The person I picked to be my most influential person in leadership is Bryan Galindo. Mr. Galindo is an upcoming senior at University of Houston. His family is originally from Mexico; Mr. Galindo chose UH in order to pursue his Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics. Now, Mr. Galindo is holding an executive position in an Asian American fraternity. As a first generation Mexican American, Mr. Galindo really thrived to empower the multicultural community on his campus. Mr. Galindo is one of the greatest and most accomplished treasurers for University of Houston’s Lambda Phi Epsilon Pi chapter founded back in 1993. Now you may ask me why I picked Mr. Galindo, I picked Mr. Galindo because there are plenty of Hispanic American organizations on campus …show more content…
Galindo is from the crossing class of Fall 2013 for the Houston chapter of his fraternity. Ever since he crossed, he has accumulated tremendous experiences in training new members, new actives, and even alumni in being better leaders among men. With new members, Mr. Galindo is stern and fair. He values respect the most and believes that new members need to understand the meaning of respect before they can become full-pledged brothers and also before he can call them brothers. Mr. Galindo instills the value of respect through positive reinforcement and empathy. When tasks become difficult for new members, he encourages them and cheers them on, reminding them that there are rewarding futures to overcoming these present obstacles. New members over time become really respectful and admire Mr. Galindo’s …show more content…
He leads with the foundations of business skills and interpersonal skills. He gives his brothers, his new brothers, and everyone else around him room to grow. He accepts their ideas. His areas of expertise are coaching and change management. The way he leads helps the whole organization reach a desired state as well as inspire individuals to have goals. Mr. Galindo believes in turning the people around him into leaders because they should not be another face in the
The first value that the resolute men of Theta Chi Fraternity pride themselves on is by the value of True Friendship and Brotherhood. Brotherhood is “having somebody that will not let you fail” (UC Theta Chi Rush Fall 2016). It “is having someone to talk to, someone to go to. Having people around to motivate you and push you to be better” (UC Theta Chi Rush Fall 2016). Brotherhood is defined by “a group of guys, that come from different areas and different backgrounds. And we mold it all together into one cohesive group” (UC Theta Chi Rush Fall 2016). Friendship and Brotherhood are key values in Theta Chi fraternity because it allows there to be a special relationship between the members of the fraternity. When some men come to college they
Sophie Biyoya Ciardulli is the main character in the book, “Endangered”, by Eliot Schrefer. She is the daughter of Florence Biyoya, who is Congolese, and an Italian-American dad. Her mother had always thought of protecting bonobos as her top duty in life, so it was no surprise when she chose staying in Congo to develop her bonobo sanctuary rather than returning to the U.S. with her husband and daughter, after Sophie’s dad is transferred to Miami, Florida by his company for a job. Sophie attends school in America, but spends summers with her mother. Sophie had always been angry and hurt by the fact that her mother was the reason her parents divorced, but when she meets Otto, she transitions slowly in opinion and grows in acceptance of her mother’s
We all change whether good or bad. It is in us to make decisions that shape the way we act towards everyday occurrences. In this cases Chris Theodorakis changed immensely. Chris went from a unconfident recluse to an outgoing professor. This just shows how fast you can change to become a better person for yourself.
Jimmy knows too well the agonies of abandonment. First, when his mother, Cecilia, ran away with Richard to pursue a better lifestyle. Then, due to his father’s, Damacio Baca, alcoholisms and violent behavior; he also had to leave Jimmy behind. In spite of the drawbacks from abandonment to being a maximum security prisoner in Arizona State Prison, Jimmy preserver’s the darkness of prison by overcoming his illiteracy. However Cecilia and Damacio is not as fortunate as their child; Cecilia is shot by Richard after confronting him for a divorce and Damacio chokes to death after he is released from the detox center(Baca 263). Therefore the most significant event in this section of the memoir, A Place to Stand by Jimmy Santiago Baca is the death of Jimmy’s parents.
Arthur Bauer was hanging out with his friend Erik Fisher. He knew that he would be unpopular if he did not obey Erik. Recently, Arthur even killed a man named Luiz Cruz. He always hated to carry out these evil plans, but he felt forced to do it to protect his status. The first thing that Erik got Arthur to do was to make fun of the death of his old friend, Mike Costello. “Ha! Do you remember the picture of his face! Priceless!” Erik laughed. “Pretty soon we’ll get to see the close up!”
