. I found Bryan Cox’s answers to be the most interesting because I can relate and connect with him the most as I, as well, plan on living at home and commuting. With all the things he had mentioned such as home-cooked meals and wake-up calls, I feel that there will be more time for me to focus on my studies and less on errands and the duties of living on my own as I will have my family to help me out. Another point that I found interesting from Bryan’s answer was when he said “I don’t necessarily have all the freedom I’d have if I were living on campus.” This answer is interesting to me because usually students would insist to live on campus instead of living at home because they would have more freedom without typical family restrictions such as curfew, going to bed early, …show more content…
a) After hearing from Katherine Bennett, I was surprised when she mentioned that the work from university was not as difficult as teachers at secondary school proclaimed. I find this surprising because I have always been told that post-secondary work load is very overwhelming.
b) Hearing what Bryan Cox has said about the workload for the first year, has greatly reduced my stress level because I was never a big fan of immense amounts of work. Since Bryan mentioned how the work load was manageable and less than expected, this is a great factor as university and college students will still have time for themselves to hang out with their family and friends, meet new people, join clubs, participate in extracurricular activities, volunteer, etc.
c) From the article, I thought that the best advice was from Fahad Malik where he advised to always smile and laugh. According to him, appearing happy and approachable is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. I think making new friends is really important, especially when you are heading into an unfamiliar environment, because you can always turn to your friends for help, advice, moral support, and just to hang out and relieve stress,
Chris McCandless was a hero to many people throughout his life and he was often considered a hero to most. But, a lot of people criticized his errors along the journey. When Chris died, his impact on society was mostly positive, and the people who he met remembered his accomplishments that he has made in their life. His passing let people remember him for what he has done to help others along the way. His mistakes and flaws added up from the first day he started this path of life. Throughout the story, Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless is claimed to be a hero by many of the few he met across his journey to Alaska. However, a
In the novel Into the Wild, author Jon Krakauer writes,“They will think they have bought my respect” (21). In this quote by the protagonist in the novel, Chris McCandless explains that his parents tried to buy his respect and honor with gifts, however they did not understand Chris’s loathe for material goods. His parents did not understand that respect is earned, not bought, and they did not earn his respect. His poor relationship with his parents and his history with rebellion are some of the main causes for why he disappeared from his family, this also explains his narcissism as he only ever had to care for himself. In Into the Wild, Chris Mccandless believes that an individual’s purpose is to be unique and to avoid being conformed by

For my research, I chose the comedian Kevin Hart. I chose Mr. Hart due to the fact that many of his standup comedy acts appeal to me, and are relatable to my life. A lot of comedians create humor at the expense of others, but Kevin Hart tends to keep it centered on his family, and events that have happened in his life. I can relate to the events that he makes light of, and it makes it the humor more appealing to me specifically. Both the fact that his home life, and his physical appearance are the basis of his routines make more sense than some of the other standup comedy acts I have observed.
The book I choice to read was, “Brian’s Winter”, by Gary Paulsen. This book is about Brian after the private plane he was flying in crashes into the rugged forests of Canada. Brian went through many struggles while trying the best he could to survive in the harsh environment. Some of the biggest events in this story include when he is attacked by a bear, during the major storms and some of his questionable encounters with the wolves. If I were telling a friend about the entire story in two minutes I would say, Brian’s parents were divorced, leading him to visit his father for the first time in a long time. He didn’t know what to expect from the trip though, one thing is for sure, he didn’t expect what actually happened to happen. So Brian
Troyal Garth Brooks (also know as Garth Brooks) is the world’s greatest country singer of all time. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 7, 1962. Both of Garths parents were a huge part of making him who he is today. Garth did things that Elvis, and Michael Jackson never even
Moving forward, the pressure of being a student in college is a challenge that turns out to be rewarding and most definitely shaping. Full time university students are
Introduction: Throughout the book of Into The Wild Chris McCandless is known to be a wacko reckless idiot, and is also known to be courageous and heroic. However does a courageous person go out into the wilderness knowing that the outcome will be fatal? People viewed him from different perspectives and also have broad range of opinions of this young man. Some deemed him to be incredibly dim-witted or a man that simply just followed his heart. Evidence shows that Chris McCandless is actually a mix of both. The first opinion that described McCandless was brainless, idiotic, and extremely foolish. Many passages from Into The Wild can support this outlook.
