacrificed their lives for our country they in turn helped us to achieve the many goals we are proud to say we have accomplished then and now. The majority of Canada had a great impact on WW2. They were helping Britain financially, providing the Allies with supplies for the war effort and persuading our citizens to join the army, factories, and air force. Canada had also become one of the most significant military powers with the world's fourth largest air force, the world's third largest navy and an army with six divisions.
Canada and the United States are close neighbours. These two countries relationship has evolved throughout the years. World War II had a big impact on their relationship, altering it like never before. They grew closer together and they turned to each other rather than to another country. The war impacted their military relationship in contribution and changes, it made new agreements between them and brought them together in defence.
In the second World War, the Royal Canadian Navy and it’s multiple successes allowed for Canada to continue developing a sense of identity. Also, the Royal Canadian Navy became a source of national pride, as it had carried out a vital ware in the Battle of Atlantic, guarding a huge amount of merchant ships and a huge amount of merchandise. Along with all of that, in the second world war, the RCN helped continue the separation from Britain. Canada, for once, didn’t join the war as soon as Britain joined. Canada postponed the joining of the war 10 days after
World war 1 held many memorable and proud moments for Canada. One of the moments were made by the flying ace in the Canadian military. His name was Billy Bishop and he was credited with 72 victories, making him the top Canadian ace in World War 1. Also, The Battle of Vimy Ridge toughened Canadian nationalism and pride when they won against Germany. All the Canadians were all so proud of there country and military. Moreover, they thought that Canada’s was superior then all the other countries.
Now, Canada established itself as a middle power as a result of World War II, taking on a more active international role. Their troop were recognized for their numerous contributions to the war. The Canadian army, consisting of troops with different racial backgrounds lead to civil rights. Canadians became safer as the law intervened more frequently. By then, Canada had the 3rd largest naval force and the 4th largest air force.
The fighting overseas caused Canada to become more independent, not having to go to the British or any other countries as much. It helped Canada "grow up" and be seen as its own country by others. Canada demonstrated this when it signed the Treaty of Versailles independently and not as part of the British empire. At home, WW1 helped make Canadians learn to respect women, letting them have better jobs, getting higher salaries, although they still aren't equal to that of men. WW1 also caused French Canadians and English Canadians to fall farther and farther apart because of the conscription laws that Prime minister Borden placed.
World War One is a huge part of history in Canada. Although many say it hindered, it most certainly helped Canada’s progress towards nationhood. Women relatives of soldiers and nurses got the right to vote during the war when Robert Borden was Prime Minister. Years later, that lead to all women in Canada receiving the right to vote. Canada was also industrialized greatly during the war. People started to move from rural areas to urban, and many factories were being built. All the Canadian soldiers fighting in the war brought pride and honour to country. After winning the battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917, Canada was noticed and recognized as an independent country.
Canada’s military performance in various battles such as the Battle of Passchendaele and Vimy Ridge in World War I was epoch-making and it really illustrated our military strength. Canada was praised as a nation and our identity was impacted by World War I. The war efforts and Canada’s involvement with the war were exceptional. While there were many events in Canadian history that helped shape our nation, World War I remains the most significant
The Second World War was a significant event in Canadian History. On September 10th, 1939 Canada entered the Second World War, seven days after France and Britain declared war on Germany. Canadian Prime Minister Mackenzie King did not want Canada to become involved in another world war because the results of WWI were still fresh for many Canadians. The economy was just starting to improve in Canada after the Great Depression and the Prime Minister did not want the country back in debt. Even though Canada was now an independent country and could decide for themselves whether or not to go to war, they knew that once Britain became involved, Canada would not watch from the sidelines. The decision to join the war was made by the Canadian Parliament after King gave a strong speech in favour of war. War showed Canadians that by their
Canada’s contribution in the Allied war effort did not only come from Canadian soldiers, but also from regular, everyday citizens who never saw battle, such as those involved in the Canadian war industry, BCATP, and the Corps of Canadian Firefighters. The Canadian industry supplied a great deal of war materials for the Allies, producing “more than 800,000 military transport vehicles, 50,000 tanks, 40,000 field, naval, and anti-aircraft guns, and 1,700,000 small arms.”6 Canada’s strong war industry was required to produce as much ammunition, weapons, and vehicles as they could in order to defeat Germany, who had great industrial power at the time. In 1939, Canada became the home for major recruiting and training for pilots during the Second World War in an organization called the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Throughout the war, Canada had graduated 131,533 airmen, including pilots, navigators, bomb aimers, wireless operators, air gunners and flight engineers.7 These men would later become involved in the war in the air, and their numbers would greatly contribute to the Allied air superiority. During the Battle of Britain, German air forces relentlessly bombarded London and
It was a horrible time. There was no money, Canada was in debt. The stock market had just crashed, and soon Canada realized that Germany could approach the people became terriffed and so did the Canadian government they had to prepare, and had to come up with a way to make enough money to buy equipements to start the war. Most of Canada was unemployed and the making that had jobs weren’t rarely making anything. People have claimed that Canada was the mos unprepared country for WWII, as they were so far away that they believed that Germany could not attack them.
The Second World War is looked back upon as a time of great sorrow, yet also honour for Canada. Despite the destruction, death, and devastation, World War II became a defining moment in the development of Canada’s identity. As seen in this quote from the Counterpoints Socials 11 textbook, “It was a good war for Canada too, because it made us a great nation. I mean... it showed us what we could do.
Canada officially went to war on August 4th, 1914 as a result of the British declarations of war on Germany. Even though Canada got nothing to do with the war, Canada did not have the decision or the choice to join the war due to Canada being one of Britain 's colonies. Canada at that time had a total population of 8 million people, in which, 620 000 served in the war and as a result, 60 661 were killed and 172 000 were wounded. The casualties were really high. There is no place in the world that is worth the slaughter of human beings.
World War 2 had a great impact on every aspect of Canada Today. Money became stronger, our power was at its peak and we were an independent country
