Many use water bottles as an easy resource for on the go occasions. But they have never really understood the behind the scenes to all the companies involved. Water bottle companies have a very severe impact on people, environments in societies and on how they handle their way of gathering their resources.
Everyone has once bought a water bottle before, it’s an easy resource to rely on. Most don’t realize where that water is being collected from and how it does affect us. In ARTICLE 1 it states that “California residents are forced to cut back their water use”. That problem is due to the companies of water removing the public water of residents in California. Creating a strict environment in California in ARTICLE 1, it also states that “district

In ARTICLE 1 it states “… companies continue to bottle water during the fourth year of the drought…”. Not only are they making it harder for residents to have their water but creating more of a drought for California. In SOURCE 2 (A MAP), it shows a map of California that is color coated into a key that shows what places companies gather their water from abnormally dry to places that are severe and exceptional droughts. There four main companies showed that collect the most which are; Aqua, Arrowhead, Crystal Greyer and Dasin. In SOURCE 2 the key shows an image that all four companies gather the most in severe and exceptional drought-ridden areas. There is a quote stated in SOURCE 2 that says “ your bottles waters comes from the most drought-ridden places in the country” which is shown to be accurate in the map of the four different companies showing where they gather their water. Unaware of the fact of how severe droughts have …show more content…
As stated in SOURCE 1 THE ARTICLE “ bottled water serves a good use, especially in drought-stricken areas where people's wells have gone dry” helping provide those who have nothing. Although in ARTICLE 1 it states “Even if every bottling company moved out, that wouldn’t solve the drought. But that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t have an impact at the local level.” Solving the drought problem isn't possible with how corrupt its became over the years. It would become more of a positive outlook on those who will have more
In the his brief but effectual article “The Wrong Way to Think about California Water”, the author Michael Hiltzik presents to the reader “a guide to the wrong ways to think about California water, and the glimmer of a better way”(Hiltzik). In the short piece, Hiltzik argues that the current debate on how California should be spending its meager allowance of water during the current drought is being thoroughly misguided. Hiltzik writes that people should stop criticizing businesses that consume “large” amounts of water, rather, the water already being used should be utilized more efficiently and effectively. “The only lasting solutions include creating a better-functioning water market with transparent pricing and transfers, so that water
Californians are being heavily fined for using a certain amount of water a month, which impacts the daily lives of everyone. Water is a natural resource that is crucial to everyone’s survival. Whether if it’s being used for cooking, showering, gardening, washing your car or just simply drinking purposes; water is a necessity for everyone. Though the bill has not yet been passed by congress and officially has not become a law, the issue still remains on the table. The drought in California has taken a massive toll on agriculture, the environment and infrastructure. The drought is on its route to damage California’s climate change. In the past three consecutive years the average rain fall has drastically decreased, and the winter temperatures have increased. Since majority of California’s water comes from the Western Rocky Mountains, the water supply there is dropping resulting in more strict laws and regulations on how much water can be consumed by the average
For at least the past four years, California has been in a drought. Since it has been so long of a drought, officials are finally starting to encourage people to diminish their usage of water. When the encouragements are not working, they use force and statewide restrictions are put into place. In an article titled ¨The Wrong Way to Think about California Water¨ by Michael Hiltzik, the author rants on Californians for the amount of water that they use daily, yearly, and constantly. However, the argument only supports one side.
Why do citizens have to overuse water? California has a drought and laws are trying to stop the way that people overuse water. I believe that it's a good way to control water to prevent numerous things that will affect the state and innocent people.
In the article, “The Wrong Way to Think about California Water”, by Michael Hiltzik, Hiltzik writes about some people’s perspectives of the water usage in California. I disagree with some of them, but I also agree to some. I relate to one of the perspectives and I will try to stop doing what is wasting water.
Water rights policies have been an important topic throughout the history of California, as the resource is perpetually
Due to the lack of rain in the past few years, and particularly in the last few months, California faces severe drought. This is the worst drought in more than one hundred years. The impact of California drought affects community, agriculture, organic ranchers, and dairy farmers. Because of these facts, the United States must rethink the way it uses water. Californians alone are asked to reduce their water usage by twenty percent to prevent water waste.
