Boy Scout Promises

One major controversy in effect today is whether girls should be allowed to join the Boy Scouts of America or should there be a distinct separation between the girls and boys. In the article, “Boy Scouts Face Renewed Push to Let Girls Join the Ranks” by David Crary, several girls across the nation have took it upon themselves to try and join the Boy Scouts of America. Some believe that girls should be able to join in order to gain the same scouting experience as the boys in the organization. Others including myself, believe that if the girl scouts aren’t happy with their scouting, they should take the initiative to make a difference in their own community.

As a family man myself, I plan to be very involved in the life of my children and the entire family. Raised in a Christian household, I plan on raising no different than that mind set. Starting in scouts as a Tiger Cub, and developing my scouting career, I plan to stay active and close with the program. I do believe that this is an amazing program that offers many beneficial and necessary life skills. Scouting has set me up for nothing but success and has taught me many life lessons and very useful practices. Responsibility, leadership and organization are the things I have learned most through scouting. These three traits will be carried throughout my life as I plan to seek my ambitions and dreams through the navy and be helpful whenever they are needed most. I grew up in a home where my parents taught us to serve our country, community and those around us. They taught me through example, my father was a scout leader when I was a child. He often took me camping and to merit badge Pow Wow’s. As a boy I began to dream about becoming a boy scout. When I became old enough I joined the cub scouts. While in Cub scouts I learned about being part of the pack, about working together to accomplish large projects, to work together to accomplish a larger goal. Then when I was older I was able to join the boy scouts they taught me about being a citizen in the community, about being a good neighbor. They taught me about doing a good turn daily, and being prepared. When I was 13, I became a life scout. Being a life scout is not anything special, other than I was able to start working on my eagle project.

As a member of the Boy Scouts of America in Troop 181 I have established myself as a young leader and well rounded individual. I have been a part of countless service projects with my fellow Scouts since I was in first grade. Sticking with Scouting has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I climbed through the ranks and attained my Eagle Scout award when I was sixteen. The Eagle Scout service project I completed along side the multiple other volunteering excursions I have been a part of have taught me several core values that will cling tightly to me from here on. Boy Scouts of America: I have been involved with the scouting program since I was six years old, and continue to be actively involved. I currently working to the rank of Eagle Scout. I am currently the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) of my troop, which includes running the weekly meetings, sending and creating the weekly agenda, updating our Troop website, and help plan Troop outings. On average I spend roughly 5 hours a week with doing activities that are involved with Boy Scouts.

When I was seven years old, I remember seeing boys from the school 's Cub Scouts program walking through the hallway. Dawned in dark blue uniforms, with orange neckties, and many colorful badges, these scouts stunned me by the unity and patriotic spirit that they showed. That evening, I went home from school and ran to the kitchen table where my father was sitting. I explained to him that I wanted to join scouting. He smiled at me and quickly took me to the local Boy Scouts headquarters, where I was signed up for a "pack" as it was called.

Scouting helps kids stay out of trouble and on the right path in life by providing youth with an opportunity to try new things, provide service to others, build self-confidence, and reinforce ethical standards through following the Scout Oath and Law.

One would be un-American if they believe in not allowing homosexuals to join the Boy Scouts of America. Effectively on 1 January 2014 ends a one hundred year old ban on allowing openly homosexuals to join the Boy Scouts of America, which is causing a lot of ruckus within the Boy Scout community. That being the case, some of the older generation Boy Scouts are resigning from the scouts and others are accepting the newer generation with open arms. Since, society is changing and accepting the homosexual race, so should the Boy Scouts of America, basing it on the separation of church and state, it’s racist and equal rights.

When my grandfather earned his Eagle Scout Rank in 1933, he unknowingly began what would become a family tradition that has helped mold my personal perspective today. He ignited a passion for Boy Scouts within my family, which continued through my father, and was fulfilled by me when I earned the Rank of Eagle in 2014. Scouting formed me into the person I am today more so than any other activity I have ever been involved with, reinforcing my family’s emphasis on leadership, service, and work ethic.

A valuable failure does not come with expectations. Nor does it come with pride or achievement. I myself witnessed my valuable failure in Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts requires a set of requirements and ‘reviews’ in order to climb the ranks. My valuable failure lay upon my Star rank.

The Boy Scouts of America and the Girls Scouts of the USA are both nonprofit organizations that can be the most wonderful experiences in one’s life. Being a Boy Scout or Girl Scout can help the youth develop maturity and character, as they grow with age and enter adulthood. Through the process of volunteering and showing leadership skills, Boy Scouts of America and Girls Scouts of the USA are both life-changing organizations. One involved in any of the two organizations will create unity throughout their community and uphold a legacy.
