How Bad Can It Be?
Caesar Barber, a man who has gained 100 pounds from just fast food restaurants around the world like Burger King, McDonalds, KFC, and Wendy's. In New York City, after gaining the weight, he had a heart attack at the age of 56. He has been eating for years thinking it was healthy for him. After about 210 meals in 1 year, he sued Fast Food places for not labeling their food that it will make him stout. Well, is it his fault or the fast food’s fault? I think that it is fast foods fault.
One reason I think it’s the fast food’s fault is that they don’t use real meat. Most fast food that serves meat is only 36% real meat. That means you really don’t know what you’re eating. There were rumors you were eating pink slime! Ewwww it’s even disgusting to think about. Places like Taco Bell, Burger King, and McDonalds lie about ingredients. That is exactly why they don’t label what there food is made of.
Another reason that

Kids are starting to There are so many kids that has gotten obese after eating at fast food places. Luckily, most have lost the pounds but, some have kept the pounds. A 4 piece chicken nugget from McDonalds is 64 grams! I don’t think kids should be that fat and it will start making kids stout like a pig! Sadly, this is happen more in the United States. If this keeps happening in the U.S 30% of kids born will be born fat. Kids don’t deserve that. On the McDonalds menu they have 169 meals. Thats a lot…. They try to make there customers order more than they need.
If you think that having 5 meals a week is bad your correct. I think fast food places should start cooking real meat and that Caesar Barber is right! I think that fast food places should have real food, labels warning that it is fattening, and stop serving so much, it’s starting kid obesity. Hopefully they some laws to stop fast food! And maybe this world will be as healthy as it used to
In "Don't Blame the Eater," David Zinczenko responds to arguments that overweight people are to blame for their health problems. However, Zinczenko forgets to mention that fast food joints fail to uphold their responsibilities of providing healthy and nutritious foods to the public. In other words, they merely only care about making money and by doing so they make cheap, unhealthy products and sell them at reasonably low prices. Furthermore, this leads to more and more people purchasing their foods and an increase in health problems. While fast food places do a splendid job in advertising their foods using the words "juicy" and "delicious", they fail to show their consumers just how unhealthy their products actually are. Many people, such
I understand a working parent has barely enough time to watch over every little detail in the kids life, but an effort should be made not only by the parent, but also by the fast-foods to take at least some of the responsibility for making schoolchildren, and not to mention Americans in general, overweight. Advertisement towards children should be to promote healthy eating, which it currently is, however not so much back in 2003 where, according to David Barboza's article “If You Pitch It, They Will Eat”, “Product tie-ins are everywhere.” This holds true to this day, McDonalds has toys with their happy meals from two popular kids shows. Power Rangers and My Little Pony, which appeal to young boys and girls who know of or watch the show. It is a marketing strategy, the kids see the toys and watch the show, which in turn makes them want the toys, making them want to watch the shows. Continuing in an endless loop that only benefits the shows and most of all the fast-food companies like McDonalds.
In today’s society a huge issue is that we constantly hear about the food industry in America. We often hear in the news that obesity rates have increased, or that Americans have many diseases that contribute to being obese. “What You Eat is Your Business” by Radley Balko expresses that people are at fault for making such unhealthy food choices. Others argue that the food industry is to blame for being so unhealthy. According to David Zinczenko in “Don’t Blame the Eater” he blames the fast food industry as well as the consumer. Zinczenko asks “shouldn’t we know better than to eat two meals a day in fast food restaurant’s?” (392). So, who is to blame for American’s eating so much unhealthy food? Should it be the consumers’ burden or the fast food companies? On one hand, as consumers we continue to purchase foods that we know are making us overweight. On the other hand, fast food companies continue to offer high in calories foods.
Even though some advertisements stimulate our appetite, those advertisements don't say that their fast food is healthy. Moreover, it has been often said that fast food has bad effects for our health, through newspaper, television, and other media. Most people should know these facts. To add to that, as I mentioned before, there are some fast food shops which serve health foods compared to other fast food shops, so if people are really concerned about their health, they can choose those fast food shops. Therefore, the problem should be attributed not to the fast food companies, but to individual choice.
Another factor to add in is that many people don’t just eat at McDonalds once a day, but multiple times a day and when their meals are supersized…unneeded calories just keep piling up and eventually those calories will turn into pounds, but now the supersize option isn’t called super-size its referred to as a large. Let’s take into consideration how many children eat at McDonald’s every day. One out of three American Children and teens eat fast food every day and considering the amount of McDonalds in the country, I’m sure you can guess how many are eating at McDonalds. Sure, maybe three people have eaten at McDonalds three times a day and lost weight, but it doesn’t matter where you eat, it matters what you eat. What’s your average children’s meal? Some deep-fried pieces of processed chicken or a grease soaked piece of beef? Some potatoes covered in chemicals that sit in a football field stadium for weeks before being cut up, partially deep fried, covered in chemicals that keeps them from becoming gray, covered in some more chemicals, frozen, unfrozen and then deep fried
Parents should be able to control what their child eats and what they do with their free time. If you see that your children only eat chips, candy, or fast food and sit in front of the television, then you need to stop trying to blame McDonald’s for your kids obesity and do something about it to get them healthy again. Start cooking healthy meals for lunch and dinner, limit how many times
They also offer a false sense of control. You appear to have many choices - a Big Mac, a cheeseburger, a quarter pounder, a double quarter pounder or a "Big 'N' Tasty" - but they're all pre-packaged, frozen, pre-cooked hamburger. If you want to be radical, have fried chicken, fried fish pieces, even flatbread sandwiches. But you have no control over portion size, or the way your meal is cooked. One of the ways we learn who we are is by the choices we make. Americans let this happen. Now fast-food corporations are infiltrating our public schools, in the form of funds in exchange for advertising. The deliberate marketing soft drink and fast-food companies direct at the youngest of children is wrong. It seem that Americans have just become so used to the fact that McDonalds is always there for when they are running late and do not have time to fix dinner. Or to calm their children down if they are acting up. Fast food industries make it so easy for people to be lazy. The number of obese adults and children in America has risen directly alongside the increase of fast-food restaurants and has extracted high personal, physical, and financial cost to the nation. In the end Americans are like guinea pigs for the fast food industries, being used to see what they can do and how far they can go.
