Film can have many different interpretations. It can be taken as simple popcorn entertainment that breaks box office records. Or, it can have a powerful moral or message it wants to convey, and have the audience form their own opinions and thoughts. One film that had an impact on me is the film Blackfish. The film gave me opinions on animal cruelty, corporate corruption, and manipulative marketing. All of which are ruining today's society, and had me questioning about what it means to live in a world where these insufferably cruel acts are taken place in a tourist heavy attraction.
As mentioned in the case description, tetrodotoxin is a molecule that blocks voltage-gated sodium ion channels. Describe the structure of a sodium ion.
While films are primarily for entertainment, they often also stand as an excellent medium for spreading awareness about social issues. It is often seen in cinema that a small point or effect actually has a much larger meaning. Historically, directors have used to raise awareness and spread knowledge about social issues.
In the documentary “Blackfish”, the creators use rhetorical strategy to show the audience the cruel treatment of animals in facilities such as Sea World in order to promote release and fair care of animals in captivity. Commonly used in this documentary, pathos, is a strategy in which the author uses words and examples to invoke an emotion in the audience. Scenes of whales being taken from their family pod, or footage of a whale that had been raked by the teeth of another whale are prime examples of this emotional appeal in action. The main animal in this film is a twelve-thousand-pound whale named Tilikum. “Tilly” was taken from the wild about thirty years ago. Since then, he performs many shows, and experiences cruel treatment in almost every
Movies have been used as a medium to convey messages for nearly as long as they have existed. I personally love movies, from films with complex narratives to action thrillers, they all have a place in my heart. One of my favorites to date is “Saving Private Ryan”. The film is a World War II action/drama that not only touches on the inhumanity of war but on the humanity of the soldiers as well. It is the tale of a group of ordinary people risking their lives to ensure that a mother gets to see her only remaining son again. “Saving Private Ryan” shows us the brutal realities of war and the courage of the men who chose to fight in it. It shows us that taking part in a war does not only require courage but moral courage as well, the ability to do what is right. These features are staples of American society and I believe that Steven Spielberg depicted them brilliantly in his renowned motion picture.
Movies are the work of art to me. They have the ability to embody the reality. Also, they can take you from the reality into a world of fantasy. They convey to you the feeling of pleasure with amazement, and the creativity to change the design of writing to an image movable. Movies make the science easier, and you get the information in a fun way, which you will not get it if you read it in a book. They are the real art, and the best thing that have created. One the greatest movies I have ever watched if The Usual Suspects.
I believe that these 3 movies have made some kind of impact on the world culturally. 12 Angry Men showed how the importance of a conversation can literally save lives. When you take time out of your day to have a conversation, it could have a larger impact than you think. Her showed society a realistic future scenario where a human can fall in love with an operating system. As technology continues to advance, the premise of this movie becomes more realistic every day, giving people a lot more options when it comes to intimate relationships. Also, the movie shows people possible technological advances that could possibly become a reality in the near future. WALL-E, in my opinion, had the biggest cultural impact out of these movies. In this film,
Manning and Shackford-Bradley explain that films present multiple perspectives, specifically subjective experiences (38). As each person, is able to take out something different from the film. While Marks talks about films as skin and explains the effect works can have among different audiences (xi). Thus meaning, films have the ability to leave audiences with different marks. Symbolism is also discussed in this unit.
It was definitely an experience, but not all movie’s had an effect on me, for example-2001: A Space Odyssey was too slow and I got irritated to some scenes, I felt like it was just plain boring. During our discussion hours we start with our tutor asking what we liked in a movie and what we didn’t like. Most of the time I’m quiet cause I’m thinking what I liked about a movie, for me to like a movie is simple ‘The Story’ if the story is intriguing then I’m hooked. But when asked what you didn’t like about the movie, I realized people actually say, that one shot ruin the whole movie for a person. As a viewer it doesn’t affect me cause for me one shot doesn’t tell the whole story but as a filmmaker I think it’s vital to know what that respective
Tension. That is what makes or breaks a movie. For a film to create tension, to keep a viewer at the edge of their seat. To reduce them to tears. To highlight a way of life so foreign to them. To find redemption in the most broken of characters. That is the mark of a great film.
According to Hunt, the key reasons to study film are the issues of power and empowerment. Studying film is empowering because the formation of cinema is about identity, such as our self-image, values, beliefs, and world views. When we realize the role media play in defining and shaping our identity, we can begin to more actively take charge of our own identity.
For decades film has shaped the minds of many. Film depicts who we are as a society. Creators and directors use film to share stories and events that have molded our society. If you noticed, a film brings light to the issues and concerns of everyday life. In connection to broadcasting the concerns of the world, film has also been proven to manipulate individual’s personal self- awareness. Self-awareness theory is defined by Duval and Wickland (1972) as self-focused attention that leads people to compare their behavior to internal standards. Film is so important in our society that it can alter a person’s perspectives and narratives.
In my personal opinion the film with the most massages is Matrix. Every shot of the film has something to say. Is all these hidden massages in films means something for us in the real life- of course. We are building a lot of stereotypes based on films.Everything what is around us can be positive or negative for each individual. We can't say that ideology in films is a bad influence, but we can say that even a kid films can hurt the adult. It happened to me once when I was thirteen. In school during January we had to learn a childish poem about bird who was not ready for the winter and had to sleep in the snow for a long time experiencing death. I had a big trouble understanding why do we need to learn such things. For other people it was a good lesson to be ready for everything but I was simply shocked about how people can talk about it and don't feel pity for the bird even if it is nor real. Some people have better imagination than others and it cause such differences in peoples behavior and perception of seeing things around. We can see that we can not say which ideology bad and which one is good because the line between bad and good sometimes very invisible but we can dived it by particular
I have been able to experience what has fascinated, inspired and entertained four generations. Movies have made me travel, not only to different places but also to different time periods. I have learnt that if I want to gain knowledge about history, I should not solely rely on what is written ABOUT the past, but rely on material made IN the past. I have learnt about different cultures by watching films made in different languages (foreign films have also been a cheap
The film Titanic (1997) leading by the famous cinema director James Cameron and whose principal protagonists are Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. This film tells an exciting story of love between two young people from different social classes who will meet each other when they get aboard of this extravagant boat(Cervantes). I think this movie was very successful due to different reasons. Among them I can say that their actors played a fundamental role in the creation of this film. The ostentatious scenery that was used to mount the film and to narrate for us the catastrophe happened with luxury of detail. This film also tells about an exciting and classic love story between two young people from different social classes, which in my opinion was the point that attracted that much public to love this film.
Cinema is a great source of promoting culture, values and norms of the society, it shows how exactly the people of that specific region are and how they live, think and do their activities.
