Boy in the Striped Pajamas. January 30, 1933 the Holocaust started, and went on for 12 years. This was a very bad time for people that were different. Bruno was a young boy who knew nothing about the Holocaust, and he moved near a camp. Bruno had made an forbidden friendship that will lead into a disaster. Sense Bruno didn’t know anything about the Holocaust he started to talk to a Jew named Schmuel. It was very naive that Bruno knew nothing about the Holocaust. Because of this Bruno became friends with Shmuel, and went into the camp. If Bruno knew then he could of tried to stop the Holocaust. First of all, it was bad for Bruno not to know about the Holocaust, because if he knew about the Holocaust then it would have saved his life.
Bruno’s father is a highly respected SS officer, meaning that even though he is living with somebody who is advocating for the Holocaust and Hitler, he still doesn’t understand the war. His innocence really shows when he talks about the people that work for him, he thinks that they are just normal people that wear odd clothing, he doesn’t understand that they aren’t getting paid, and will get punished for talking to him. So he believes that it is okay, he also says stuff that have a different meaning then he thinks. “Heil, Hitler.” (5.288) This quote is when Bruno is talking to his father and they end the conversation with this saying. Though it was common saying and Bruno spoke german, he admitted that he thought it was just another goodbye or have a pleasant afternoon. Bruno doesn’t
This is different than the movie, where Bruno was told earlier on by his sister and Shmuel that the people in the camps were Jews. Then he kept asking until he found out that they were “evil” and cannot be trusted. He then had to decide whether or not he should stay friends with Shmuel. Although he did not fully understand it in the book or the movie, he had more of an internal conflict in the movie, as he wasn’t sure if Shmuel could be trusted based on what his sister told him and what he learned from his history
Bruno was the son of a Nazi commandant, but he had no idea of the horrors of the Holocaust. He was told not to go near the death camp his father was in charge of, but he did anyway. Bruno meet a Jewish boy named Shmuel at the camp and continued to visit him. They enjoyed each other’s company even though there was a fence in between them. One day Shmuel told Bruno that his dad went missing. Neither of the boys knew that he was actually murdered. They came up with a plan to sneak Bruno into the camp to help Shmuel find his dad. After Bruno gets into the camp they begin to search when alarms go off. The boys and other Jewish men get pushed into a room and ordered to take their clothes off. No one knows what’s going on. They are ordered into another room where they are gassed and die. Because of hate and intolerance against Jews, Shmuel was blocked off from the rest of the world and his friend. Bruno fought against that hate and intolerance by sneaking into a place where no one should be, to help a
Bruno had no idea what was going on in Germany with the discrimination of Jews and people inferior to Germans. His mother and grandmother did not agree with them killing off the Jews and his mother fought his father who was in the army trying to reason him about how bad what they are doing is. Bruno’s grandmother would not even come visit them because where they moved to and the reason for it, she told him how much of a disgrace he was for doing the things he is to the poor jewish community who never did anything wrong.
What he would do to Pavel? ( Jews were not supposed to touch or help Germans in world War II another example is while Lieutenant Kotler was walking in the kitchen, Shmuel and Bruno were talking while Shmuel were cleaning the glasses just as he was eating he shouted ‘where did you that from’ he shouted. Then Shmuel answered ‘he gave it to me’ Bruno answered ‘I have never seen him before or spoken to him’ (pg.171 2007). why do you think Bruno lied? He lied because he was scared that he would get beaten up by lieutenant Kotler. So he lied and gave the blame to Shmuel. (Bruno has fear he would get beaten up just like Pavel got beaten up by Kotler. Bruno is terrorise by lieutenant Kotler) this example highlights Bruno has fear and he terrorise by Kotler this shows Prejudice and
The Jews were sent to camps and many were killed in many different ways like being gassed, shot, working to death, baked to death, and starved to death. All of this led to ignorance by the Nazis. The boy in the striped pajamas, whose main character's name is Bruno. Bruno was mostly hurt by ignorance because of the lack of information that was given to him by his family. Ignorance was a lack of knowledge that Bruno was given to him “It’s a very important job," said Mother, hesitating for a moment.
