The bite of an infectious blackfly is responsible for spreading Onchocerca volvulus. Microscopic worm larvae known as microfilariae in the skin of infected person pave an entry and infect the blackfly. After 2 weeks developing of the larvae to a certain stage that is infectious to humans occurs in the
The goldenrod gall fly (or Eurosta solidaginis) is a parasite whose life depends upon and revolves around the goldenrod plant. After mating, the female gall fly uses its ovipositor (structure used to inject eggs into a plant) to insert its eggs into the stem of a goldenrod plant. After about ten days, the fly larvae hatch and begin to eat the inside of the plant. The saliva of the larva contains a chemical that causes the plant to swell, creating what is known as a gall; this serves as a food source and a protective shell for the growing larva. When fall approaches, the larva digs an escape tunnel by which it will later exit the gall as an adult; however, the larva does not complete the tunnel, instead it leaves a thin membrane of plant material for protection (Abrahamson & Heinrich, n.d.). E. solidaginis larvae then pupate in late winter or early spring, and leave the gall as adults soon afterwards (Abrahamson, Sattler, McCrea, & Weis, 1989). Once freed from the gall,
California grizzlies had been around earth for centuries before humans invaded their territory. In the state of California, “some [California grizzlies] grew to a formidable height of 8 feet and weighed 2,000 pounds, according to a history of California written in 1898”, which made them targets for the various resources they could provide naturally (Staff). When miners came to California to harvest the gold, they began to see the grizzlies as a threat. In “less than 75 years after the discovery of gold… every grizzly in California had been tracked down and killed” making it extinct shortly after (Staff). Grizzlies in California were hunted and killed because they were seen as dangerous and hunters would harvest them for their resource of warm
The Boll Weevil is a beetle. A drought is when an area has no rainfall for a long period of time. The Boll Weevil feeds on flowers and lay eggs in the flower buds of cotton. The Boll Weevil came from Mexico to Georgia to destroy the cotton plantation in the 1890s. A Drought came in Georgia and caused destruction on the crops also. Since the crops and cotton were destroyed, farmers could not pay people to pick them. So, many people lost jobs, and banks that loaned money to farms took huge L’s. Also, most working farms fell. The Boll Weevil and the Drought destroyed Georgia’s farms and its crops, including cotton. Since the cotton was gone, the Boll Weevil
Have you been exposed to bed bugs, and now worried about them getting into your home? If so, you’ll need to take precaution to make sure that they do not infest the rest of your home. Thankfully, there are some easy steps to follow to ensure that those bed bugs are dead.
The speaker in the character sketch of Jonathan Edwards details his life, his philosophy and his significance to the puritan religion. Jonathan Edwards will forever go down in history for being one of best philosophy and pastor. Jonathan Edwards has many other nicknames, for example, he would also be known as theologian. “Theologian” means that he engages in a lot of theology and is an expert in theology. One of Jonathan Edwards finest arts that he work he entitled it,” Of Insects.” He began to write this small treatise at just age eleven.
Bed bugs are small wingless insects. Bedbugs have flat bodies and are reddish-brown in color. They have been described as having a similar appearance to pumpkin seeds??????
The Venus Flytrap is one of the most well known carnivorous plants out there. Although it is well known, there are many things people may not know about them. For example, people may know the basic description of the plant, but will not know about Its habitat, diet, and pollinators. Many may not know that there are also conservation challenges the venus flytrap is facing. The venus flytrap is native to North and South Carolina. The venus flytrap likes wet areas to grow. Their diet don’t consist of only flies even though it’s in their name, although they do manage not to eat their pollinators.
Deer flies (Chrysops discalis) are one of the rare types of flies that transmit the disease known as “Rabbit Fever”. It is a bacterial disease that can be acquired from contact with objects or infected animals from bites of ticks. These flies are medium sized approximately one-fourth inch long and are mostly seen in spring. They are typically yellow-brown to black with dark bands on their wings. Some of them have iridescent green eyes.
Based on the decline of the Karner blue across its historic range, it was listed as endangered in 1992. Since listing, two populations have been extirpated and are being reintroduced to Concord, New Hampshire, and West Gary, Indiana. A third population is being reintroduced to Ohio. The threat of the Karner blue butterfly extinction exists primarily from the loss of critical habitat caused by landscape fragmentation, natural succession and concomitant suppression of the natural disturbance regime (Smallidge 1996; Clough 1992).
Black dirt is an important part of healthy growing environment. Erosion and loss of black dirt has been a problem in the past, but technology and government regulation has improved the problem. My prediction is that black dirt conservation will be even better in the future.
RESEARCH PAPER: CATERPILLAR Abstract The topic of my research was the global management expertise and effectiveness of the company Caterpillar Inc., a global leader in the production and manufacturing of construction and mining equipment. I researched the company's website for core information and sought information outside the company for its global perspective. What I found
Black fly is the best known medically important insect, which belongs to a genus of Simulium, family of Simuliidae and the order of Diptera. Many species of female black flies are blood-sucking habit and they transmit the parasitic nematode Onchocerca volvulus, the causative organism of human onchocerciasis (river blindness) (Anbalagan et al., 2014a). It is commonly found in tropical Africa, Central America, South America and Yemen, where 30 million people are infected. Moreover, female blackfly bites may become itchy and swollen in human body for a number of days. In sensitized individuals reaction to black fly saliva injected at the feeding site may cause a syndrome known as “black fly fever” that consists of headaches, fever, nausea, and/or inflammation of nymph nodes (Harwood and James, 1979).
There are many writers in this world, and each has their own personal style. William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, and Mark Twain all had various ways that they used to come up with amazing stories or plays. Jacey Choy, the author of “Red Cranes” and Jun’ichiro Tanizaki, the author of “The Firefly Hunt” also use methods that differ, specifically with their characters Mie and Sachiko. The authors develop the characters differently by their interactions with the other characters, the presentation of their thoughts, and the strong feelings they have at the end of each passage.
O. volvulus is transmitted into humans through the bites of black flies, which breed near rivers and streams. These worms enter the body and grow in size, before multiplying, resulting in the residency of hundreds of thousands of larvae (known as microfilariae) in one body, mostly in subcutaneous tissue and the eye (“Parasites - Onchocerciasis (also known as River Blindness)”).
Fireflies are so beautiful. They disappear and magically appear at some distance in the dark giving the illusion of something out of this world.
