Bullying
While doing research on bullying, I found studies on subject like cyber bullying, physical bullying, and verbal bullying. Bullying is a big problem now and has been in our society for some time. What is disturbing is that school is supposed to be a place where students learn and try to get away from outside problems but sadly some see it as a battlefield or place of survival. According to Webster 's Dictionary, a bully is someone who is "habitually cruel, insulting, or threatening to others who are weaker, smaller, or in some way vulnerable". There are different factors that may affect a person 's behavior it may be caused by their environment, history, and/ or other

Sometimes groups of young adults will target and alienate a peer because of some adolescent prejudice. This can quickly lead to a situation where they are being taunted, tortured, and beaten-up by their fellow classmates. Regardless of how young or old a person is, there is always a chance that someone could harass or abuse them. Sometimes with children, bullying happens away from home, but physical bullying can also take place in the home. Physical bullying can have a tragic ending and therefore must be stopped quickly.
The next type is cyber bullying which is currently the most common form of bullying in our generation. Cyberbullying is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person. Examples of cyberbullying include sending hurtful texts or instant messages, posting embarrassing photos or video on social media, and spreading mean rumors online or with cell phones. With all this new technology and social media apps bullying has occurred a lot more.
The last common type of bullying is verbal. Verbal bullying is the use of words in a negative way such as insults, teasing, put downs, etc. Many times verbal bullying goes unnoticed, for example, when you make a joke about a friend they may get offended. There are definitely many more types of bullying that occurs but more importantly why does it occur?
There are a variety of reasons why bullying occurs. Victims are usually targeted because of their
Over the years bullying has been used as an attack mechanism to bring fear upon an individual. Bullying has been described in so many ways such as attacking someone mentally, physically, or emotionally (The Bullies page 17). It has been used to abuse power, psychological, behavior, or physical (The Bullies page 18). Every seven minutes a child or teen is bullied. Bullying is like a disease it comes in many shapes and sizes, and it can spread really easy. Bullying also comes in many different ways such as physical, verbally, and socially. Bullying is the use of superior strength or influence to intimidate someone, typically to force him or she to do what one wants. Across the U.S over 3.2 million students are victims due to bullying and 4,400
Bullying is a very touchy subject for people to talk about. It deals with a lot of mental, physical, and emotional damage. Bullying is violent and unwelcoming behavior among various different aged children in school that involves a lack of power for one kid and a lot of power for another. The behavior of a bully is repeated numerous times over time and becomes more aggressive as the path goes on. The bully has an imbalance of power over the one being bullied. They bully uses their power for giving out embarrassing information, control, physical strength, popularity, and harming others. Kids who are being bullied and bullying others have serious lasting problems throughout their lifetime. Bullying is becoming a major issue in today 's society and somebody needs to make a stop to it.
Many victims of bullying have similar characteristics. For example, shy, quiet, or physically small individuals or those who lack a group of friends are often targets of bullies. A person’s race, sexuality, or physical appearance may also attract bullying or teasing. Bullies often seek
According to the American Psychological Association, “Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior in which someone intentionally and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. Bullying can take the form of physical contact, words or more subtle actions” (Bullying, 2013). People bully each other for several reasons and there are different outcomes that are a result of those reasons. People can be bullied physically, emotionally, or verbally. Bullying can take place at school or online. Bullying should be a considered a crime, but kids get away with it all the time; furthermore prevention can be used in order to keep kids safe from bullying.
The issue of bullying may seem insignificant and petty, but the truth is we are conditioned to ignore it. The fear of being the next victim has caused many to lose sight of their moral compass when it comes to defending one another or standing up for what is right. Instead we cower and turn our attention to giving way to the biggest and loudest voice. Most people are prone to neglect the fact someone is being bullied, because once again they fear becoming the next victim. School bullying is a problem found all across the United States and around the world. It can take many forms, including physical violence, psychological bullying, name-calling, taunting, teasing, and social exclusion. Bullying was once thought of as a normal
Bullying is a serious problem found in schools in the United States, and it cause of approximately 4,400 deaths each year. Bullying is a repeated unwanted aggression between individuals causing an imbalance in power and control of the situation. It can occur in every school, whether it might be done physically, socially or verbally. Examples of physical bullying would be getting punched, kicked or even slapped. Social bullying can occur when being excluded purposely from a group or posting of private pictures or videos. Verbal bullying can happen when being called a name or a rumor being spread about a person that is not true. Researchers are discovering the long-term effects bullying has on everyone. They are studying what happens to the bullies and their targets as they get older. The effects of an individual incidents may not seem bad, but as you look incidents that happen as a whole, you start to see that bullying not only affects the person being bullied, but the people close to them. Bullying continues to be recognized as a serious problem in our schools. Without bullying prevention programs being taught bullying will continue to affect everyone.
