Pursuing A Recovery Program At Cal Poly

When I started my collegiate journey, I felt lost. I fell in love with a wonderful school, but after my first quarter, taking Earth Science courses, I felt like I had made a massive mistake in the original major I had chosen. At Cal Poly, it was necessary that all students declare a major before being accepted and as a high school senior, I had no idea what I wanted to become. I felt like I never had the opportunity to explore my options before making this large decision. Therefore, I ended up at a school that I loved, but in a major I was not enthusiastic about.

Augustine is to receive the education and skills necessary to reach my full potential as a therapist. As a therapist, I not only want to aid patients during their recovery, I also want to provide them with insight into the importance of living a physical and healthy lifestyle. I feel that this University is best suited for that by providing a program that is strongly focused on hands on practice and patient interaction early on. I understand that the profession is an incredibly demanding one; providing patients with individualized recovery programs specialized to their needs while completing all the necessary paperwork can be a challenge, but it is definitely one I look forward …show more content…

While I recognize that this vision may alter once I begin school, I currently feel that this would be a suitable place for me since I thrive in busy environments, and delight in working with patients of all ages. I have a strong passion for improving quality of life for individuals and preventing injury. Weak supporting muscles in addition to improper form cause countless injuries in sports as well as everyday life. Throughout my education, I intend to learn the best techniques for strengthening these muscles so I will be able to provide patients with thorough programs that encourage them to thrive.
To me, physical therapy allows passion for an active lifestyle and medical science to come together to create a profession that facilitates treatment of patients with their hobbies and activities of daily living in mind. There have been several times when friends of mine have visited a doctor for a pain only to be told to stop doing the physical activity that caused it. As a physical therapist, I will be able to help individuals progress back to doing what they love, and live the life that they want to live; full of activities, movement, and motivation to be the best that they can
