Each of us possess personal characteristic strengths that makes each of us unique. As individuals these strengths allow us to add value to all of our relationships both personally and professionally. For many of us, we can recognize the characteristics and how they add value to lives, unfortunately though many of us will struggle voicing these strengths openly during job interviews, performance evaluations, or team meetings. One of the first challenges is to understand that we are all lifelong learners and it is through these experiences that we develop these strengths which allows us to become an essential part of a relationship whether it is a personal or professional relationship. As within the realm of a Human Resource Professional the ability to recognize these strengths in people we must also recognize them within ourselves so that we may leverage those skills to advocate for both the employee and the organization. Throughout my life, my strengths have tended to gain more clarity and centered on my profession because form many of the majority of our time is spent there. Some of my personal characteristics that will bring value and strength to any organization are: organization, communication, the ability to be discrete and ethical, conflict management/problem solving and change management. I believe it is important to work in an environment that motivates and encourages others to perform to the best of their ability. Human Resources professionals are in the position to influence others in this exact way. It brings me a great deal of gratification to make a difference in an organization and its employees in the workplace. My interest in this field has originated from my past and current work experiences. I have mirrored similar qualities that are required as a Human Resources Manager. Once the HRD's position is explained and described, the next step is recruitment procedure. Recruitment procedures can be defined as the most suitable candidates for a vacant in that position (Farnham & Stevens, 2000). Hire a right people is crucial and difficult; therefore, the accurate methods of recruitment will attract the most suitable candidates to HRD position (Froschheiser, 2008).
The ability of a person to work well with team members is the foundation of any good work environment. Understanding one’s role as a member of a team, and then using that role to enable the team to be productive is of great importance. In our Career Development class, we were also provided with a spreadsheet with data on the strengths of every person in our class. This in combination with the Strengths Finder 2.0 book will really help me improve my ability to work effectively in a team. By looking at the descriptions of the strengths of other members of my team members and how the book describes ways to work effectively with individuals with those strengths, I think I will be better able to work with my team without conflict and effectively using everyone’s strengths so that our end result is the best result.
The determined that my top five strengths were the following: Achiever, Responsibility, Arranger and Ideation. I agree with the finding of this assessment. However, I was shocked to learn that none of my top five traits dealt with relationship building. As I reviewed the finding of this, I acknowledge the fact the traits the system described of me, is very accurate. In fact, I believe that I attribute my personal success to the accomplishments of others. As a recruitment manager, I am responsible for the goal attainment of my recruiters. I personally, take pride in my ability to develop each of the recruiter’s skill sets, so that they all able to efficiently do their jobs (Achiever). Additionally, employees often ask for my opinion on how to deal with specific issues due vast knowledge in a specific subject. For example: From 2010-2012, I managed an advertisement department while living in Raleigh NC. While managing this department, I assisted out advertising department in reducing our overall costs associated with our advertisement campaigns, as well as, increased our overall market penetration by recommending changes to how we advertised. By the end of Fiscal year 2012, our company obtained outstanding results (Ideation)!