Like many of the questionnaires utilized for research in the articles used for this literature review, it was anonymous, and administered and collected during class. This form of data collection provided high turn in rates allowing researchers to have a wide study scale. According to Hicks, T., & Heastie, S., contrasting levels of stress and coping mechanisms were present in these students. It was noted that traditional college students experience more psychological stress than their nontraditional student counterparts. In addition, during the first year of college, the amount of stress experienced by students is the highest in comparison to stress in the remainder of the years. These results are especially important because it stresses the need for a strong health and wellness center within colleges and universities.
Supriyo Chaudhuri stated that “business gifts are usually seen as advertising, sales promotion and marketing communication medium” to create “a positive, first impression which might help to establish an initial business relationship”. During a purchasing process, gift can be considered either an appreciation or an attempt to influence future buying behavior because it may influence buyer’s perspective and evaluation to the supplier. According to Nina Kaufman, receiving a gift can “hamper your objectivity when either making purchasing decision for your company or recommending the ng products or services to clients”. As for Bryan’s case, he first must identify his company’s policy on accepting gifts and favors to see if accepting the clock is a violation of company’s ethical standards. If a gift is strictly prohibited, Bryan has to return the gift right away. In the case that Bryan could keep the clock, the gift may be a primary factor encouraging him to get involved in business with Mr. James McEnroe’s company despite the fact that this is not the best option for his company, and thus this will still be considered to violate the code of professional conduct. After returning the gift, Bryan should also be open up and talk to his employer about the situation to show his honesty and justice. To his wife Nina, who attaches so much to the clock, Bryan should explain to her clearly why they should return the clock and the consequences if
Stress is unavoidable, no matter the situation, location, or time; stress is always present. Stress is found in higher levels during the duration in which students attend college. It is predictably higher among college students, freshmans in particular, because of the extreme expectations set upon them by their parents and, of course, society. The need to please their parents, longing for success in life, and being able to sustain a reasonable income in the future, all of which falls into the hands of college students who are making critical decisions which may decide the outcome for a large portion of their lives. If these students end up hating their future jobs, the stress of having to go back into college to study for a new career

Generalized anxiety is a problem that the United States faces nationwide. As we grow older and move into educational settings that are more taxing, anxiety becomes more prevalent. Today, college students are facing more stress than ever before. They are constantly pushed to be the best they can be, to be in the most extracurricular activities they can be in, and to attend the best schools possible. All of these goals and high expectations lead students to be harder on themselves, which makes other aspects of their life fall by the wayside, leading to high levels of stress and pressure.
According to Lupien, McEwan, Gunnar, and Heim (2009), going off to college involves significant adjustments to their daily routines; sleeping and eating habits, time-management skills, and stress levels will be altered in one way or another. First-year students have to adjust to the new school environment, different social settings, and new schedules, all without the help and guidance from their parents, who have been there for them for eighteen years. Over 30% of college freshman report that they feel overwhelmed (Klainberg, Ewing, & Ryan, 2010), where some students even opt to work as they juggle their class and work schedules. Some students work at a job or study harder than others, but they are all trying to get degrees so maybe one day they will have meaningful and significant lives. It is a constant struggle for everyone who is trying desperately to make him or herself into a success. And every college student wants to be involved in society in a positive manner, allowing contribution of their ideals and values to others.
Newth (2011) claims that modern day stress seems to be more widespread than ever causing interference with human intellect, emotional and interpersonal functioning. Therefore; I suggest that students will encounter stress and it will impact their academic performance. In this fast pace and performance driven society each organization needs well performing people. The only way we will know what people require to become productive and less stressed is to explore topics as my research question. The topic
