“It’s close to midnight, and the eerie silence fills the air, a haunting feeling of odd desperation surrounds the element of time.” The others look on fascinated by the accurate account of their evening.
“The imperfections and doubt filled disappointments we must filter out before our crossover. To the moon, I say,” the group instantly looks at the refulgent glow of the full moon. “Through tear filled eyes I speak perplexed in thought.
“I pray humbled in the heart. I hope, anticipating in mind.
“To the moon, I say, with its invigorating life-force.” Unknown to Victor his poem is setting the stage for a traumatic event, one that will change everything. “To the moon, I say.” Suddenly a strange feeling comes over Victor, and he constantly …show more content…

Sliding back down in the seat, he holds the wheel raising his beer in triumph he proclaims his moral victory. “Not on your life.

Deep into the Path.

The group stands in a circle listening, but there is no repeated sound, no additional noise, not even the hoot of an owl. Relaxed for a while some of them want to go on, while others know they should go back, yet once again they are undecided.
“Listen, you can hear it again.” The shy Victor notes. Sheila is sure that she also heard it, somewhere up ahead she thinks.
“It’s probably just the wind,” Jacques suggests keeping everyone calm. Therefore, his plan will work.
“No big deal.” He adds, convinced someone might be turning the tables on him. Victor, however, is not buying it and points out the inconsistency.
“There’s no breeze blowing,” he brings to their attention.
Jacques avoids the statement when Gretchen asks with her valley girl mentality.
“What is that noise anyway? It sounds like” but before she can finish her statement Sheila lets out a loud scream startling the others.

“Maybe it was our imagination, maybe it’s a fox or a frog or even a squirrel, but you really want us to go on?
“Are you crazy?”
Jacques assures her. “There's strength in numbers, and there’s six of us, and Bubbas so tough, he could whip a man,” Jacques wisely directs the attention toward Bubba who is puffing up his chest with pride. “Right Bubba?” he adds.
Bubba expanding his chest with every complimentary word Jacques has attributed to him. “That’s right,” Bubba confirms. However, not everyone is buying the superhero bull. Certainly not Shelia, who pleads with Jacques to turn back, not because she is scared, but because she is convinced, something is following them, with that remark, another opportunity presents itself for Bubba; he sneaks up behind Sheila secretly grabbing her by the waste.
“Say, Sheila, why you don’t stick close to Bubba,” he romantically suggests,
“You know, just in case someone leaps from the shadows.”
She jumps away in a panic, disgusted by his prank.
“Drop dead.” She says wanting only to turn back and escapee the most uncomfortable feeling that has bothered her since they first stepped on the
