Brian Robeson, a 13 year old, was just flying over to his Dad’s house when the pilot who he had been sitting next to had a heart attack. He tried to take control of the plane. Luckily, the pilot taught him a little bit on how to fly the plane before he had a heart attack. Brian knew that the plane was going to crash, so he tried to ease it up a little. When he crashed, he realized that he was hundreds of miles away from his mother and where he was supposed to be. He built a shelter and found some berries that he called gut cherries. He gets struck by a tornado and then all of the things he gathered was gone. When he tries to get supplies from the half-sunken airplane in a lagoon near his shelter, his hatchet drops into the lagoon. He goes down
Gary Paulsen’s fictional character Brian Robeson has to survive a plane crash in the Canadian Wilderness in the time period of the 1980’s. Along with the fictional character, the setting that the book takes place in is also fictional. Although the setting is fictional, the Canadian Wilderness is real. Gary Paulsen created the L-shaped lake and the environment around it in his mind. The animals’ features were all created from his pure imagination, which helped make the book even more fascinating. The environment that Brian Robeson survived in formed a great realistic impression, although it was created from its author’s own imagery.
Brian was a 13 year old boy who’s plane crashed in the woods in Canada. It was fall and no one was around to help him. He was left to try to survive. He built a shelter to live in. He constantly had fires going to keep himself warm. He had some survival stuff such as cooking pots, a hunting knife, forks, spoons, a first aid kit, a cap, fishing line, lures, hooks, sinkers and packets of dry food. Brian learned warning signs such as when it was getting cold. He also got warnings that something wasn’t right. One instance of that was when Brian’s rifle stopped working. The warning he got was when he felt a touch on his cheek. That resulted in him learning how to make bows and arrows. He hunted various animals such as rabbits, deer, and mule. To keep wolves away, Brian marked his territory. Living in the woods gave Brian a lot of work to do. Such as when he had to fix his shelter after a bear came to steal some of his food. He had a skunk living next to him who sprayed the bear away. To get food, Brian had to hunt and kill animals. Winter came and Brian’s cloths were ruined. Brian was forced to hint in the snow. It got so cold that when he spit, the salvia bounced on the ground. He celebrated Thanksgiving with ribs from a mule. In the end, he comes to a crude log shelter. Someone was living there. The man, who was living there, took him in and shared some of his food with Brian. Brian is
The story ends with Brian cooking a meal on his fire. When a plane randomly comes and lands on the lake. It turns out Brian left on the emergency transmitter. That attracted the pilot.
At the school Byron gets in trouble all the time. He beats up Larry Dunn for bullying Kenny, He kills a bird by throwing a cookie at it. He is really upset and is crying about that. There parents are frustrated with him. But then one day he comes home with a chemically
That night you jump out a plane you pull your chute but when you wake up and it’s morning and you find you ended up on a tree. a woman is throwing stuff at you.
One of the first things that he runs into his a porcupine that gets into his shelter and priks him. He also runs into a skunk that sprays him. “Stumbling and tripping, he scrambled into the water and slammed his head back and forth trying to wash his eyes” (130) So he builds a nice woven door for his cavern to keep things out. The next disaster that he runs into is that he his don gettin a drink when a moose comes and attacks him. The moose really hurts his ribs and he keeps moving on and gets back to the shelter. Then that same night a tornado comes and takes everything from him and puts him back at square one, with just his hatchet. However the tornado is what basically saves his life because he sees the plane tail and thinks about the survival kit on the inside. He tries and tries to get in and can’t until he bangs his hand off the plane and sees that he can get in by making a hole. He gets in and dives for the survival kit. This is where he almost doesn’t move on he sees the pilot down there only it is basically just a skeleton. He flips out because the fish have been eating him to and he has been eating the fish. He come back then goes back down for the survival kit. If he wouldn’t have gone back down and got it he would have never gotten the emergency transmitter that a local plane gets and comes gets
It all started when we decided to go on a trip to Oahu on a charter plane. We thought it would be fun, that it would be really cool to climb Diamond Head and go to a luau. Oh boy were we wrong. While we were in the plane, Nathan noticed that the wing was on fire. We all grabbed a parachute and we grabbed a rope, hatchet, dinghy, flint, twelve cans of food, sleeping bags, tent, and a water sack. We all jumped out successfully, one after the other. Nathan jumped first and opened his parachute successfully with the dinghy and flint. I did the same with the tent and water sac. But when Roene jumped out with the canned food and sleeping bag and tried to open her parachute it didn’t open! ROENE WAS FALLING FROM THE SKY AND THERE WAS A CHANCE THAT SHE COULD HAVE
