In the novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, the author highlights the main characters point of view to convey the theme that children who are sheltered from bad happening around them have a different, more positive, view of the world. Set during WWII, the story tells of a young boy named Bruno who meets another young boy, called Shmuel, and they form an incredible friendship. At the beginning of the book Bruno and his family are forced to move to Auschwitz. Bruno is very curious about many things, so it is only natural that when he sees the people in the striped pajamas behind a fence out of his window, he decides to check it out. That is when he meets Shmuel, a young Jew.
When Bruno first looks out of his window he sees some curious looking people. He decides to ask his sister about the people. “It must be some kind of rehearsal,’suggested Gretel, ignoring the fact that some of the children, even some of the older ones even as old as her, looked as if they were

That day it is very rainy and Bruno is relieved when all the Jews and Bruno go into a very secure metal room, but he is surprised when a loud ring sounds. “Bruno raised an eyebrow, unable to understand the sense to all this, but he assumed that it had something to do with keeping the rain out and stopping people from catching colds.” (Boyne 213)Bruno didn’t know they were entering a gas chamber. He thought that when they were entering the gas chamber to be gassed to death, he thought that they were going into a waiting room to wait for the rain to stop, so the people wouldn't catch colds. The poem is from the wife’s perspective, and we see her emotions throughout the poem, and how she is helpless and powerless against the economy that forces her and her family to constantly move. There are many themes in the poem which relate to The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas such as the uncertainty in life, and how there are no concrete plans for the future, and how things can change so quickly. For some of the family in the poem, it is far from what they want, which we see through the Mother and older sister, who are both reluctant to move, and wish to lead a normal life. Unlike these two family members, the younger sister, who has yet to discover the darker and more sinister parts of the world, is always looking for a new adventure, and feels the power that most young people have. She is constantly ready for something new, and is ready to overcome every problem that stands in her way. This is a lot like Bruno, who is an adventurous little boy, who doesn’t yet understand sadness, and lives life as if it were a
The book “Night” is a story about a young man named Elie and his story about the holocausts. He had an awful experience trying to make it through all of that. He was fourteen years old; I couldn’t imagine the pain and the things he went through. The Boy in the striped pajamas is a different story of the holocaust. How Bruno viewed has experience with the holocaust is that he didn’t really know what was going on during this time.
At one point, Bruno and his sister found lice in their hair and Bruno had to get his head shaven. Bruno and Shmuel found that they looked similar with their shaven heads. Eventually, Bruno was supposed to move back to Berlin with his mother and sister. It had been a year since he had met Shmuel and he was anxious to say goodbye. During this time, Shmuel’s father was missing and Shmuel wanted the help of Bruno to find him. Bruno told Shmuel that he was going back to Berlin and promised that he would help Shmuel look for his father before he left. The next day, Shmuel brought Bruno striped pajamas and Bruno slipped under the fence to join him. They looked for Shmuel’s father for hours and Bruno decided he was ready to go home. However, the soldiers ordered everyone into lines and sent them to the gas chambers. Bruno and Shmuel were unaware that they were headed toward their deaths, and in a matter of moments, they were
Bruno and Shmuel were able to portray the true meaning of friendship. The Boy in Striped Pajamas historically showed us the emotional side of the events that took place during the Holocaust. Even though friends and families were being physically separated, the movie gave the audience the insight of the true emotions felt during the World War II time

It tells the story of a young German boy (Bruno), and a Jewish boy (Shmuel)’s “forbidden” friendship. Bruno, located on the opposite side of a huge barbed-wire fence that guards the concentration camp where Shmuel is confined, has never had a friend he can’t play with. Throughout the novel, their friendship grows and both boys learn very important lessons. When the novel was made into a film, a few things were changed, some were
One day, Bruno is looking out the window and asks his mother if he could “play with the children on the farm.” This is where the audience learns Bruno’s Harmartia, or tragic flaw, of his age. Children at Bruno’s age are innocent, kind, curious, and are often hidden from the evils of the world. Unknowingly, he moves close to a concentration camp, but due to his innocence, he believes the prison is a farm. He describes the “farmers” as looking “strange”

In the novel, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, the historical setting of Nazi Germany is of key importance. Although the novel is fictional having it set during a time period of such significance, such as Germany under the Nazi regime, gives a sense of reality to the book. This is important as this connects readers to the plot line as they understand the setting. This setting is interesting as it was a terrible point of history, filled with hatred, fear and bigotry. In this essay, I will be discussing the main points of the historical setting and the reasons this fits well with the book and how this historical setting came about. This historical setting had key relevance and was essential for the book.
Bruno, initially, has ignorance about everything going on in his life. For example, his dissatisfaction with leaving Berlin is demonstrated in many parts of the story. He is shown to the reader as being innocent, immature, and unable to give things a chance. On many occasions, Bruno complains about moving to “Out-With” (Auschwitz). He continually complains before even giving himself a chance to experience it. He was whining and being stubborn. To illustrate, in the novel, the author says, “Nothing, thought Bruno, not even the insects, would ever choose to stay at Out-With.
The next day where its raining and extremely muddy Bruno went to meetup with Shmuel at the fence to go on the search for Shmuel’s father . Finally Bruno was on the opposite side of the fence , as he was sneaking around trying to blend in with other people he never saw nothing like that seeing everyone looking miserable and skinny.
