Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women after lung cancer. In the United States it has been estimated that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer (DeSantis, Ma, Bryan, & Jemal, 2014). Breast Cancer is a common type of breast cancer which we still see diagnosed today. In recent years, breast cancer has accounted for nearly 1 in 3 newly diagnosed cancers in women, exceeding the combined estimated incidence of lung cancer and colorectal cancer in 2003. It is the second leading cause of death from cancer among women, with an estimated 39,800 deaths in 2003, nearly 1 in 6 cancer deaths (Bassett, Jackson, and Fu 2005, 343). On average, a woman dying of breast cancer has lost 18.6 years of life that she might have had if she had if she had not been diagnosed with the disease (Bassett, Jackson, and Fu 2005, 343). An analysis of cancer mortality in 15 industrialized countries conducted in 1992 found that the breast cancer mortality rate was increasing in all regions and in most age-specific groups. In most countries, the greatest percentage increase of deaths was observed among women aged 65 to 74 years of age (Bassett, Jackson, and Fu 2005, 343).