When it comes to the subject of history, doesn’t it make more sense to learn what really happened rather than from a fable? History can be taught in various ways, one is through historical facts. As harsh as these facts are to learn from at times, such as the brutality of the Holocaust, they are a better way to grasp the realities of the past. Teaching history through fiction is an ineffective way to teach students because it is misleading and gives a distorted view.
One day Bruno went out and ventured to the fence and met a boy named Schmuel and they talked almost everyday. One day, Bruno ducked under the fence to play with Schmuel. They ended up being taken to the gas chamber and killed with lots of other people (Boyne 213). During the Holocaust, the Jews were controlled by the evil nazi’s. They suffered from discrimination and inhumane treatment, and they still found a way to stay together, and persevere through.
During the movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, many scenes displayed Bruno’s helplessness and inability to help neither the Jews, nor himself in the end. For instance, Lieutenant Kurt revealed to Bruno’s mother about the concentration camps without the knowledge of Bruno’s father. This enraged him so he sought for his revenge by putting Lieutenant Kurt on the spot with the topic of his father, who was said to have left the country in opposition to the German ways. Lieutenant Kurt then released all his anger and frustration on Pavel, a kind Jew who tended to Bruno’s injury after falling off his swing in the beginning of the movie, right in front of Bruno’s eyes. Later, the clueless Bruno found out that he was beaten to death when his sister said that Pavel will never be coming back. Then, there was another scene where Shmuel, Bruno’s new Jewish friend who was also eight years old, was temporarily called out from the concentration camp because they Germans needed a pair of small hands to dry and polish all the glassware at Bruno’s house. Knowing how Shmuel is always hungry, Bruno gave him a few cookies. Right after, Lieutenant Kurt came into the room and found Shmuel eating so he automatically assumed that he stole
Bruno thought that a concentration camp was a place where everyone inside was friends with each other. Instead, the concentration camp was a really dark place, the people inside would sit on the dirt and stare at the sky. Meanwhile, Shumeal knew all along what concentration camp was
Bruno thinks of his own world problems. He doesn’t know that Jews were being brutally murdered and neither do the people reading the book if their a kid. The book doesn’t show what Bruno’s father was doing to the people in “Striped Pajamas”. Some things in the book can show some good representations of the holocaust. One
In The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, it was good that Bruno was naive about the Holocaust throughout the novel because it allowed him to develop a friendship with Shmuel, and Bruno would have had mixed feelings about father.
Throughout the novel it is apparent just how innocent and naïve Bruno is to the whole situation. As a 9 year-old-boy Bruno has little, if any realisation of his father’s position and the fact that Out-with (Auschwitz) is not a punishment but a promotion. Boyne’s character Bruno truly believes ‘heil Hitler’ to be just another way of saying “well, goodbye for now and have a pleasant afternoon” (pg.:- 54).
You are an eight-year-old boy forced to move with your family from your home in Berlin to the countryside because your father received a promotion as the head Nazi officer at a work camp. Without any friends, you sneak away during the day to explore the land behind your house and find what you understand to be a “farm.” It turns out to be a work camp where you meet another boy your age. You quickly become friends with the boy named Shmuel, who is forced to live in the work camp because he is Jewish. You do not understand the hatred towards the Jews during this time, and because of this, an unlikely friendship forms. Shmuel’s father disappears and you offer to come into the camp to help look for him. When searching in the barracks, things
Bruno not knowing about the camp being a Jewish concentration camp was one of the reasons he went into the camp in the first place. If Bruno had known about Out-With and the real identity of it then he would never have explored to find the dot that became a speck that became a blob that became a figure that became a boy. Since Bruno didn’t know about Out-with and the holocaust he went to explore and find the dot, and that dot became his best friend for a short life. The innocent dot that Bruno found ended up being the tragedy that caused his death. Bruno’s naivety lead him into Out-With along side his best friend for life, Shmuel. Bruno and Shmuel had never played together and Bruno was leaving back home for Berlin that day, the best friends for a short life wanted something to remember about each other. “‘I’d like to have seen it’ He added’. . .’Well?’ said Shmuel. ‘Why don’t you then?’. . .’it would be a great adventure. Our final adventure. I could do some exploring at last’” (Boyne 197-198). Bruno’s best friend for life lead him to the end of both of their lives. Bruno was naive about many things, but nothing more than the situation he had to make the best of and live
