He was an all-star baseball player, and an all-star football player. Ironically, according to him, “football was only a hobby”. Bo had a fairly troublesome childhood, a great sports career that ended in a horrible injury, and a short acting career, and is now having a great life after sports. Now I have a question for you, who is the greatest athlete of all time? Could it have been Bo if he was not injured so early in his career? Vincent Edward “Bo” Jackson was born November 30, 1962 in a small town just outside of Birmingham called Bessemer, Alabama. Jackson was the eighth out of ten of Florence Jackson Bond’s children. Bo’s father A.D. Adams was never wed to Florence, and in fact he had his own family that lived on the other side of town, so Bo never really had a father figure in his childhood. The name Vincent went away very quickly when Bo became the neighborhood trouble maker and at …show more content…
Myths like he jumped over a 12-foot ditch or he dunked a stick in the 8th grade.(sports.jrank) Once Bo realized he had a natural talent for sports he really embraced, and started to use his ability to try and make a better life for his mother. Bo Jackson was incredibly talented for his age and excelled in baseball, football, and track as well. Before entering high school, the neighborhood track coach, Dick Atchinson, asked Jackson if he would join their team, Bo said yes and would end up being the greatest athlete to ever come through McAdory high school. Atchinson would become Jackson's mentor at McArdory High School (sic), serving as his coach in both track and football, Atchinson would later become Bo’s his guidance counselor. Atchinson was the father figure Bo had lacked as a boy

He was an all-star. His batting average for his career with the Kansas City Royals wasn’t all that outstanding but still a very solid .243(Bo Jackson Statistics and History | Baseball-Reference.com). Meanwhile Bo’s on base percentage was very solid as well standing at .304(Bo Jackson Statistics and History | Baseball-Reference.com). These statistics obviously don’t mean everything awards and tittle determine a lot about a

When black people in sports are mentioned, the first person that comes to many minds is Jackie Robinson. As discussed before, he lived in poverty and filled with discrimination. (Eig p. 8) Being the first black player in Major League Baseball was extremely difficult, but he persevered and became more than a black baseball player- he was just a baseball player, and one of the best of his time. After Robinson, many more black superstars followed suit. About four decades later, Bo Jackson first took the field. He was the greatest two-sport athlete of all time, being an All-Star in baseball and a Pro Bowler in football. If not for an unfortunate injury, he likely would have made the Hall of Fame for both. Even today, black players are among the best in the world, such as basketball star LeBron James. In short, sports have provided an opportunity for blacks to have great

I myself played two sports in high school and trying to balance that out with school was a tough enough task in itself. Now imagine having to manage two professional jobs at the same time, well that’s the life Bo Jackson lived, my favorite professional athlete and arguably the best athlete of all time. Vincent ‘Bo’ Jackson was born on November 30, 1962 in Bessemer, Alabama. He earned the nickname “Bo” early as a child because he was a very rough and competitive kid and his brother shortened the word “boar” into
So in the 1987 draft the raiders chose him with their seventh round pick. The owner of the raiders seemed to take a liking in Jackson's baseball career so he offered him a contract that would allow him to pursue baseball but also have to work part-time in football after each MLB season. During the 1990 NFL season he rushed for 698 yards in 10 games and earned himself a Pro Bowl selection. But an injury also came with all of those accomplishments as he suffered a hip injury that the treatment couldn’t help. That spring the Royals released him and he was later acquired the the White Sox. He was able to play 23 games before his hip had deteriorated so much that he had to have it replaced.
