Sophie Biyoya Ciardulli is the main character in the book, “Endangered”, by Eliot Schrefer. She is the daughter of Florence Biyoya, who is Congolese, and an Italian-American dad. Her mother had always thought of protecting bonobos as her top duty in life, so it was no surprise when she chose staying in Congo to develop her bonobo sanctuary rather than returning to the U.S. with her husband and daughter, after Sophie’s dad is transferred to Miami, Florida by his company for a job. In the book Celia Garth, a brown hair, blue eyed, sassy faced twenty-year-old girl named Celia lived independently in Charleston, South Carolina. Her parents died when she was one year-old, from an epidemic that caused havoc on their health. She lived with her aunt and uncle after the epidemic then moved to Charleston to follow her dreams of needlework at Mrs. Thorley’s Sewing Shop. She always wanted to “be somebody” (Bristow 11). Celia is a role model that every young girl should occupy because she is a hardworking, determined, courageous and beautiful inside and out.
Alcohol is the most commonly used addictive substance in the United States. One in every twelve adults suffers from alcohol abuse. In the book The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls Jeannette’s father, Rex, deals with a drinking problem. His drinking problem is one characteristic that makes him crude and un-relatable to the reader. In the novel The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Rex Walls is an unsympathetic character. The reader finds evidence of this in the story through the ways he cannot keep a stable job, his drinking and gambling problem, and how he steals from Jeannette and his children. Rex Walls is a terrible father.

In the story of Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay, one of the main characters that had to endure the Holocaust was Sirka(Sarah). If Sarah or anyone had the capability to rescue her brother Michel it would change the lives of multiple characters. These characters include Sarah herself, Michel, Julia, Edouard, Mame, Zoey, and William.

In the novel, Sarah a ten year old girl is introduced. Sarah lived in Paris during 1942 when Hitler demanded that all Jews be arrested and sent to concentration camps. Most of the Jews had no information on what was going on, especially in France where the French police rounded up all the Jews and brought them to concentration camps. Major conflicts arise in the novel because of character’s lack of knowledge. Sarah’s innocence created her lack of knowledge leading to her brother Michel's death additionally, William’s lack of knowledge created a conflict within himself, and finally

Erin Brockovich is a film from 2000. It is a dramatized version of the life of Erin Brockovich (played by Julia Roberts). Erin is an unemployed single mother of three children desperately in search of a job. In the first scene of the movie she gets into a car accident and gets sued by the doctor responsible for the circumstance. Erin’s lawyer, Edward Masry, is certain he would win the case, but Erin’s unethical behaviour and quick-to-anger personality loses her the case. After the incident in the courtroom, Masry won’t answer her phone calls. This leads to Erin going to his office. Still looking for a job, she successfully forces him to employ her. She is given the job of filing and she gladly accepts to work at the law firm which had previously represented her car accident case resulting in her injuries. During all this, she also meets a new neighbour, George, a motorcyclists who wants to take Erin out on a date.
When reading a story you want to become familiar with the characters and main parts of the novel. Usually, stories have heroes and villains that convert the story to have an interesting plot. Sometimes, these mysterious characters can be hidden deep inside without the reader even knowing. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, a protagonist, Daisy Buchanan, is what we consider to be an alluring villain. According to dictionary.com, alluring means to be “powerfully and mysteriously attractive or fascinating.”
On March second, 1990 in North Little Rock, Arkansas, Brianna Ware (Bri) entered this world. At the age of nine she moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas, where she lived for two years until she moved to Flippin, Arkansas in 2001. Two years later, Bri and her family moved to Hot Springs Village where she attended Jessieville High School. In 2007, at age seventeen, Bri moved into town and received her GED at National Park College. Little did she know that nine short years later she would be a full-time college student and a single mother to her son, Damon. In her spare time, Bri enjoys watching Netflix with her friends, reading, and of course, playing with Damon. Eventually, Bri plans to pursue a career as a high school counselor. Bri manages to balance her time well between making time for hobbies, caring for her family, and working to achieve her ultimate goal of providing a comfortable life for her son through being a successful student and pursuing a career as a high school counselor.
In The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, the Walls family is born and raised throughout the country, never settling down in one place. Rex, Jeannette’s father, is an independent thinker, and a highly intelligent man. He spends every second of his spare time inventing odd contraptions that he hopes will make his family rich. Despite his obvious intellect, Rex struggles profusely with alcoholism, making his goal of maintaining a job, and protecting his family very difficult. Jeannette’s dad is best known for “skedaddling”, when things get too hard in one place, or bill collectors come he takes his family, regardless of what they think or want, away from there. The Great Gatsby is considered to be a great American novel full of hope, deceit, wealth, and love. Daisy Buchanan is a beautiful and charming young woman who can steal a man’s attention through a mere glance. Throughout the novel, she is placed on a pedestal, as if her every wish were Gatsby’s command. Her inner beauty and grace are short-lived, however, as Scott Fitzgerald reveals her materialistic character. Her reprehensible activities lead to devastating consequences that affect the lives of every character. I intend to show that Daisy, careless and self-absorbed, was never worthy of Jay Gatsby’s love, for she was the very cause of his death.
In Daisy Miller, James sets about to study in detail his story’s namesake. What he discovers is the young, beautiful girl is untainted by European prejudices: unlike the male protagonist, Frederick Winterbourne. In the opening scene of his story, James depicts in vivid detail the Swiss landscape of Vevey with its large lake, glittering in the background. There seems in James’s florid description to be a hint of nostalgia for a bygone time, and this is reflected in him comparing and contrasting the numerous tourist hotels that line the lake.