California is undergoing a huge environmental crisis of water shortages across the state. California produces almost half of the US grown vegetables, fruits, and nuts. It produces more than 400 commodities (CDFA,2013). The drought has had a huge effect on agriculture because the farmers have received drastic cuts on their water usages which greatly affected their yields. The whole United States is feeling the effects due to the drought because of less crop yields, prices have
On March 27, 2014, Wade Graham of the San Francisco Chronicle reported “The Water Revolution California needs.” California is having a severe drought. Wade Graham tells his readers that California is in a serious water crisis. The state of California needs to make strict changes to how water is being distributed amongst farmers and residents. Before all of California’s ecological system is destroyed. Wade Graham believes that water should be priced higher; that way people aren’t wasting water. Water is a limited resource that should never be wasted, and is probably California’s most valuable resource. Unfortunately, many people waste water; instead of conserve water especially when we live in the state of California where we are subject to
California has always had a warm climate, yet its supply of water has rarely been affected. In 2014 California’s water shortage issue truly began. Due to low amounts of snow in the winter in recent years, California has tried to equal out these shortages by drilling water from underground aquifers. Yet, underground aquifers recharge much slower than surface water sources. California has already made significant drawbacks to attempt to limit the amount of water they use, so these aquifers can recharge. But still resources continue going down and the Central Valley Aquifer’s water level is rapidly declining. Luckily, on April 7, 2017 the drought stage of emergency in California was ended. Yet the issue isn’t truly resolved. Glen MacDonald
“The Story of Bottled Water” by Annie Leonard’s central purpose is about how bottled water is less environmentally-friendly, less tasty, and less safe, but more expensive. The author wants action to be taken to ban water bottles and increase the access of safe tap water to all.
Currently California is facing a water shortage. The issue has been addressed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in February. He called for all state agencies to find the way to help in the statewide water shortage. This is California’s third consecutive year of drought and last spring and summer was the worst of the season because it had the lowest amount of water recorded and California’s reservoirs were at their lowest point as well which did not help in the water shortage. Many agencies have been acquired to find possible solutions to the water shortage, the Department of Water Resources has been directed to find solutions to the problem as well as asking people to conserve water.
Ever since the early nineteenth century until today, the California water crisis has been an issue that is yet to be resolved. As one of the largest states with a population of over thirty million (Class Discussion); water consumption is in high demand. "From the very beginning, California was a state with tremendous agricultural potential"(Chan, S., and Olin, S. Pg 136). A similarity from both the California of the early 1800 's and today is that water is an expensive and important resource being sourced primarily from the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The difference between then and now is that previously we had an abundant water supply but we did not know how to utilize it effectively to meet demand. Contrast that situation to today, and the demand for water remains, however the supply is no longer available to meet the needs of Californians. In this paper, we will discuss the legislative decision 's to bring California’s water supply to its people, the fight for conservation, and discuss the drought as it is today.
The state of California is in the decision of regulating water or not, and farmers are fighting against the regulation of water, while citizens are with the law for limiting the water they use. Based on the citizen’s point of view they want to limit the water they use every day because they wouldn’t like to have no water for months. In my opinion, I support farmers’ decision, I believe there should not be regulation of groundwater. Groundwater is the most important source that we have, and citizens are scared of losing our main source. However, groundwater is more useful for farmers because thanks to that they are able to do their plantation and be able to keep our food fresh.
The river had a reputation for nastiness, and after the April 2014 switch, residents complained their water looked, smelled and tasted funny” (McLaughlin). With the citizen’s public water being contaminated, they need clean water. Through bottled water, the residents can get the clean water they need to survive. Other major natural disasters the bottled water aided in were Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami of Japan a few years ago. Natural disasters are liable to strike at any moment and bottled water is there to help the victims if their water is contaminated or if there is no tap water available.
