A Child Called It In the book A Child Called It David Pelzer relives the child abuse he once experienced as a kid. David was born on December 29, 1960 in Daly City,CA. He got abused by his alcoholic mother. David felt his father was his protector so when his parents got divorced that was a big problem. Soon after they started fighting he felt like everything was his fault. As a young child, David had a loving family, his Mommy, his father and his two brothers. By the time he was seven, he was being starved and abused by his mother. In his life, David had to face many challenges. One of which is having to play his mother’s “games” that left him half dead. He would also get punished for being a “bad boy” when he never did anything. Later, he had enough courage to tell someone, his 4th grade teachers at Thomas Edison Elementary School. …show more content…

We also learn to just keep using prayer and someone will save us. I believe that David Pelzer is important because he stood up for himself. He had told someone about the “family secret” that no one knew for so many years. By doing that he was very brave he took a great risk. His mother could have beaten him for telling everyone. Then, the police took him somewhere safe to live where his mother would never hurt him. The part of David Pelzer’s life that I admire most is when he told someone about the “family secret”. Even after four years of being brainwashed, by doing that he showed a lot of responsibility . After that everyone seemed to care about him. David’s mother always claimed that she never loved him and that he was no longer a boy but an it. David was discarded from “The Family” at a very young age.