After the horrible plane crash, Brian Robeson is now stuck in the Canadian north woods, he didn’t have a lot of survival items with him. The most important items that could be more useful for Brian in the list I made previously are the container, the first aid kit, the insect repellant, the waterproof match and the chlorine dioxide water purification tablets. To start, the container would be a useful item for Brian because he could cook food with it. In chapter 10, Brian finds turtle eggs, and he had to eat them raw since he didn’t have a container to cook the eggs. Furthermore, eating raw eggs is not healthy, it can cause a salmonella infection, therefore the container would increase the chances of having an infection. To continue, a first
The media affects Brian's perception of what a plane crash is like because it makes him feel more confident, but then loses it. In paragraph 1, it says, "Brian had seen searches on the news, seen movies about lost planes. When a plane went down they mounted extensive searches and almost always found the plane within a day or two." This assures Brian of rescue. More reassurance comes later in the paragraph. "The searchers would get government planes and cover both sides of the flight plan filed by the pilot and search until they found him. This ends when, in paragraph 8, the text says, "What do they do in the movies when they got stranded like this? Oh, yes, the hero usually found some kind of plant that he knew was good to eat and that took
Brian Robeson had many different skills, talents, and personality traits that contributed to his survival in the Canadian wilderness. A skill that Brian showed was that he was able to hunt, build things, and use his strength. One talent that he showed was that he was able to hold his breath for a long time. Two personality traits that he showed was that he is very smart and can remember things well. Brian is a 13 year old boy who was trapped in the Canadian wilderness. He used his skills, talents, and personality traits to help him survive.
Imagine being stuck in the wild, on the verge of dying from either starvation or freezing to death. There are not enough resources, not enough food, all you have left is to hope. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, is a story written of a man named Chris McCandless who overall did not like his life. He thought society corrupted his dreams that he previously set, and he wanted to get away from all of societies norms. Chris wanted to achieve his dream, he wanted a “thrill” in his life, so, Chris decided to go out into the wild and be a free man. In the process he left behind his family who worried everyday having no notion of his whereabouts. Chris was without a doubt , a very controversial/confusing person. People who have heard his story have reason to believe that he was a foolish, stupid kid who got lost into the wild and got himself killed. However, due to Chris' grit, his ability to look deep inside himself to bring out the real him, and his love of nature are all exceptional. Chris' journey into the threatening Alaskan wilderness was not one of stupidity, but one of self determination and courageousness.
Flight is a novel by Sherman Alexie that tell the story of a distressed Native American teenage boy, who has sadly stretched his breaking point after years of ill-treatment at the hands of adults, named Michael but prefers to be called Zits, “Call me Zits. Everybody calls me Zits. That is not my real name, of course. My real name is not important.” (Zits, p.1). Zits was left to his own devices at the age of six when his mother died of breast cancer and his father did not stick around much after he was born and left him. “I get into arguments and fistfights with everybody. I get so angry that I go blind and deaf and mute” (Zits, p.8)Zits is a violent person and takes out his anger on anyone because he has been in and out of the foster care system, none of which felt like family, with foster parents who only cared about the government cheque. He feels left out from the rest of the society mostly because of his half-Indian heritage and his abuse. Because of this, he is easily persuaded into committing crimes.

When I stepped into the large neatly organized white polished plane, I never though something would go wrong. I woke up and found myself on an extremely hot bright sunny desert island filled with shiny soft bright green palm trees containing rough bright yellow hard felt juicy apples. The simple strong plane I was in earlier shattered into little pieces of broken glass and metal when crashing onto the wet slimy coffee colored sand and burning with red orange colored flames. After my realization to this heart throbbing incident I began to run pressing my eight inch footsteps into the wet squishy slimy light brown sand looking in every direction with my wide open eyes filled with confusion in search of other survivors. After finding four
