Bullying is a nationwide issue that affects many people in different ways. "Bullying" is a widespread fact which

consists of physical, verbal and social damage to a feeble one". (Gokler, 511). People who are bullied become victims

and the consequences of being bullied are not the greatest. Bullying affects people in many different ways including

depression, low self esteem and suicide.

To begin with, one affect of bullying is depression. Depression is a mood disorder which causes severe sadness

and loss of interest. "Many studies have demonstrated a concurrent association between involvement in bullying and

People who have fell short to being bullied often keep

to themselves and are extremely sad all the time. Depression can get so bad that it will eventually lead to other

unhealthy consequences. If depression gets so bad victims could be diagnosed with clinical depression. Clinical

depression is more severe than depression and could interfere with everyday life for weeks or more. It also affects the

victims appetite, sleep pattern, and other various activities that a person would usually do everyday.

Secondly, bullying affects people to the point where they develop low self esteem. There is a link between

bullying and low self esteem. "Previous research on traditional bullying among adolescents has found a relatively

consistent link between victimization and lower self-esteem". (Patchin, 614). Weight, race, looks, speech, etc are things

that victims are bullied about and can cause low self esteem. Having low self esteem makes a person feel unworthy,

incapable and incompetent. For an example, cyberbullying is where a person is bullied through electronic

communication such as the Internet or text messaging. "Students who experienced cyberbullying, both as a victim