David Zinczenko introduced the concept in his article, "Don't Blame the Eater." He states that many frequent eaters of fast food are beginning to sue the franchise because they are now considered obese due to the fast food restaurant. Fast food industries are serving food high in calorie, cholesterol, and trans fat. They do giving the customer an option of eating healthy. David Zinczenko is correct in stating that fast food industries try to cover up the dangers of their food. It is hard to comprehend or even find a calorie chart in the restaurant. In their advertisements they shy away from the dangers of their food. However, placing a lawsuit on the company may be a little
As the Author of Obesity in America (Down to Earth) has noted," Our children are being bombarded from every angle with these toxic foods making it virtually impossible for them to eat anything else". Children are being seduced to this food choice, which potentially affects their eating habits in the long term; Not different from adults who are attracted to whatever is fast and recognized to taste good, then it will become a habit to eat it on a daily basis. Unfortunately, people are not having a real set of options, that is being advertised besides that big double meat burger. Food Industries use their obviously increasing consumer rates and Super-Size the product, which adulterates the person eating habits. By making it appear normal to eat an entire buffet, or just simply eating more than they are supposed to. Murray writes " McDonald's has made super-size is a verb", so what does actually makes attractive from the phrase "Super-Size it", if is really up to the consumer choice, why to keep advertising the same unhealthy product over and over, but in actual date in a bigger portion, the consumer keeps choosing the most displayed option, because that is what is being advertised, that is all the consumer knows. The unhealthy environment provided is to keep
Fast food might be easy and cheap but people do not realize how harmful the food is for their bodies. The problem is the food that is served at these types of restaurants, especially McDonalds, are high in fat, salt, processed, and can have harmful ingredients included in the food. While home cooked food takes time to plan and make people know what they are eating, that isn’t the case at McDonalds: “McDonald’s burgers retain its fresh appearance for a very long time. This can easily fool customers who do not have a hint of this alteration in their burgers. The use of excessive preservatives is harmful for your health which McDonalds seems to overlook for gaining more and more
Food industries trick he/she into buying their food by using words that sound healthier. Words like ''natural'' sound better, but natural is still a chemical made in a lab. Fast foods are not completely honest with the ingredients they use. We eat foods that say fat-free but fat hasn't been the problem with weight gain; it is sugar. Food Industries use more sugar or sweetener to make food taste better when they remove fat. The fat-free product causes the consumer to eat more because he or she may think it is ok too, but it is far worse to eat. Eating so much sugar can lead to high blood pressure and more health problems. The dangers of fast food can lead to significant weight gain, health problems, and more money spendings.
The main point of fast food is to be fast, easy, and convenient- but sometimes we humans abuse of that option that was given to us. Yes, its true fast food is everywhere in every corner but we cannot blame the food chains for our decisions. Obesity is like a monster and we are feeding it, we stop on every school or work break to snack on some McDonalds, Wing Stop, and other fast restaurants that are in our path, the only issue with is that we consume it on a daily basis making it our routine and we end up putting our health at risk. A survey made by the college of agriculture, consumer and environmental science assures that 94 percent of people believed individuals are primarily or somewhat
When a child eats a Happy Meal at McDonalds they’re eating 520 calories per meal with a cheeseburger clocking in at 700 calories. Fast foods are convenient, easy and affordable; so fewer families are preparing meals at home. Fast foods are lacking nutritional balance and there is not any control on how it’s cooked, which is usually with a lot of oil and butter. Fast foods tend to lack fresh fruits and vegetables. Children need to know the consequences in eating foods high in calories, fats, sugar and chemicals. Children should avoid cholesterol, saturated fat, high sodium which is harmful to the immune system and can lead to Type II diabetes.
A study of The Annals of Internal Medicine indicates that more than 70% of men and more than 60% of women have extra pounds because of the consumption of fast food in large amounts. In kids the problem gets more extreme. If kids consume too much fast food they could have high cholesterol and obesity, then they would have higher risks of cardiovascular issues, diabetes and heart diseases. Parents should prevent those kinds of health issues in their kids because it will be reflected in them as adults.
There is a man that’s as big as a bear and doesn’t even take care of himself. Instead he is blaming the fast food companies for him being obese. This man’s name is Caesar Barber and he eats 4-5 meals weekly at McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, and KFC. Now Barber is suing those places after from weighing 300 pounds, and had a heart attack! I think this is Caesar Barbers fault for his weight.