As many of you know, this October the Hispanic Scholarship Fund will be announcing this year’s inductee to their noteworthy Alumni Hall of Fame. Founded over 70 years ago, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund has done exceedingly well to provide the bright, young Latino scholars of our nation with an opportunity to seek higher education through scholarships and various programs. At the Alumni Hall of Fame Gala we will celebrate three scholarship recipients as well as a single inductee. While each individual being recognized at the Gala has proven to be extraordinary, there is one in particular you should look out for. However, having had such a massive impact in places all over the world, you may have already guessed who this dazzling woman is:
My name is Jacob Dube and I currently serve as the President of the Florida Chapter of Delta Chi here at the University of Florida. In 1776, you all made a decision that would forever change the course of college history at the College of William and Mary and many other universities nationwide as you created the first American collegiate fraternity. I cannot express my gratitude for you as you all paved the way for the Greek system in a college and university setting. The Greek experience is one of a kind to all of its members, and it has helped produce some of the most successful people in our country. I would like to share to you some great news about today’s Greek systems here at the University of Florida and how you helped shape the success of so many Greek students.
Pursuing the dream of obtaining membership into the First Intercollegiate Greek Fraternity for African Americans, Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. is one of very few ultimate goals in my life. An organization that was founded to stimulate the ambitions of its members and prepare them for great usefulness within the community has since become one of the most well respected organizations in America. Over one hundred years later, the pivotal movement in 1906 has spread to over the entire country in different collegiate chapters and cities across America and the impact has been tremendous. To some individuals, I was considered very lucky to be reared in the upbringing I experienced. But in my eyes it was a double edged sword.
Having Jeison as a hero for kids with their own disabilities is very rare, knowing they have someone to relate to can give them hope. When Jeison was in the adult life he wanted others to know the values that disabled kids have just the same as any other kids.(crowdrise.com) Changing perspectives, organizing a facility for kids with disabilities, all while living with a disability himself shows how Jeison Aristazabal characteristics fit a hero’s personality.
Men of Alpha Phi Alpha such as James Felton and Vaun Davis are key to why I want to pursue my aspirations of someday becoming a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity incorporated. Both James and Vaun’s unselfishness has allowed me to grow as a leader and also into a man. These role models have opened numerous doors for me that have resulted into various benefits and opportunities. I hope my encounters with great Alpha Men such as James Felton and Vaun Davis will allow me the opportunity of joining the highly respected brotherhood. Another abundant encounter that I have experienced with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, is the true meaning and display of brotherhood. For years I have watched the interactions and connections of men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated I have noticed that each member that I have encountered expresses and implements the true meaning of brotherhood. I profoundly believe in the bond of brotherhood and fraternity. In my belief, if granted the chance to uphold the unbreakable bond such as the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the bond would enhance my credentials while assisting and challenging others. The brotherhood would push me to

I’ve taken the lessons I’ve learned whether they were explicitly from Xavier and Delvin or from simply observing an Alpha Man with me when I joined my first organization Generation of Educated Men (GEM) a community service based organization where I currently serve as Mr. GEM. No matter how long ago I learned those lessons they still resonate with me just as strong if not stronger, this is shown through my most recent accomplishment of becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity. I am thankful for the guidance that I have received from the Men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated both intentional and unintentional, and if I am perchance selected to start the process of becoming a Man of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated I will continue to remember where I have come from and remember how two men helped me change my life and in turn helping me to make it this far, and how one day I would like to be the Xavier Robinson and Delvin Woodard who helped change the life of a young Tarvaris
In “Miss Brill,” Katherine Mansfield utilizes Miss Brill’s thoughts and actions and the surroundings to characterize Miss Brill as a lonely character. Mansfield immediately introduces Miss Brill with a very odd scene that shows her conversation with the fur coat. This quickly and effectively establishes the type of person Miss Brill is. As a result, Mansfield suggests that Miss Brill is a lonely and an “abnormal” person to illustrate to the audience how society treats those who are not considered “normal” through the later actions of a young couple.
The men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated that I have had the privilege of being in contact with all were noble men and equally important leaders. I have had the privilege of interacting with many men throughout mentoring programs and community service projects and often found that those whom I deeply admire shared the common brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. My undergraduate advisor Dr. Fredrick S. Stephens is one of those men that have had a major impact in my life and induction into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. I come from a family that has strong beliefs in civic engagement. His example and guidance throughout my college experience challenged me to be greater leader and servant of m community. I needed that guidance to enhance my development as a professional social worker and in life.
In order for a leader to be a leader he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able of affirmative influence “on others”.