With school-aged children, bullying more frequently happens while they are at school, or afterward when the students are not being supervised by their teacher in places like the cafeteria, bus, lockers, playground or neighborhood. Now that kids have access to online technology, bullying can also happen on the internet. With this in mind, teachers must now research and understand what bullying is, and develop methods to help fight against bullying. Bullying is the aggressive, unwanted behavior that occurs between kids of all ages. Children that bully are using the power they believe they have over other kids to try to control and harm them. Bullying can happen via verbal, social, or physical abuses, such as name-calling, threats, spreading rumors, isolation, embarrassment, spitting, hitting, destroying personal things, etc. In order to be considered bullying, these bad behaviors are repeated over time.
Bullying has some clear-cut causes and effects on individuals by the accuser. There are many reasons why victims are being targeted. The first cause is the revenge or authority for themselves through bullying. The accuser might have had a difficult lifestyle at home with parents fighting and arguing which lead to abuse or divorce. They might just be jealousy or frustrated toward the victim. Perhaps having inadequate understanding and lack of empathy towards the individual or the urge for attention. Undoubtedly, the use of physical violence on their victim to maintain control of their victim is a more serious and has a longer lasting outcomes of emotional disorder. Finally, in most cases, individuals bully others to gain acceptance from their peers or
All around the world, many people today are bullied, and mistreated by others. There is not much of a definite reasoning to why one bullies, and puts other people down, but there are speculations to this problem. Many causes to why people bully one another is because the bully has insecurities of their own, they are jealous of their victim, family problems arise, and they like having the power that bullying has on others.
There are several types of bullying and I want to acknowledge all of them to clear up any misunderstandings. The first type of bullying I want to address is Physical. This is any bullying that hurts someone’s body or damages their possessions. A few examples include stealing, shoving, hitting, fighting, and destroying. The second type is Verbal. Verbal bullying is a means of using words in a negative way such as insults, teasing, put downs, etc. Third form of bullying involves hurting someone’s reputation or relationships like leaving someone out purposely, telling others not to be friends with them, and spreading rumors. The final act of bulling is Cyber, which is the biggest and most common. Cyber bullying takes place using electronic technology including cell phones, computers, and tablets. The sites of the bullying are social media, text messages, chat, and websites.
Many kids all around the world are abused by their parents, peers or even by complete strangers. One of these types of abuse is bullying. At a first glance, we might think that it is an older kid beating/teasing a younger classmate however; bullying consists of much more than this. The basic definition of bullying is when your behavior hurts or harms another person physically or emotionally. There are many different types of bullying, which may lead to a victim becoming violent later on. There is teasing and name calling, there is also picking and shoving the kid. However, the most extreme one would be beating up the child, hurting them physically and mainly, emotionally.
One of the reasons why someone bullies another person, is that the bully feels left out or feels lonely. In their mind, they decide to pick on another person to make them feel they way they feel. Sometimes, the bully may not get enough attention at home, as compensation they bully someone to fill that void. Another reason could be that someone bullied at home by a sibling or family member or even a friend. As an outlet, they choose to bully another person. The last reason being that the person has a past of bullying so they feel that they should “live up” to their
What appears to be bullying is not always bullying. There is this misconception that when someone disagrees with another person or is hurtful towards that person, bullying always seems to be what they say is going on. Although statistics shows that one in four kids are bullied, all aggressive actions are not bullying. If a person has self-esteem and self confidence in themselves and not let others tear you down the imbalance of power is balanced. Bullies have more power over their victims and always want to be on top. They enjoy displaying the power they have over their victim.
Bullying in schools was perceived to be a normal part of adolescent, however, when people begin to have this mentality, they forget that bullying is physically and psychologically harmful to both the bully and the victim.
In this world we see a constant issue of bullying it is an everyday issue that affects a lot of victims each day. Bullying causes many illness and disorders which can lead to many issues.
