There are many different symbols that you may not see in your everyday life. A symbol is an object that represents an idea. In the first part last, there are symbols almost everywhere in the book. Three symbols are feathers name, the red balloon Nia gave Bobby, and lastly, Bobby's basketball. In this story, Bobby did come of age and these symbols show how.

A symbol is an object that represents an idea. One symbol throughout the book is the red balloon. This is a symbol because it shows that Bobby and Nia are coming of age because the color red usually represents love and anger. Coming of age means to grow up or mature in your life. Bobby and Nia had to mature since Nia is pregnant. On page 6, Bobby said, "Then she handed me the balloon." This is important because it shows how Nia broke the news that she was pregnant to Bobby.

One symbol would be when Bobby forgot Feather to go play basketball. The symbol here is the basketball. When he got home, Bobby set the basketball down and it rolled into his mothers room. One important symbol is how the title plays a part in the first chapter. Bobby says on page 4, "But I figure if the world were really right, humans would live the first part last. They'd be all knowing in the beginning in the end." This excerpt means that it would make more sense if humans were born into this world guilty and knowing everything and left the world innocent and with someone at their side. A baby, for example, is born not knowing anything. They always have someone by their side and catering to their needs. However, as you exit the world, you have no one by your side and you die knowing that you were always guilty for something. This is a symbol because it shows how Bobby wants the world to work.
