My book Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie, was writing by Kristina Gregory. I choose this book, because I thought it would be cool to read about a girl traveling the Oregon Trail back in 1847. The historic event in my book is traveling he Oregon Trail. The Oregon Trail is more than 2,000 miles long (2). The trail goes through ID, KS, MO, NE, OR, WA and WY (2). Many travelers and animals died trying to go where ever they were going. If you were to travel from Fort Astoria to St. Louis, back in 1810, it would take 10 months to complete (2). Most were drawn West, because of all the cheap land. My book is about a girl named Hattie Campbell. Hattie, and her family were going to Oregon, to get land. Her aunt gave her a diary which she records
How is Mirabella changing to be more human? In the book St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, the author Karen Russell writes a book on three girls and how they have to change to be more civilized. Russell does this by writing about their whole journey in stages. In this book, it shows how one character named Mirabella is resentful of change. To start, Mirabella shows different ways of resisting by being elusive and retaliating during stages 1 and 2 of the text.
I chose the book A Long walk to water for my literary pumpkin. I chose A long walk to water because it is a nonfiction book ,about Salva and Nya. The girl Nya is fetching water from a pond that is two hours' walk from her home, she makes two trips to the pond every day but then at the end of the book she gets good clean water. The boy Salva becomes one of the "lost boys" of Sudan, refugees who cover the African continent on foot as they search for their families and for a safe place to stay. Then one day he goes to America and gets a family and then a couple weeks or months later he gets an email from his cousin and its about his father, then Salva sees his father and gets to hear things about his family and father.
The Oregon Trail, was a pathway that led thousands of Americans in the east, through the continent to find more opportunity somewhere else. It was a long adventure, being 2,170 miles, add or take a little because people found shortcuts over the years. It was a dangerous journey, reaching from Independence, Missouri to Willamette Valley in Oregon, but it was also full of rivers, harsh deserts, and rough climate. Also, new diseases and wagon accidents ravaged the brave souls, around 400,000, making a successful trip across the continent, really something to be proud of. Over decades of wagons carving the ground, from soil to hard stone, it has left markings of wagon wheels across the lands that it crosses such as Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon, where the trail splits up north and south to Washington to California.
Have you ever wondered about how people lived in the late 1800s in America? Historians aren’t the only ones who can teach you about those times. Laura Ingalls Wilder lived in those days and experienced all of the joys, pain and hardship of living the pioneer life. She decided to write about her experiences later in life, and those writings became famous for providing a window into what life was like then. This paper will detail the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder and her contributions to literature and recording american history as the writer of the Little House book series.
My book is Compass South by Hope Larson, illustrated by Rebecca Mock. It has 224 pages.
Everyone has a support system that gives them courage when they need it. This system can be friends, but is often a parent either birth or adoptive. Children just have a special bond between them and their parents and why would they not, they are around with every twist, turn and roadblock that gets in the way. This is not just because they have known their children their whole life or part of it is because they teach their children the skills that they have learned so in the future they have the tools they need to succeed and push past the roadblocks. This is a common occurrence in the book Cheyenne by Lisa Wiedmeier where a girl named Cheyenne loses her adoptive parents in a car crash that appeared to be accidental. After the death of
My book is called “Courage Has No Color,” by Tanya Lee Stone. The time period was around 1940’s.

The book I chose to write about is O’ Pioneer’s By: Willa Carter. In this book, the main character Alexandra Bergson, sacrifices many things to achieve her goals.
One of them are the Twin towers. Terrorists crashed airplane on the Twin towers of the World Trade Center. What might surprise you is that the people who crashed the plane did it on purpose. Thousands of people were killed in this harsh attack. Another historical event is when New York became a state. On July 26 1778, New York became 11th U.S. state. New York city was then the nation’s capital from 1785 until 1790. Lastly, another historical event to not forget is Ellis Island. The island opened for the reason of the government to take care of the immigration and make sure immigrants did not bring diseases and make sure that immigrants could support themselves in America. The first immigrant to arrive was 15 year old Annie Moore with her 2 brothers. She had come to reunite with her parents already there. On the island there were medical tests and then be interviewed. If you passed those 2 requirements you would be able to
I chose the book Tale of Despereaux. The reason why is quite simple. I love this book and I always have. This book, I feel like, has always understood, that is if books could understand, and I have always had a deep connection with it and its characters. I have read this book several hundred times and it will never ever get old to me. I could read it when I’m fifty. This was my favorite book back in the day, and now because of this assignment, I get to read it once more! I will never and can never forget this book.
I chose “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” by Mark Twain because I’d never read this story before. Given how important Mark Twain has been in American literature, it seemed appropriate that I learned more about his works.
Chapter 21 consisted of many challenging and rewarding events. Including the Lewis and Clark expedition, the Napoleonic wars, Native resistance, the War of 1812 and the Battle of New Orleans. In the Early 1800s, many people moved west, with the risk of Native attacks, but there was lots of land. With the movement West there needs to be more transportation routes. The commoners felt that the transportation routes were only going to benefit and profit the elites. After that came the Lewis and Clark expedition. Their main goals were to find the Northwest passage as well as map out the land. Once they got over to the land they came across natives ,which protected them and showed them new routes. Eventually European disease wiped out the native
My book is called Crystal Magic from the Clearwater Witches series by Madeline Freeman. It is a young adult novel targeted towards teens about a girl named Krissa Barnette. In the book Krissa has recently moved to Clearwater Ohio after the death of her mother and her near suspension from her former school. Krissa has always been in someway different, though she never knew why. Weird things would always happen around her, like objects falling down or things shaking when her emotions were running high. When she moves to Clearwater she stays with her aunt Jodi who runs a medicinal shop and she starts to attend Clearwater High.
I chose The Danger of a Single Story by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It’s easy how people, places, and things are perceived as something they are not only because of a single story. One story is sometimes all it takes to either destroy something or create something great. It’s truth that people only look at one side of the story, even I am guilty of that crime. Ms. Adichie story inspired me to look beyond a single story because there is always another side. What you hear is not always the truth. Do not always take what you hear and run with it without exploring. If we reject a single story we will have a different outlook on things.
